If you are looking for diversity, Landmark Media has released a wonderful
documentary that profiles the gay and transgender households in America
today. *THIS IS FAMILY* shows several different scenarios and cultures and
how alternative lifestyles have lead to acceptable and happy lives. There
is an elementary, high school and university version of this production.

Hi Maureen

Howz bout

Not in Our Town
http://www.theworkinggroup.org/orderatape.html
Documentary about the people of Billings, Montana who joined together to
stand up for Native American, Afro-American and Jewish neighbors who were
under attack by white supremacists. In response to a series of hate
crimes, the community moved into action.

Across the river
www.films.com
Documentary featuring a series of portraits of urban heroes who are
working to revive a dying neighborhood in Washington, D.C. These six
different inner city development projects include a group of former drug
users and criminals who are reaching out to juvenile offenders and fathers
in prison, two school programs which use mentors and extensive job
internships to achieve a high graduation rate, a public housing project
which is rehabilitating its tenants, a successful effort to attract the
middle class back to an inner city area and an economic program, which has
led to the opening of new businesses, creating new jobs.

Democratic promise: Saul Alinsky and his legacy
Video Project
Legendary organizer Saul Alinsky led the movement to empower
disenfranchised communities through collective action. His life influenced
the struggles for civil rights, the farm workers movement and redefined
the very nature of political protest. This film examines Alinsky's life
and influence through work being done by two contemporary people's
organizations.

Green Dreams.
Video Project
Describes activities of the San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners (SLUG)
as they organize and supervise gardening projects in troubled urban
neighborhoods. Film documents how these gardening projects are offering
real job skills and a sense of accomplishment to low-income youth,
ex-convicts and people recovering from drugs. Looks at a variety of
gardening projects including the Alemany housing project where a former
trash-filled back lot is transformed into a small farm providing organic
vegetables for residents and Hunter's Point where teens turn their lives
around in an after school gardening program.
