Issue with the Capital One Mobile app

2019-03-08 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Hello list,

So recently, I opened up a Capital One 360 checking account. I already have
a couple of credit cards with them and have used the iPhone app with no
VoiceOver issues. Reviewing purchases, making payments, etc.

Even opening and setting up the checking account was super easy via the
phone.

Anyway, After I got the account open, I poked around the app and for the
life of me, couldn’t find anywhere that had an option to locate an ATM
nearby. I live on the West Coast so the AllPoint ATM network was going to be
my only option for things like depositing cash or withdraws. I was able to
do this search via Safari, but thought it odd that such a feature was
nowhere to be found from within the app itself.

I did a chat with Capital One this morning and outlined and explained the
above. The rep said that there is indeed a locate an ATM/branch feature at
the bottom of the screen. For me, it’s only my accounts, followed by their
creditwise product, an option to set a budge for credit card spending, a
faded out button to try the budget thing and then the two tabs at the very
bottom of the screen (Home and Profile).

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, turned off WIFI and tried to see if
it would show up while on data and no go. I even had my sighted wife look at
it and nope. It wasn’t some VoiceOver thing where VO wasn’t seeing it. She
didn’t see the ATM locator option either.

So on we went through all these steps and while she said she’d let the “tech
team” know, she also wanted me to try resetting location settings. Yeah. I
didn’t feel like doing that at that time.

I even later tried downloading the same app onto my iPhone SE that I use for
work and same deal, No ATM/branch locator anywhere.

So after my long soliloquy, may I ask, is anyone else using the Capital One
mobile app for checking and do they in fact have this ATM/branch locator
option available to them?

I find it odd that it’s not appearing on either my XR or SE. I’m running the
latest iOS and app update too.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Re: subscribing to YouTube channels

2019-03-08 Thread 'Starboy' via VIPhone

This is answer is extremely relative.
Some channels will demand you to pay in order to watch their videos,
while others won't, but you can become a member as they're calling the
new features.
By becoming a member, even though others (and you) don't need to pay for
watching the channel's videos, it means you'll have a monthly price to
pay to help the channel and its owner.

swipe through to the title of the video, VoiceOver will say "Actions
available," after it reads the video's title and how many views it has gotten since
creation. to subscribe to a channel, flick up or down to Subscribe and do a 1 finger

I haven't used this way in a while so may not have that quite right. I usually
find the video's title, flick up or down to subscribe, and double tap.
VoiceOver should tell you that you are now subscribed. To verify, swipe up or
down again and you should hear unsubscribe. When looking at a list of search
results, you may also find subscribe buttons after a channel's name. In this
case, double tap the name and you will be subscribed. I use the YouTube app at
least once a day, and rarely view videos on the computer anymore.

Good luck,

Hi Carolyn:

I also used that speaker from Blind Treasures for many years. Worked very well.

First, you need to download the Bard mobile app from the app store. You will
need to put in your NLS library user name and password to set it up.
Instead of downloading books directly to your stream you add books to your wish
list. Your wish list will show up in the app and you download the books from
there.

You can always practice this first.
Just call your husband or some automated number where you maybe have to enter
your credit card or account number. Just before you are ready to call ask SIRI
to set a 30 second time or a 1 minute timer if you think you need that much
time. Then once the timer I srunning place the call and then wait until the
timer goes off and see if pressing the home button works, it should.

There are at least 3 different ways to deal with this, the easiest is to simply
press the home button, it will stop the timer and return you to the call.
Pushing either the volume up or down buttons once will have a similar effect,
it will stop the sound of the timer, but it will leave the banner up on the
screen.
If you are able you can also touch near the top left of the phone, at the very
top is the signal strength and your provider, just underneath is where
notification banners show up and it will say "Clock, now, timer"
You can double tap on that and it stops the sound and opens the timer or you
can swipe up or down on this banner and you get the following options:
Clear
More
Activate
Double tapping on clear will also stop it.
As I said, pushing the volume up or down buttons stops it, but that "clock, now
timer" is still there, normally if you are on a call and you for example press
the home button to go out of the phone app to the home screen it will show
"Touch to return to call" up there. If you are using a headset or are on
speakerphone you might be on a call and want to look up something for the
person you speak with, maybe somebody's phone number. You can then press Home
to go to your home screen which will not disconnect the call, you can then open
say the Contacts app and do whatever you want to do and if you want to return
to the call that is in progress you can do that by touching up near the top
left where it says "Touch to return to call". You have to find it since you
can't swipe to it, it's above your top left app and below the provider
information in the status bar.
You can also return to the call by double pressing the home button to bring up
the app switcher and there will be an item called "Phone call with" and that is
followed by either the number or, if the number is in your contacts, by the
word "Active".
But just remember, when in doubt, press the home button.

Regards,
Sieghard

Yesterday I had my phone timer set for 20 minutes. About half way through, I
got a phone call from a person, that when she calls, there's no getting out
quickly. So, the timer went off. Finally, I told her I needed to see if I could
stop it, because it just was not quitting. Naturally, two-finger double hung up
the call, but it also turned off the timer all in one whack. So, I had to call
her back.

Question: what should I do in the future if timer on and call comes? Thanks.

If you pray, don't worry; if you worry, don't pray,

RE: Question about using Blue Tooth in my hearing aids with an iPhone SE.

2019-03-08 Thread Carolyn Arnold
It is hard to hear on the Stream speaker. I didn't know and do use headphones
on Stream and computer. I do have a speaker I bought from Blind Treasures that
I use back in the bathroom, but our apartment is small, and I have to consider
distractions to my very forbearing husband.

Hi Carolyn:

What do you use now to listen to your Stream? You are not suppose to use
headphones while you have your aids in. At least, that is what I was told.

My Stream was the first generation, so it had a very tiny speaker and was
almost impossible to hear without headphones or ear buds. So, I was almost
forced to use the mobile app, but was very happy I did.

Carolyn:

I sold my Victor Stream when I got my blue tooth hearing aids and went to the
BARD mobile app. Just your phone to carry around.

Actually, the BARD mobile app is very easy to learn.

There is a BARD mobile app user's guide available online. I will send you the
link if you decide you want to try it. You can still keep your Stream and work
with the app until you feel comfortable with it.

Hi Carolyn,

I actually just purchased at a con hearing aids last Friday. I’m impressed with
them also. The only problem I have is it it takes a while to connect to
Bluetooth and I’m going to speak with my audiologist about that when I go for a
follow up appointment in about 10 days. As far as the phone calls are
concerned, it just works the way it supposed to. Once you are connected to
Bluetooth, you will hear all phone calls right through the aids. It’s really
nice. You may have to adjust the volume, but once you’ve done that, it should
hold and you should be all set. Good luck.

Re: Doing US taxes independently, is it possible?

2019-03-08 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
Ms. Schneider et al,

In the past I had used TaxAct on my Windows PC and it was definitely completely
accessible via JAWS. After losing all my vision, I had hesitated to continue
doing my own tax preparation because I was redisent about trusting the OCR to
accurately identify digits - very important in tax preparation.

You have piqued my interest in trying to do the task myself once again. The
TaxAct people do have an iOS app available in the App Store and I installed it
on my iPhone 6 last night. I am going to give it a go and see how accurately
the modern OCR is and whether or not the TaxAct app is as accessible as the
Windows software package happened to be. I may even look into checking for a
MacOS version of TaxAct.

My younger brother has a tax preparation business in Ashland and I’ve had him
do this for me since 1996 (lost all my vision in April, 1995).

I will offer an analysis here after trying it out!
