About phone clean, CNN, and QVC updates

2013-12-30 Thread Kathy Brandt
In case you didn't know: phone clean didn't use to work with the iPhone 5s, but
now the pro version does. You have to pay $29 for that but it's a license for
life. This is my first time purchasing On a mac. I had trouble getting the
credit card information in, so had to do it through PayPal. On three devices I
gained 800 MB.

Since I had gotten no reply regarding the CNN update, I decided to take the
plunge and try it. Version 2.0 works fine with getting to the cable provider
and watching TV without crashing, even on my fourth GEN iPod touch. This is the
first time in quite a while that I don't have any updates in the App Store.

On my fourth GEN iPod touch QVC still has the blips unless you turn voiceover
off, but they don't sound on The iOS 7 devices. Curiously enough, be in the
kitchen with David app even with iOS 6 never had that problem, even though made
by the same people.

RE: accessible fitness tracker or iOS app for a stationary bike

2013-12-30 Thread Cristóbal
Yes, I'm sure if one got creative, perhaps these apps could be used, but
then you run into all the other variables with each bike design such as how
the information is laid out. What if you have to cycle through different
screens to access different information (distance, calories burned, time,
heart rate). How would an OCR app capture a screen if numbers are constantly
changing. The screen going blank or down once you stop your program or stop
peddling, etc. I guess too, one could try using Facetime or Skype to
communicate in real-time with someone, but even then...
Ideally, something existing like i-treadmill where you could punch in your
settings (weight, height and so on) and get information as you peddle.
Either through the fitness tracker links via bluetooth or an app itself
would be great. If I had a spare iPod Touch I'd even consider strapping it
to my calf with an armband and go all ghetto fabulous fitbit to see the
results, but I don't.
Perhaps with the new 5S and its m7 chip this would be more feasible than
with the older models, but who knows. I thought it would be easier to find
something along these lines, but so far, that hasn't been the case.

Hi Ricardo,

What about Talking Goggles? I have gotten it to read other LED displays such
as on my George Foreman. I guess if the lighting was good and you
experimented with the distance with Prizmo, it could tell you info on the
display. I haven't tried with it. I have used TapTapSee in the past, but now
you have to pay for it's service. Another idea could be the VizWiz app. I
know that their turn around time in receiving a response is not optimal,
but it could be used in a pinch. HTH.

Track This package tracking is shut down

2013-12-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello,

I know there are others on the list who are using the "Track This" app which
allows you to track packages/shipments from a variety of courier and postal
services.

Today I tried to add the tracking number for the Logitech K810 keyboard I
ordered from Amazon. Everything seemed normal until I double tapped on
"Save" after I entered the information, at that point I received the
following message:

Error

Track This has been closed and is no longer accepting new packages.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

There is an OK button and that's it. I subsequently searched for Track This
in the App Store and did not find it any more, then I went to their website,
www.UseTrackThis.com, and here is what it says:

Announcing the Shutdown of TrackThis

Effective immediately, TrackThis has been closed.

No further package tracking updates will be sent out. Existing users can log
in to retrieve their tracking numbers, but no new tracking numbers can be
added.

Thank you to the loyal users of the service and to those that have
recommended us to others over the years. More info will be posted in the
coming days.

The app Posted also is accessible and seems to work and of course most
couriers have their own apps, but I always found Track This worked well. For
a while I tried Posted alongside Track This and if I added the same packages
it seemed that Track This push notifications about scans and updates came
quicker than those from Posted.

Is anybody using a different app, I mean different than Track This and
Posted, and if so, which one?

Best regards,

Sieghard

Re: LG HBS730 Headphones, Do They Work With IOS 7?

2013-12-30 Thread Katey Glass
Hi Arnold,

I'm just bumping this up as I'm interested in knowing if anyone has tried these
under iOS 7. If not, I'll try as my fiance has the 730's I'll ask him if he
notices any dropouts, though he's ssighted. If he doesn't I'll turn on VO on
his phone and try for myself by turning on VO on his 5s.

Re: Tiny External Battery

2013-12-30 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

I had the bad luck to find that the case for my iPhone 5 I received as a gift
in June stopped working after updating to iOS 7. I got the error message that
this device is not certified by apple and charging might not be supported.
While I got this warning before with other cables they still charged. This case
however did not. Quite a disappointment.

So, indeed whatch out for iOS compatibility or test the charger before buying
or make sure you can return it if it does not work.

Best and have a happy 2014,

Ioana

RE: 12 Days of Gifts

2013-12-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

As Billy said, it's been mentioned a few times, they started out with a
welcome gift so to speak before Christmas and it was a song by Lorde, the
young female singer from New Zealand.

As for your statement, Billy, I don't think downloading and taking advantage
of the gifts offered depends on your version of iOS.

Lastly, not being impressed by the gifts is subjective, there maybe only 1
or 2 in the collection you like or maybe there are more or maybe there are
none. But, as the saying goes, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, the
app is free and if you check it out every day and end up not getting
anything you aren't any worse off.

Sieghard

I was just wondering, would it be possible to use an app like Prizmo for

Re: accessible fitness tracker or iOS app for a stationary bike

2013-12-30 Thread Brett
Hi,

I am not aware of a specific app for a stationary bike, but something probably
does exist.

Since iTreadmill doesn't track distance correctly, I have switched to Pacer. I
just put the phone in my pocket while riding. I use Ultratrainer so I can
follow the same 2 or 3 programs when on the bike. At the end of the program, I
can look at pacer to get an idea of the distance I have done. The distance may
not be correct with that on the bike, since Pacer assumes I am walking, but at
least I have a distance measurement that I can compare with previous rides.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Re: accessible fitness tracker or iOS app for a stationary bike

2013-12-30 Thread Cheryl Homiak
You know, I've been wondering the same thing. I have a new Schwinn (excuse
spelling!) and it actually does have a usb port. So I wondered if there is a
way to hook it up to my Mac or to use an app of some kind with i-device or
computer to get the info from the bike. I can actually use the bike fine; I
just use Talking Timer on my iPhone to time and at least the buttons to adjust
resistance beep and there's a double beep when you get to the very hardest and
very easiest setting. But it would be nice to se all the settings. I know the
screen shows info all the time; even when you first start it, it shows
something "pedal tgo continue". I really wish I could know all that's going on.

accessible fitness tracker or iOS app for a stationary bike

2013-12-30 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So I’ve got a recumbent exercise bike and while a lot of the features aren’t
accessible to me, I use it fine through the manual quickstart setting and
adjust tention as I go. My sighted wife when she’s around will give me the
rundown on distance, heart rate and whatnot, but if she’s not around, then
I’m clueless as to what my progress is. The best I can do is use the stop
watch on my iPhone to measure my time.

In any event, I was wondering if anyone knew of a fitness tracking device
that will indeed work with stationary bikes or at least an app such as
i-treadmill for walking with the iPhone? I’ve poked around online, and from
what I’ve found, the FitBit forums aren’t very encouraging as to the
feasibility of trying out one of those devices with a stationary bike. Some
folks talk about clipping it on to their shoe and getting so-so results that
way, but I’m not convinced. That and the whole accessibility issue with the
device or its associated iPhone app.

I can’t recall fitness trackers being discussed too much on this list
either.

Anyway, I just thought I’d ask if anyone is using any sort of app on their
phone that can track stationary bike usage or of there is in fact an
accessible fitness tracker out there that could accomplish this.

Thanks,

Re: Good accessible notes app

2013-12-30 Thread Christopher Chaltain
What features are you looking for in a Notes app? There's always the
built in native Notes app. Other apps like Nebulus or Note Master Lite,
give you other features such as syncing with Drop Box or allowing you to
mark up the text a bit.

They don't make this model any longer but they do have others just like
it.
The 1800 mAh is small enough to fit in a pocket and of course the A/Can
prongs

flip back up into the case. There is a recessed charge button that you
press to start the charging. It makes the same connect sound that it
would

if you were at home charging your phone in the usual way. You can always
turn your phone on to see how the charge is going. As long as you hear
the

word charging, it's still um, charging! When it fully recharges, the
recharger will automatically disconnect or if reaches a point where it
cannot recharge any farther so you might see battery power 89 percent and
it

doesn't say charging then you know that's all your gunna get out of it. If
you have your sync/charge cable with you, you can put the battery in your
shirt pocket and still talk on the phone.

Has anybody else downloaded the 12 days of gifts app? It starts on the
twenty sixth of December and goes on for the next 12 days. Each day you can
download a free gift from Apple. So far, they have given away a couple Justin
Timberlake tracks, 2 games that I'd guess won't be accessible and a movie. The
movie runs over 2 hours. The book was a travel book which I haven't had time
to check out. Has anybody else downloaded the 12 days of gifts app? I found
it strange that nobody mentioned it. That's why I'm asking.

I hope everybody got some really cool Apple products. I got the money for my
iPad Air but haven't gone to the Apple store to get it yet. I gave my wife one
too as she was the one who started all this by wanting a new computer for
Christmas. I suggested an iPad rather then a new computer and she jumped at it
because several of the other nurses at work have them and sense I couldn't

Re: iPad mini with retina volume problem

2013-12-30 Thread Chris H

Hi
it's a bug with iOS 7, those using an iPhone 5s also have this problem,
reset all settings by going to settings general reset and then reset all
settings, you will be told this will reset all settings but preserve
content and media, try that and let us know then if that works remove
volume from the rotor if it is in there.

Re: getting a book off my phone onto the computer

2013-12-30 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

In the iTunes sources table, arrow down to your iPhone. Then VO right arrow
over to the books button, and interact with the scroll area. In there, make
sure you have sync books/audiobooks checked.

RE: Tiny External Battery

2013-12-30 Thread Suzanne Wilson
Hi Sieghard,

You may well be right. I'm no expert on things like this. All I know is that
I have seen reviews of some of these chargers, including this particular
Anker, that uncategorically state that it doesn't work with IOS7. For me,
that's enough to discourage me from buying, since I don't want to go through
the hassle of returning a product.

Hi Suzanne,

I have never seen a battery which worked only on older iOS versions. I know
when I first had my iPod Touch Third Gen and then got my iPhone 4 a year
later that some of the older 30-Pin docks did not fully support newer
devices at the time, but in the last few years I don't think this is the
case. As long as a battery has either a built-in 30-PIN or Lightning
connector or a port where you use the standard Apple 30-PIN or Lightning
cable and as long as said battery provides standard USB current it should
work just fine.
When a dock had issues I don't think it was because of the version of iOS on
the device, but had more to do with the PIN configuration which I think was
different for the iPhone 3G/3GS and Third Gen iPod than that of later
devices. I have one dock which always said it would not support charging my
iPhone 4 and 4S, but it always did charge it anyways. This should definitely
not be an issue with any external battery you buy these days. If it says it
can charge an iPhone 4S or 5 it will definitely charge an iPhone 5S, 5C and
also any iPod Touch.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello,

The problem with many of these small chargers, including the Anker, is that
there is no guarantee that they will work with IOS 7. I know that the Incase
5400 is IOS 7 compatible and is pretty small. Hopefully, I'll be getting a
look at it at the Apple store tomorrow. If you like, I'll let you know my
impressions. Unfortunately, I do know that it's pricier than the Anker.

getting a book off my phone onto the computer

2013-12-30 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
My sister sent me an audio book as a gift for christmas via itunes. I
downloaded the book to my phone and want it on my computer. when I synced my
phone with my computer, the book didn’t come across. I just plugged my phone
in, opened itunes and pressed the sync button. I’m using an iphone 5 and a
macbook air. the iphone is running the latest software, while the mac is not,
will update tonight but if anyone can offer any suggestions, to get the book
from my phone and onto the computer, that would be great.
Have a great day,
Andrew
