Pickle is right:

LC has none not even has holes for one.
LCII does have wiring designed in but no socket. Has to clean out
the square of two rows solder holes (68pin PGA socket for PLCC type)
and pull a socket from old peecee 286 or 386sx motherboard) and
solder it in. Oh right way around of course.

Best LC should be LCIII and LCIII+, simply add PLCC 68882 25 MHz or
33 (this is for LCIII+) even LC475/Q605 swap cpu for real '040
instead of LC040. Reason I say go LCIII, LCIII+, LC475 or Q605, you
can get 20MB or 36MB using 16MB or 32MB FPM 72pin simm 80ns or
faster.

Cheers,

Jason

Nope, sorry Pickle. The first LC with the FPU socket is the LCIII. The LCII
had an MMU, something the LC did not.

IIRC the LC II DOES have the FPU socket, so you'd just need to install one.
The LC is the one that doesn't have the socket. I'd go check downstairs

Re: About Mac Linux (Debian 2.2)

2001-08-13 Thread Etienne Le Sueur

So i take it from the sarcastic remarks that it wont work at all? Because it
is in need of an fpu, which the lc doesn't come with? actually, you can
choose to have an fpu, but most did not come with them.
When did I ever say linux? most of the time you cant express emphasis on
vowel sounds when writing on a computer unless you write phonetically, which
most normal people do not bother to do?
Maybe Linus Torvalds uses a wackass accent from where ever he comes from?

Thanks for your help (lack of :) )

Did you solder in an FPU socket then install an FPU?
Or are you trying to compile it with the FPU
emulation? (In which case you win a prize for
"Best self torture with an old Mac".) ;-) Heck, you
win it just for trying to install Linux on an LC 2.

P.S. Why does everyone say linux with a short i
sound when Linus Torvalds says lee-nucks? It
also goes against common rules of English which says
it should be a long i sound. Nobody calls Unix
oonix. ;) Its you-nicks.

I've got penguin 19, and it boots ok, but the kernel panics, and says VFS:
