Re: Iphone5S In Canada?

2016-04-24 Thread Eva Abbas
Hello Sieghard,

Hope you’re doing well. Do you still have your iPhone 5S 64 unlocked? Are
you willing to ship it to Ottawa? Is there a way I can pay you for that? I
would take it. I want to travel to Lebanon this summer and I think my iPhone
5S is locked because it is a contract with Virgin. I don’t think I can take it
with me to Lebanon and use it there.
Thank you

Hi Fazil,

As I mentioned before, I have a 5S 64 Gb Space Grey for sale. It is unlocked
and works just fine. If you want to buy a new one you just have to check around
who still has them since they are discontinued now that the iPhone SE has been
released to take the place of the 5S. You can check with Apple Stores and of
course eBay and so on, maybe Best Buy also.

If you don’t want to buy a used 5S it may not make sense to buy a new one
considering the price of the iPhone SE which you can buy unlocked for $579
Canadian for a 16 Gb or for $709 for a 64 Gb (there is no 32 Gb).

Of course we do have 12% tax in British Columbia, so a 16 Gb would end up
costing $648.48 and a 64 Gb would be $794.08 with taxes.

I would sell my unlocked 5S 64 Gb for half that, $400 Canadian, it would ship
in the original box and I’d include an original Apple Leather case, a basic

TPU case, an Otterbox Defender and a leather holster with belt clip which is
big enough to hold the 5S in a basic case. Also an Apple wall charger and
cable, only thing I don’t have right now is an unused set of Earpods.

I would also include shipping to Vancouver in that or I can meet you and we do
this face-to-face as my wife has a medical appointment in Vancouver next week,
we’ll be there on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Take care,

Sieghard

Re: accessible metronome

2016-04-24 Thread Brett

Hi,

Running in the background just means you can close the app or switch to another
app and taptronome will keep working.

I am not sure what those numbers mean when you flick up or down. However when
adjusting the tempo, I tend to turn VO off and just slide my finger up or down
on the screen. I find doing it this way allows me to change the tempo in
smaller incriments.

Cheers Brett.

RE: How to access digital booklet which came with iTunes album

2016-04-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Yes, mine came with the album download as well but wasn't listed under the
music app no doubt due to it being a PDF file and not playable music. I would
have thought that such digital booklets coming with albums purchased on the
iTunes Store would be easily accessible on one's iPhone but I could not locate
it in iBooks or in any other app. I finally located it on my computer,
transferred it to an appropriate Dropbox folder and brought it into Voice Dream
Reader. That's a better place to listen to it than iBooks anyway.

I purchased an album in the iTunes store today on my iPhone and it came with a
digital booklet. I want to access this booklet with my phone to have VoiceOver
read it but I can't find it. When I go into the music app, only the music from
this album is listed and not the digital booklet.

Does anyone know how I can access this booklet with my iPhone?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have the latest update, 4.03. I don't know what it is about this iCloud

RE: accessible metronome

2016-04-24 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Thanks for the hint about turning voice over off for taptronome. I have a
further question. When I flick up or down to change the tempo, it seems to
move erratically. It'll say for example, 87 then when I flick up I hear 97-91
right after each other. Any thoughts. I like the sound of the metronome.
Also, not to show my ignorance, but what do you mean by "running in the
background?" Thanks.
God bless!

Hi Peter,

Taptronome works in the backg'round. A single flick up or down adjusts the
metronome speed and a single flick left or right adjusts the beats per bar. You
need to toggle VoiceOver offf, then do a single tap to start or stop the
metronome.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Cheers Brett.

More voice dream fun

2016-04-24 Thread Mary Otten
Hi folks,
In further experimenting with my voice dream, I decided to move a whole bunch
of ethnic cookbooks on my iPad into an ethnic cookbooks folder. I went through
the entire list of all items selecting all of the ethnic cookbooks. Then I did
the move process. And voice dream crashed after a while. When I went back into
the app, I found that some of the books had been moved into this folder, but
all had not been. I opened my iPhone after closing the app on my iPad and
discovered that none of the books had been moved into this folder. This app is
definitely worse since the upgrade. If I could get the old app back again with
my folders I would forgo iCloud sink, which seems to be a bigger pain in the
butt than it's worth and has caused nothing but problems. I know it was
thoroughly beta tested. But for me, it's been a disaster. I had really look
forward to iCloud sync. But clearly, it's not working right.

Possible bug with Blindfold Spin and Solve.

2016-04-24 Thread englishrider91
I'm having a few issues with Blindfold Spin and Solve. The first one, is that
if I try to check the letters and blank spaces in the phrase by doing a
two-finger swipe right on the other player's turn, the game is ended. The other
problem I'm having is that the keyboard goes into alternative character mode
very, very quickly, and it's hard to get out of it without unintendedly
entering a letter. Also, the keyboard sometimes doesn't pop up. Is anyone else
having any of these issues, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Ari

iCloud sync and folders with the latest update of voice dream reader

2016-04-24 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I have updated voice dream on my iPhone and my iPad mini. I decided to go ahead
and make some folders. Starting with the items in no folder, which are still a
tiny subset of my entire collection, I moved several books into each of three
new folders. This was on my iPhone. I check the folders, and the books are
indeed there and no longer in "no folder". I closed voice dream and opened it
on my iPad. And I found that the new folders are there, but the books are not
in the new folders. They seem to be in the no folder. Although it's impossible
for me to remember them all, and the number of items in "no folder ". On my
iPad seems to have gone down from what I remember it having been. This is
confusing and frustrating, given all the problems I have had with this app
since updating. I don't know why all of the books didn't end up in no folder to
start with, but they didn't and they still aren't. Anyway, I am wondering if
anyone has had luck moving stuff into folders on one device and then having
them show up correctly on another one with cloud sync.

Yes, I agree. Apple should use your story as a marketing tool. LOL! Happy for
you that it was found, and just for the sheer joy of the oohs and ahhs of the
people in the Apple store either tell the story or bring your email.

Thanks, Richard. Think I'll just stick with my provider.

I recently went over my limit and still can't work out why and that's

Anyway, I'll see what happens in the future and revisit if it happens again.

Thanks for your info.

You can also sign up for Email alerts when you are in danger of going

not sure.

Hi,

I thought I would try this and so got it from the App Store in the UK.
The first thing I see is that I have to sign in and I am not sure how
I do this since I haven't signed up with cellular, and presumably, as
it is offered here in the UK, it is usable over here. Any advice would

Just let everyone know I am getting 250 of talk time, unlimited

Subject: RE: Iphone5S In Canada?

Take care,

Sieghard

RE: Question on data usage.

2016-04-24 Thread Richard Turner
If you are talking about the Consumer Cellular app, then it is useless until
you have an account with them as you have to sign into your account to track
your usage.

And, the usage is about 24 to 48 hours old when you can check it in the app
store.

You can also sign up for Email alerts when you are in danger of going over your
plan amount. Or maybe they just do that automatically. I’m not sure.

i believe that there are internet security companies that are still supporting

Hi Fred,

We noticed that you're running the Dropbox desktop application (client) on
Windows XP. We're writing to let you know that as of August 29th, 2016, Dropbox
will no longer support this version of Windows. You can find which devices
connected to your account are running Windows XP by visiting your account
  page.

Don't worry — your files and photos aren't going anywhere! But you'll need to
update your computer to Windows Vista or later to access them through the
Dropbox desktop application. You can find instructions on how to update your
operating system on Microsoft’s

  website.

If you don't want to update your operating system, your files will still be
available through the Dropbox website
 . However, on August 29th,
you'll be signed out of your Dropbox account on your computer and the Dropbox
desktop application will no longer be accessible.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. For more information, please
see our Help Center.

Sincerely,
- The Dropbox Team

Re: Apple Pencil with VoiceOver?

2016-04-24 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi. The Apple pencil is 99% useless with voiceover. The only thing it allows
you to do is draw letters on the screen for handwriting. As far as the sketches
go, no, they cannot be interacted with while voiceover is enabled. In fact, you
can't even draw on the screen without voiceover being disabled.

Take care,
Sieghard

Well, actually my wife is still running XP and so are many others that I
know. i believe that there are internet security companies that are still
supporting XP in their products. Also, if you want to pay for it, MS is still
offering enterprise updates for XP as there are still needs for it primarily
for control of older medical devices still being used in hospitals, etc.

   Hi Fred,

We noticed that you're running the Dropbox desktop
application (client) on Windows XP. We're writing to let you know that as of
August 29th, 2016, Dropbox will no longer support this version of Windows. You
can find which devices connected to your account are running Windows XP by
visiting your account page.

Don't worry — your files and photos aren't going anywhere!
But you'll need to update your computer to Windows Vista or later to access
them through the Dropbox desktop application. You can find instructions on how
to update your operating system on Microsoft’s website.

If you don't want to update your operating system, your
files will still be available through the Dropbox website. However, on August
29th, you'll be signed out of your Dropbox account on your computer and the
Dropbox desktop application will no longer be accessible.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. For more
information, please see our Help Center.

Sincerely,
- The Dropbox Team

Re: There is a new update for voice dream reader

2016-04-24 Thread Richard Turner
I don't think repairing the library will get authors on all your books that
don't have authors. I tried it this morning and several books I had downloaded
a few months back did not show authors afterward. But, if I downloaded them
again the author shows up.
I did write Winston to double check if it is supposed to refresh them and then
show the authors, but I suspect the answer is going to be no.
Since Bookshare shows the author as first name, last name, when you sort by
author, it sorts by first name.

We all know how accessible the Sonos iOS app is. Unfortunately the Mac

RE: The final chapter, was: The story continues... Long lost iPhone 6S has finally resurfaced after snow melt

2016-04-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Connie,

I actually sort of hope it doesn’t start working. While everything else seems
to work, one never knows if being exposed to such low temperatures and all that
isn’t going to cause problems down the road. I have to do a bit more testing,
but last night when I came home the battery was dead. I had charged the phone
all the way on Friday afternoon and it was basically just sitting there locked
for 24 hours so I wonder if the battery was damaged maybe by being frozen to
-40 degrees. I charged it again over night and right now (a little less than 2
hours) the battery percentage is sitting at 97% which doesn’t seem strange.
I’ll use it today to listen to Audible quite a bit and see where it is later
this afternoon or eveing. Since the phone has a SIM which is not activated it
is basically an iPod Touch right now and it really shouldn’t use up that much
battery just for audio playback.

yesterday the package with my iPhone 6S packed in rice arrived. Externally it
looks brand new with not a scratch on it. When I took out the SIM tray it
seemed like there was maybe a bit of moisture there so I left out the SIM tray
and stuck the iPhone in my toaster oven on a really low temperature for a
couple of hours just to maybe expel a bit more moisture from inside.

After that the moment came and I plugged it in. My wife was there and we
quietly watched, but the screen remained black. After about 2 minutes there was
no change and I thought that answered the question as to whether the iPhone was
still working after having been lying on the ground outside for 115 days, first
in snow and temperatures of up to -40 Celsius/Fahrenheit and as warm as +20
Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) and of course having gone through the process when the
snow and ice around it melted and so on. It was also exposed to the sun, back
in March there was another 10 inches of new snow over the course of a week and
in the week or two before my brother found it on April 15 it had rained lightly
a few times.

Anyhow, I left it plugged in and when I came back to my office 2 hours later I
thought I check it out. I pressed the home button and bingo, Voiceover was
there and asked me to enter my passcode. I did so and the phone unlocked. There
was of course no service since I got a new SIM back in December when I lost it
and I had also just installed a new router at my store so I had to reconnect to
WiFi. As soon as I did so the phone started dinging and binging away as emails
came in, push notification alerts sounded and on top of all that it started
playing the lost sound since back on December 22 we logged in to my iCloud
account and triggered the Find my iPhone sound in case I had just dropped it
somewhere in the house.

At that point it had charged up to 82% and everything seemed totally normal. I
went to Settings > General > Software Update and since I registered this phone
on the public beta program, I was told iOS 9.3.2 public beta 2 was available
for download. I started the download and it downloaded the 1.2 Gb file in about
14 minutes, after that the upgrade proceeded normally and the phone was up and
running again in about 12 minutes.

So, happy ending, right? Well, almost. Shortly after I finished the update one
of my employees walked in to ask me something. I happily told her “Look, the
iPhone that was lying in the snow for 4 months is working”. I held it up and
swiped around and Voiceover was chattering. Then she said “OK, but what about
the screen”. I asked “Why, what about the screen” and she said that it was
totally and utterly black. At first I thought that was no problem, maybe the
screen curtain was on. I did a 3-finger triple tap, but to my dismay Voiceover
said “Screen curtain on” and not “off”. I did it again and Voiceover confirmed
the screen curtain was now off. I checked the brightness and even increased it
to 100%, but she said it just

So, I guess for the time it’s now truly an iPhone for the blind, it works
perfectly, I made a Skype call on it to my Mom and both speaker and microphones
seem to work just fine, but the screen seems to be not working. It will be
interesting to see if in the next few days it comes back. Anyhow, it so happens
that my wife and I have to go to Vancouver next week so I’ll take it an Apple
Store and get it replaced since I have Apple Care Plus and it’s of course
totally worth it to pay the $130 Canadian which is what an accidental damage
replacement costs. Let’s hope the screen doesn’t start working by then *smile*

The end.

Sieghard

Maybe I should have read all the emails first, but you do not pair your focus
14 under Bluetooth. You have to go to General and then accessibility and go
under braille. Have you tried that already? If so, go ahead and close your
settings and restart your phone. A lot of times that helps.

Re: The final chapter, was: The story continues... Long lost iPhone 6S has finally resurfaced after snow melt

2016-04-24 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Sieghard,

Congratulations! Something that strikes me though, is: between now and the time
that you get the screen replaced, will you use the phone and discover if your
battery life is greatly extended? in the past, we have all discussed the
efficacy of the screen curtain as a battery life saver, Some saying it makes
no difference and some saying it does. my position, for what it is worth, is
that it does make a difference based on the following: I have a case for my
phone which has a fold over flap which covers the screen, if I am listening to
a book, say, at night, using earphones, I have the phone with the screen flap
closed under my pillow, if I have the screen curtain off, the phone gets very
warm. if I have the screen curtain on, phone gets noticeably less warm. as heat
is an indication of expended energy, I can only assume that less energy is
being used by the phone. so, with your screen not working at all, we have the
perfect opportunity to discover just what difference the screen makes for
battery life. if it makes a substantial difference, it might be worth thinking
about putting in an application to Apple to give us the toggle of turning the
screen, completely, off.

just a thought, Sandy

Hello,

Yes its available from the app store. Just search for vorail and it should be
the only app that shows up in the results. I have it downloaded but I don't
have it set up yet. I am going to work on that this week.

2016-04-24 Thread Greg Wocher

Hello,

Yes its available from the app store. Just search for vorail and it
should be the only app that shows up in the results. I have it
downloaded but I don't have it set up yet. I am going to work on that
this week.

That’s amazing that your iPhone is still working after all that time and the
different types of weather it was exposed to. At least you can still use it.

Subject: The final chapter, was: The story continues... Long lost iPhone 6S has
finally resurfaced after snow melt

Hi everybody,

Finally, here is the long awaited last chatper of my lost iPhone story.

yesterday the package with my iPhone 6S packed in rice arrived.

I checked the brightness and even increased it
to 100%, but she said it just was showing a completely black screen.

The end.

Regards,

Sieghard

In order to get authors to show up, do we have to tap the repair library button

Re: Audible one more

2016-04-24 Thread Richard Turner

You can use Safari to shop on the Audible site on your device, or any web
browser you choose on your device or computer.
If you think you will be buying at least 12 books over the next 12 months, then
you may want to look at the Gold membership, and if you think you will do 24
books, the platinum membership might be for you. Also note, that if you pay for
the whole membership on an annual basis, the per credit price goes down a
little more, plus you can buy several books at once instead of once a month.
Most books cost 1 credit when you have a membership. The Gold membership, for
example, is $14.95 per month, or $149.50 for 12 credits which are good for 12
months.
So you save about $30 if you pay for it annually.
You can also buy a $10 membership that gives you a discount on any books you
buy, but you're still going to pay a lot more for each title than with the
other memberships. You may want to call them and talk it over. They are quite
helpful on the phone.

Just to say you can’t delete iBooks as it is now part of iOS as of version 8.

Hello Terri,

You are quite correct, you cannot make any purchases through the Audible app.
So, go to Audible.com and from there you can either sign up for a subscription
or purchase a title.

I have one more question, concerning the audible app.
I am now signed up. I even put a book on my wish list. However, it states that
you cannot make purchases through the app.
So does this mean that I have to go to audible.com on my computer, and pay for
a subscription. Then I can get my book?

Thank you for any help!
