Re: Official MacVim Repository?
2015-06-24 10:44 GMT-03:00 RPDooling rpdool...@gmail.com: I am a writer, not a programmer, so I don't know how these things are handled, but I would not want to be a Mac user curious to find and try the latest version of MacVim. Googling on MacVim still steers mainly to Bjorn's repository with no indication (for the unsophisticated anyway) WHERE to download the latest version of the program. Shouldn't there at least be some kind of notice posted there? With a link to a place where a new MacVim user could say, Okay, so where do I download the latest version and how do I install it? I saw the issue now, I've been absent again (I was opening a business), but now I'm back and working to be on track. I'll set up github pages (and pull requests are welcome). There's already a gh-pages branch (it's where github pages live), but no content yet (just the autogenerated one). Re: MacVim maintenance
Since Vim is moving to GitHub [1], I'll update my workflow and publish guides for anyone willing to help join the effort. It's not good to depend on just one person, for instance, this month I worked a lot overtime, so MacVim is several patches behind. If we divide efforts, we can also look into improving the Mac side of MacVim instead of just keeping up with Vim. Let's see if I can get something this weekend (still a little bit tough, lot of things to finish before April). 2013/10/26 Janusz Bossy janusz.bo...@gmail.com Just out of curiosity: why do we need different build for every version of OS X? Newer versions won't work in older Macs and cross-compiling is too much of a hassle because of different python and ruby versions. Re: MacVim snapshot 72 for OS X 10.9
Douglas: will you be able to continue providing builds for 10.7 and 10.8? Yep, I still have access to a 10.8 machine at work and 10.7 at home. I just uploaded a build for 10.8 compiled in a machine with just Xcode and default tools, so no homebrew, no rvm, just system python and ruby, so I hope there's no problem this time. If something goes wrong, please let me know. At home I'll build for 10.7 and post here when it's done. Re: macvim OS X 10.9 Mavericks build
It is the issue of command line tool. need to run `xcode-select --install` manually Yesterday I got stuck with several warnings related to duplicate #define and variable type leading to a non-working MacVim. For now I have just merged the patch in the MacVim repository since MacVim requires OS X 10.4 or later (and hence we can be sure it is OK to include AvailabilityMacros.h ... uh, unless Apple forces the use of Availability.h in the future ... I guess we'll have to deal with it then). This way everybody on OS X 10.9 can at least pull from the MacVim repo and build Vim / MacVim from there. Even on Snow Leopard build there are some glitches here, but nothing that makes MacVim unusable (it's just on resizing). But with Core Renderer enabled it's unusable for Japanese text (Japanese characters are larger, so they pile up, but with CR disabled it does proper spacing). Since I use it for Japanese just once in a while, I left it with CR enabled for day to day programming. As for not being able to enter full screen: I do not have access to a Lion machine to try on. But to rule out problems with Douglas' build, please try running the binary I built for 10.6. On second thought - it does not support Lion-native full screen, so that may be somewhat pointless. Maybe try disabling native full-screen in the prefs and see if that works. I didn't have the fullscreen issue, so I couldn't test that. -- Douglas Drumond -- -- You received this message from the vim_mac maillist. Do not top-post! Volunteer for Snow Leopard snapshot building
Hi, I'm the guy building MacVim for Lion and Snow Leopard (the previous dev lost access to his Snow Leopard machine). But recently I had to upgrade my Lion to Mountain Lion. Now I have one machine with Snow Leopard, but I'll soon upgrade it to Lion, so I won't be able to build for Snow Leopard anymore, just Lion and Mountain Lion (but that one Björn already does). This Lion machine will stay forever on Lion, it's the latest OS it supports, but the Mountain Lion one probably will be upgraded to Maverick. TL;DR: count on me forever (or until my old laptop breaks) for Lion builds, but soon I'll drop support for Snow Leopard. Re: Balloon-eval supported or not?
I don't see anything strange there. Maybe you should try with a prebuild binary from the MacVim Google code site. I used Douglas's snapshot 66 build in the beginning. I tried it today on both Lion and Snow Leopard. But see below. I'll try this at home and see if I get the error. Hello Björn, I still use Lion and I can help with this. -- Douglas Drumond http://about.me/douglasdrumond 2012/9/1 björn bjorn.winck...@gmail.com Hi, I have uploaded a new snapshot of MacVim for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion [1]. Cross-compiling Vim for several OS X versions is very difficult (mostly due to the fact that I build with support for Python, Perl and Ruby interfaces) so I am forced to build only for the platform that I am using myself, which happens to be 10.8. We already have one volunteer who builds snapshots for OS X 10.6. I would now like to ask for help with building snapshots for 10.7. Who is willing to help me with this? Re: Add opposite direction tabbing.
Problem: You can tab in both directions which makes tabbing almost useless. Solution: 1. Right now in vim pushing g t will result in tabbing to the right. Re: Do MacVim (or Vim) developers use MacVim as source editor?
Hi there, Sorry if this is a silly question. I'm just wondering if developers of Vim or MacVim, besides Bram Moolenaar, use Vim as a self-creation tool, for the task of code editing, of course. Or do you use some other editor or IDE? Of course we do. I second that. I work with Android development (I mean customizing Android itself, not just developing apps to run over Android), if I had to set up Eclipse to include all Android code plus apps code I would be doomed. It would be very cumbersome to set up and so slow to run. I can't imagine inputting objectdotwait a long time to code complete. In this way, I'm very glad for vim + cscope. But when I want to develop a test app for Android or anything for iPhone, I use Eclipse or XCode. -- Douglas Drumond -- You received this message from the vim_mac maillist. Do not top-post!
