Do you really wanna spend $100 to put a 75GB drive in your LC III? As I
said, you probably ought to check it out more carefully with Peter or with
ACARD's web site...

Do you think it would work in my LCIII with OS 7.1? Of course, if
it doesn't work, I can always use it to install a 75gig in my B/W.

Do you have the drives set as master or single?
Some drives have a seperate setting for master with
slave present.

If your external drive box is addressable, change it to something besides 0,
4 is a good one.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had no luck with
these drives. The patched drive setup does not see
the drives. They don't even appear in the listing to
be formated. I've tried to format them using a
Performa 636 (as well as a 6200) that boots from an
external scsi hard drive. The external drive has ID
0. Would that make a difference? Both drives start
to spin up when I boot the system then die out. Is
there anything else I can try?

I didn't say it was economical, only that it could be done. After all,
designing a NuBus IDE card from scratch wouldn't be economical either but
it might be a fun hacking project...

This seems like a pie-in-the-sky idea right now. See this site:

The price prevents me from calling this a viable idea. There's a
lot of good older SCSI drives out there for less than the advertised price.

Black*Fire http://www.blackfire.com.au/ makes an
IDE to SCSI conversion adaptor that plugs directly
onto the back of an IDE device to convert it to SCSI.
Unfortunately it will only fit in a 5.25" bay, even
when used with a 3.5" drive.

hacking Drive Setup to be a universal formatter for ANY drive, not just

Re: Format a PC IDE Drive

2001-07-22 Thread Norbert van Bemmel

Are you putting an IDE drive in a Vintage Mac that is built for SCSI? An
interesting experiment, that's for sure! I was just trying to figure out
the size of the hard disk of a Dell PC I found on the street tonight, but
I had no plans of using it in one of my Vintage Macs.

The FAQ only mentions SCSI hard disks, so I'm afraid this will never work.

Format a PC IDE Drive

2001-07-22 Thread John Kocijanski

Hello. I have a pair of PC IDE drives (a Quantum and
a JST) I would like to format but Drive Setup (1.7.3)
does not see them. Can I Resedit Drive Setup so that
it can see them? If so where can I find that
information? I also tried FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 2.5.3
and it can't see the Quantum and it only sees the JST
as a generic drive. FWB tries to format the JST but it
says it can not because there are no blocks on the
drive. Both drives seem to want to spin up but start
to then stop. Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks.
