Re: What OS Should my Macintosh SE run?
I agre with superstar64. System 6.0.7 (or 6.0.8) would be a sweet spot for a Mac SE. Pretty stable and nice snappy performance. System 7.0.1 would work well, but is a bit "laggy" on the SE. -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Re: Let's talk about one of Apple's shortest lived product lines...
I quite liked the Centris 650 back in the day. It was reasonably quick for its time and had (IIRC) 3 x Nubus slot. I used one as a server back in the day - a job that it did very capably (File server + FileMaker Pro). The IIvx was one of those machines that looked great in the pre-sales marketing blurb, but the reality was that it did not live up to expectations. Apple short-changed customers by putting the 32MHz processor on a slow 16MHz bus. -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Re: What OS Should my Macintosh SE run?
I would recommend System 6 or so and maybe System 7, but I wouldn't recommend anything higher than that, seeing as later System 7 versions look more aged on a B screen rather than a colored screen where it actually looks decent. also System 7 is probably pushing the 68000 chip farther than where it's limits should be. -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Re: Trying to get OS 10.5 onto an iBook G4
I did it to a PowerBook G4 using "special tactics" so watch this section from one of my tech video logs to see that. I'll preface this by saying it took a USB drive, an old Intel MacBook, and the PowerBook: https://youtu.be/3NmgfLdyEcw?t=10m59s -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Re: An old iBook, what to do with it?
It might? I've gotten my old iMac DV from 1999 online using a modern Apple laptop, an ethernet cable, and internet sharing. However, since you're using a laptop, 1. make sure you have airport, and 2. make sure you can use the correct security type (WPA I'm pretty sure) for your WIFI network, and you're set. did it with a PowerBook G4 in the past, and still do it. just make sure you have over the early versions of 10.4 (even though you said you're using 10.4.11). -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Re: G3 Beige
A good idea would be to do what I did for the Centris 660av and just look around eBay for a bit. Unfortunately most of the computers being sold are broken or only power tested (PLEASE STOP IT'S ANNOYING), but eventually you'll find a vintage mac that works fully and is compatible with SCSI. -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group. Let's talk about one of Apple's shortest lived product lines...
The Macintosh Centris. I felt like starting a discussion about this, seeing as I recently found a fully working Macintosh Centris 660av from eBay. I actually made this video unboxing it (watch if you want I don't care: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lddp3vMa4hc ), and then I decided to start this discussion. You don't have to have one to talk about this topic, but you should have some basic knowledge at least about the line. Anyways, let's talk about the Macintosh Centris/Quadra 610, 650, 660av, or Macintosh IIvx. -- -- - You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
