RE: Looking for music app with cross fading
Thanks, purchased it and have been playing with it. It certainly does a really nice job of cross fading and normalizing. The interface although confusing for someone not used to all of the DJ related functions does seem to be quite VO friendly. I have to read through the help file to learn more. There doesn't seem to be any prev/next controls so I'm sure I'm missing something there. Also, I haven't found a way of populating the queue with the music I want so for now have just been using the automix function and specifying a play list under automix settings. Re: Saving attachments
Where do you want to save it? You can save to Dropbox by hitting the Share button, then Open In, then Dropbox. Or you could open it in other apps (KNFB Reader, Camera, Voice Dream, and so on) from that same Open In menu. Remember that iOS doesn't save files to folders like a traditional computer does. Re: Voice Dream Writer Anomalies
I have not had any of those issues. If I touch the proof reading button and then do a single finger tap in the upper left corner, it begins reading. Since the proof reading button is only appearing when in edit mode, a two finger double tap will not toggle reading but start dictation. I do not use fleksy, so I can't address that issue. My guess is the resource requirement for running them both at the same time might be too much. I've had quite a few apps open with Writer and never had any issues in the app switcher. I am running an iPhone 5S. Richard Reality is the leading cause of stress for those who are in touch with it. Jane Wagner, from In Search of Intelligent Life in the Universe Sent from my iPhone 5S On Jan 30, 2015, at 9:37 AM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: I purchased Voice Dream Writer yesterday to take advantage of the $7.99 sale price. I'm running it on a 64GB iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.3. I'm running into some strange behavior with the app and am curious if others are experiencing anything similar. I was playing with the introductory document provided with the app and noticed that when I placed focus on the play button in the bottom center of the screen and then tried double tapping elsewhere on the screen to execute it, that nothing happened. I had to either split tap the play button or double tap precisely on it to start playback. I was under the impression that after giving a button focus, double tapping anywhere on the screen should cause its execution under default iOS VoiceOver rules. I decided to begin a new test document to check my typing with Writer. I am a long-time Fleksy VO user and admit I'm still looking for something that will let me type as fast as I can with Fleksy VO. I know that Writer is not an app designed for quick typing but it is a writing app so I thought I'd give it a whirl. After getting one sentence typed fairly slowly, I decided to check if I could zip over to Fleksy VO, type out a couple of sentences quickly, and then copy and paste them back into Writer. I discovered that with Writer running, Fleksy VO was pretty much incapacitated. The Fleksy VO keyboard did come up but pressing the keys resulted in no input at all. Fleksy VO was pretty much frozen. I then tried going to the App Switcher to jump back to Writer and instead of double tapping the Writer button in App Switcher causing it to open as is the normal behavior, it caused Writer to close. This also happened on other App Switcher apps I tried double tapping to open. They all closed as if I had done a 3-finger swipe up on them. I then tried going to various screens of my apps to launch other apps and it was clear that placing focus on an app icon and executing it was not working as it should under VoiceOver. I was getting similar behavior to what I experienced and previously described with the Writer play button. I had to reboot my phone by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously to return to proper functioning. My experience with Writer and Fleksy Keyboard is giving me the feeling that whatever Apple had to do to enable developers to provide third-party keyboards was not fully tested with VoiceOver. When using one of these apps and then experiencing failure of normal VO gestures such as default actions when executing a button and the failure of the normal methods to initiate execution, I am very hesitant to experiment further with these apps. The potential cost is just too high for the marginal benefit of the app. I already deleted an entire important text message thread when trying the Fleksy keyboard because the default open action got stuck on delete when I tried opening a text message thread. I'm wondering how many iOS upgrades or app upgrades it's going to take to get third-party keyboards implemented with VoiceOver functioning properly. Have others experienced anomalies when using Writer similar or different to what I've described? I know there were several posts about the Voice Dream voices not working with Writer initially but if there were others which discussed other problems, I didn't see them. Re: opening a document in voice dream writer
Hmm! Guess you could try saving it in Word on a PC to a plain text document first, but perhaps you'd lose quite a lot of formatting then, which of course you could put right once again with Dream Writer and export it (keeping the original for further amendments) to those invoices in the future. If you have a go, do tell us how you get on. I'm seriously thinking I'll do my recipes this way and may keep a original template to slot in the text each time. Re: KNFB Reader dropts to $49.99
I have had pretty good success with KNFB Reader on envelopes. The key factors are lighting and height. You do not need to have it as far above an envelope as you would for a sheet of paper. Also, make sure it is not on a white background around the envelope because that will confuse it as to where the edges of the page are located. Make sure you don't have the flash on all the time unless you know you are in a dark room. I find just a few inches above the envelope is usually enough. I've also scanned whole pages in all different orientations and had good results whether the text was upside down, sideways, etc. Using a 5S. Hello,I did not have any similar anomalies but have a suggestion about starting and stopping playback Try 2 finger double tap like when you play music Best, Ioana Sent from my iPhone On Jan 30, 2015, at 12:37 PM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: I purchased Voice Dream Writer yesterday to take advantage of the $7.99 sale price. You can't. If you choose to open the attachment in an app, it will be saved for you automatically but only the app can access it. Uep. Now it's.not marketed at us at all now. Now they don't even get good reviews. Serves them right. From my experience though, it isn't always the main stream media that's at fault when some facts and expectations are misrepresented. I've seen plenty a marketing brochure or press release from a company making products for the blind that do more than imply that some technology was off limits by the blind until they put out there product. Some of this is to be expected; obviously a company is going to hype their products, but IMHO, I've seen this carried too far in quite a few instances. When I think of situations where negative stereotypes about blind people come into play, the use of technology isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. I tend to think about education, or employment, or parenting long before I think of access to the latest and greatest tech. But, as a recent /Wire/d article about a new Braille-writing app demonstrated, misconceptions still abound about what technology blind people are able to gainfully use. The article, published on January 23, 2015, was written about a new iPad app called iBrailler Notes. The app, which allows users to type notes on their iPad using Braille, was just recently released on the App Store. iBrailler’s main selling point is a Dynamic Keyboard — a feature which adjusts the position of the Braille keyboard each and every time you place your fingers on the screen. It’s always great to see mainstream media outlets reporting on news impacting the visually impaired, because these stories often educate the public about just how much empowerment blind people can have through the use of assistive technology. What isn’t so great, however, is when journalists get very important details wrong and thus inaccurately represent a story — and therein lies my motivation for writing this post. In the first paragraph of the /Wired/ article, the author states that it is nearly impossible for blind people to use devices with touchscreens: /The proliferation of touchscreen technology may have revolutionized mobile computer input for most everyone, but there’s one sector of the population that isn’t exactly feeling the pinch, the tap, or the swipe: the blind. It’s nearly impossible to interact with elements on a totally smooth screen if you can’t see./ Put simply, the author’s facts are completely inaccurate. Thanks to Apple’s excellent implementation of VoiceOver screen-reading technology, blind users are able to fully and independently utilize the touchscreens on their devices. Need to find a specific app on your home screen? No problem! Either flick left or right with one finger and listen to VoiceOver read the app names as you pass them; or you can just move your finger around the screen to get an idea of the layout. Want to send an e-mail? You got it! Your options include using the touchscreen keyboard in three different typing modes; built-in Braille Screen Input; Handwriting Mode; and of course, dictation. (That’s another thing that gets on my nerves: dictation is not the be-all-and-end-all solution for text entry on an iOS device if you are blind.) iOS isn't for you? Have no fear! It’s possible to use a touchscreen on an Android device as well, even if the experience isn’t as polished as it is on iOS. Oh, and about those gestures that blind people supposedly can’t feel: not only can blind users tap, pinch, and swipe; we can two-, three-, and four-finger double-tap; we can write Braille with Apple’s built-in Braille keyboard feature; and we can even use Handwriting Mode if we so desire. For being nearly impossible to use, Apple’s touchscreen-equipped
Re: Voice Dream Writer Anomalies
Also, Flecksy VO isn't, strictly speaking, a third-party keyboard. It also got discontinued quite a while ago, so there might be some issues with it and iOS 8. I stopped using it a while ago because while I could type, the text wasn't automatically being copied to the clipboard when I exited the app. This made it kind of useless. And as for the regular version of Fleksy, well, in my opinion, that's another nightmare entirely. I know they say they're working on stuff for VO users, but it doesn't feel like they're accomplishing very much to me, which is rather disheartening. I really hope things take a change for the better soon. Fleksy, in either of it's iterations, would make a great companion to Voice Dream Writer, but not as far as things stand right now. I know there were several posts about the Voice Dream

Re: Maximising storage and battery life on my IPhone/IPad - any ideas?
I think I've heard of an app for managing your battery life; if I remember correctly, it was called Battery Doctor. There are some things that you can do that will help reduce your battery drain. You'll want to turn on the reduce motion setting in settings/general/accessibility. You'll also want to turn on the reduce transparency setting in settings/general/accessibility/increase contrast. Another potential battery hog is the background app refresh setting; you'll want to turn that off, too, in settings/general/background app refresh. There's also some settings in settings/privacy/location services that you'll want to take a look at. iOS eight introduced some new controls for when apps can use your location. You'll have to set this on an app-by-app basis, though, as not every app supports it. The three options are to always use your location, to never use your location, or to only use your location while using the app. As for controlling automatic downloads, you can specify what gets automatically downloaded under settings/iTunes and App Store. There's a couple of sections in there, so you'll want to make sure that you thoroughly explore everything. It's not too big of a screen, though, so you shouldn't have too much trouble. But just wondered if anyone knew of a good app which is accessible and which might do a similar thing for my IPhone/IPad?? Also, on a secondary point, does anyone know of any good/accessible battery management apps for the IPhone/IPad, as I'd like to make the most out of that too and preserve it for as long as possible. I do have an external battery, but obviously don't want to use this unless I have to. I'm also a bit worried if you can overcharge an IPhone/IPad? I do always try to let them run down completely, but when I charge them I'm never sure how long to leave them on for, and then I always panick that I mighht have overdone it so-to-speak and ruined/reduced my battery's life. So how long should you charge one of these devices for? Any other ideas on how I could possibly proloong/preserve my battery? Phone Randomly Playing Music
Hello, I’m having an odd problem on my iPhone 6. I have a set of earphones with a built-in microphone and which has the iTunes controls, where if you squeeze the mic part of the earphone cord it plays or pauses music. Re: KNFB Reader dropts to $49.99
hi, I also find that Prizmo is better at reading text when it is upsidedown.perhaps, I have a setting wrong in the reader app, but if the text is not up the right way I get gibberish. anyone else experiencing this with the KNFB reader? thanks, Sandy Sent from my iPhone On 30 Jan 2015, at 00:45, Feliciano Godoy theblindman...@hotmail.com wrote: I like prizmo to recognize text that arein PDF documents with images. Re: [New post] You know, blind people can actually use touchscreens
I can remember when Fleksy was first released and when they primarily aimed at the blind community. One of their arguments for the product was that it was virtually impossible for a blind person to use the built-in onscreen keyboard, so this isn’t new at all. /Krister 30 jan 2015 kl. 02:13 skrev Christopher Chaltain chalt...@gmail.com: Ah, a good post. For being nearly impossible to use, Apple’s touchscreen-equipped devices are popular with blind people the world over. Android, while not as accessible as iOS, also has blind people using touchscreen devices. It’s even possible to use touchscreen Windows 8.1 computers with screen
