Hi, Mary! Well, this Apple Music lark is quite a tortuous and mysterious process! You have to enable iCloud Music Library to start the process going. I have never had iTunes Match so I had to enable Apple Music too and then Apple servers had to start from scratch scanning my iTunes library and uploading copies. If you have had iTunes Match, Apple will already have done this process to your library, so no need to do more, perhaps. I noticed little completion sounds and accidentally found an Activity symbol whirling away at the top right of the itunes window. When I clicked on that symbol, a pop up explained which track it was currently uploading. You can also go to the itunes menu on your mac, File, Library and select Update iCloud library if it is not dimmed just to see if any updating is needed. I have 10762 items (70GB) in iTunes and, although my fairly new Mac mini has been churning away uploading music for over 24 hours now on a fast broadband connection, it still has masses of tracks saying Waiting to upload. There seems to be no way of finding out what percentage of the library is still waiting but the Activity Pop up does show that it keeps moving on. So another few days should see it through! If you have not yet enabled iCloud Music Library, it could be worth waiting a while to let Apple sort out bugs and let Apple's servers recover from the onslaught of millions of our itunes libraries all wanting to be uploaded at once! I must say that Mary's is the sort of experience I have. I too have got match subscription but I can't find anything relating to itunes match in the menus, and my icloud library is enabled although I had not enabled it knowingly. I'm totally confused. I've been reading constantly on the list and on the internet about apple music but I still have doubts about my itunes match. I won't be subscribing to apple music and I have no idea how this is going to affect my itunes match side of things. So far I have noticed a few albums missing from my icloud library which I had previously uploaded via itunes match. I've also since the introduction of apple music bought a few albums via itunes. I see a post on the list which gives steps to restore previous itunes library but I hesitate to mess about with it i in case I lose my purchases. I have also noticed this: with the iCloud music library enabled, it seems no longer possible to use iTunes to select which music to sync with my phone - perhaps because the idea is (as with iTunes Match) that all your music from your iTunes library will be available on you iPhone via the streaming from iCloud library? But what about when I have no wifi and no cellular connection? Or when I'm abroad and dont want to pay roaming charges? It all seems so unlike Apple to leave such a massive process so poorly explained to us customers. Need help getting back contacts
Hi, I backed up my phone yesterday in order to fix an issue I was having with the app store not updating my apps. Now I have many contacts missing or others that are missing info etc. I need to get all my contacts back but my apps etc are fine. How do I do this? If you happened to change it to standard, this would be your problem, since with standard you need a double tap or split tap to enter a letter. As for your iPhone 6 question, The extra real estate will take some getting use to. My wife and I don’t like iPads for that reason, too big. However, you should be fine. It’s a lot faster, has apple pay. IOS 8.3 isn’t bad, however IOS 8.4 that just came out is a bit problematic. Help needed with This American Life app
Hi All, I'm having trouble getting anything to play in the latest version of the this American life app. Although the buttons appear for the most part to be clearly labeled, I can't get anything to happen no matter what I tap on. I tried going back to an accessible version of the app I had saved in my backups, but when I run this old version the list of shows doesn't update past 2013. Any tips would be appreciated. Hi again and thank you for your patience and for your help. I downloaded the app that you suggested and I copied the link. I opened up the app but there was no paste on the router so that I could paste the link into the app so I have three questions. Number one how do I find the video link for sure that I know it is the video link? Number two once I have opened up the app where do I find a place to paste the link? Took a while until i found out that the heading «allbum» is a button. Knock on that button and you will be happy to find. And, while using new apps, go into settings, accessibility, voice over and turn on the «help button». That’s how i found out. When you start playing the YouTube video you want, move your finger to top right of screen till you locate the Share button: double-tap and then a menu appears in the bottom half of the screen. Again I used my finger to locate Copy Link near the bottom and double-tapped. Next open the TubeMate app and when it has loaded your finger can locate a button labelled as Button Nav Search at top right of screen and you should double-tap on that button. VoiceOver announces that you are in an edit field so you now do a double-tap and hold. When you get the tone, voiceover announces Paste so you double-tap and voiceover reads out the YouTube URL it has just pasted. You then find the Search button at bottom right of the keyboard and double-tap. The next screen displays a picture of your desired video and if you move your finger to bottom of screen, voiceover will land on and read out the title of the video: double-tap and your video will start playing. On the right hand side about half wY down in portrait mode your finger will find the Download button so double-tap. Now a menu appears in bottom half of screen so you can select the quality of video resolution you want for your download: move your finger down to the list (I find the first option of 144p is fine) and double-tap on your selected quality. The app then starts downloading the YouTube video to store it on your iPhone. By doubl_tapping a couple of times top left of screen, you get back to the NAV menu and the second item down is My Downloaded Videos, which you select and then get to play by double tapping. I still have a tiny bit of vision so I use some bits of VO and some bits of my vision, so I hope you can still follow my instructions if you have no usable sight! I believe that it is touch. All I have to do is, place my finger on the letter or number and lift up and it selects that letter or number. Go to settings, mail, contacts, calendars, then under the contacts heading, you will find a toggle button that says show in app switcher. Just double tap this to turn it off. I think it is on by default. I really need help restoring all my contacts
Hi, I am still having a lot of trouble restoring all my contacts after a phone crash. I backed up my phone and somehow got contacts from ages ago and others I have deleted so now need to get them all restored but don’t want to mess up my apps etc again. ITunes Match and AppleMusic
Hi, I've heard there have been some problems with folks who have iTunes Match and then they join AppleMusic. I think some of what I read about this has been on this list, but I'm not certain about that. Would it be prudent to inactivate iTunes Match both on my iPhone 6 and on iTunes on my PC before activating AppleMusic? Has anyone on this list with iTunes Match and AppleMusic had any problems with both being active simultaneously? Only way is to restore yesterday’s backup. There maybe ways to just get your contacts from that backup with other software like Copy Trans, but a lot of this software first of all requires you to buy a licence and secondly is not the most accessible. Maybe somebody knows of an application which is accessible, but the easiest would be to restore your backup. Of course I couldn’t say if this will bring back your app updating problem. I guess you could also call Apple Accessibility and ask if they know of a way to just restore your contacts. I see you are using a Hotmail email address, in other words you are using Outlook.com. Have you not enabled Contacts for your Hotmail account? If you do all your contacts will be on Outlook.com in the cloud and all you have to do to get your contacts, email and, if you want, calendar back if you get a new device or have to restore is to setup your account again and everything will sync back to your device. I just downgraded from the iOS 9 Beta 2 back to iOS 8.4 since the iOS 9 beta was a bit too unstabil at this point for my liking and I ended up having to set up as a new phone. Once that was all done I added my Outlook.com account and everything was back, contacts and email. Hi Jennifer, You're exactly right about how to move apps. I think flicking may work differently because instead of being in a grid pattern, items on the watch screen tend to be arranged more in concentric circles, with the watch face in the middle. On podcasts, I've heard people describe arranging their apps in a lot of different shapes. With this variety, my guess is that flicking through will take you to every app, but not necessarily in the order you would expect. I mostly get to apps by using Siri, by double-tapping complications or notifications, and by only turning on the glances I need and putting them in the order I want. RE: how to get my Iphone sounds back
Go to Settings, Sounds and under the heading Ringer and Alerts check the sound volume, maybe it's at 0 in which case you wouldn't hear your ringtone or any alert tones. You can flick up with one finger to raise this and I recommend that after you have it at the volume you want that you flick right once more and turn off Change with buttons. This will prevent your volume getting accidently lowered again with the volume buttons. You can then swipe right a couple more times and find the Ringtone button. Double tap on it and here you will find a list of available ringtones you can choose from. Double tapping on them will play them and whatever you played last will also be selected as your ringtone. I added stuff to my music but did not tell it to make available offline but it still took up room on my phone even though it did not say I had more music in the storage under music. I had to just delete all the music I saved, so now I have no way to remember all the tracks ow liked. I moderatoors, Richard Turner has aked me to ask about his messages not getting to the list. He has changed subscriptions, and now he isn't getting any of him messages sent into the list. When you redeem it into your account, it just adds the amount of the card as credit.
