RE: Siri won't give me time to ask a question

2019-08-05 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
Not running a beta, but I do notice that if I’ve got my phone in my pocket and
either press the home button for Siri to come up or say hey Siri, and don’t
pull the phone out of my pocket quick enough, I’ll get that second beep
notification that the dictation window has stopped. This isn’t the case if the
phone’s on my desk or flat on the table etc. Maybe it’s got something to do
with the motion sensor to avoid accidentally triggering Siri or something.

Sorry, I didn’t check carefully and thought this was the Apple Beta list I am
also on as is Richard.

Anyways, there is no point in getting too upset, iOS 13 is in Beta and a number
of things don’t work correctly as is often the case with Beta software. It is
quite possible l be fixed and there is again the SIRI sound when you push the
home button, yes, if you say Hey SIRI the sound is there. I’ll now say no more
on this list about the Beta.

option in the Messages app. Is the credit card also associated with
Apple Pay? Can someone give me a run-down on how the service works?

Yeah this is tough, LOL. With the sale, they’re $200 difference.

So when you say you can sync it, does it give you any data that an Apple
Watch wouldn’t already pick up? Obviously my watch is going to record it as
activity. But my sister thought it might be more strength training than
aerobic.

Well, I know my Mom’s experience and maybe that is because one border collie
probably produces a lot more fur than 3 cats, also I guess it depends on the
size of the house and how much stuff you have. I have been there when my Mom
had her Neato running and sometimes there is no explanation why it goes where
it goes, here it seems to do the main open area of the living room in an
efficient pattern only to suddenly drive off to vacuum in front of the couch
where it drives back and forth more than it needs to and then it goes off into
the kitchen or elsewhere only to come back in the living room and do some of
what it did before all over again. Maybe it can’t get it’s orientation right,
my parents house is a log home and the living room has a 16 or 18 foot vaulted
ceiling, my Mom says often when it’s in her bedroom which at about 25 feet by
15 feet is also large, it does a better job than in the rest of the house.

It really is easy to clean though. We have 3 cats and in their favorite hangout
rooms, the fur does accumulate enough to dump the dirt bin and clean the
brushes. However this is very quick and easy. the reason the fur fills the bin
and roller so quickly is because the Neato does such an outstanding job of
sucking up pet hair. There is no comparison to the huge amount of hair picked
up by our Neato with that picked up by our old powerful industrial class
upright! We love the amazing mapping feature of our Neato also compared to the
“bump and turn” random motion of others. The mapping allows Neato to finish a
job in a fraction of the time of the round bounce-off-the-walls-and-furniture”
type. And… it’s quiet!

The claim of “easy to clean” is debatable. My Mom has one and while her border
collie has now gone to doggie heaven, when she still had him she said she
pretty much had to take the thing apart after at least every cleaning/use and
completely clean out the brushes and everything or it would not function
properly. In fact, I used to want one of these but after her experience I
decided these were maybe not quite ready for prime time.

Neato robotic vacuums set to get Siri Shortcuts in the fall By Amber Neely
Friday, August 02, 2019, 04:49 am PT (07:49 am ET)

Neato, a company that specializes in robotic vacuums, has announced that it
will be adding in support for Siri shortcuts in the fall. If you've got
yourself a Neato vacuum, soon you'll be able to use Siri Shortcuts for remote
control. Users will be able to issue voice commands to tell their Neato vacuum
to begin a preset cleaning cycle, stop cleaning, or set up shortcuts to tell
the vacuum to clean a specific area. Users will also be able to send the vacuum
to the charging base via Siri Shortcut as well. If you're not the type to talk
to your vacuum, the Neato robot vacuum will attempt to to learn when and where
to sweep and offer lock-screen suggestions. There's no specific time frame for
when this update will release. Neato has stated this update will roll out with
a firmware update set to release this fall, likely following the release of iOS
13 and macOS Catalina. All of Neato's current vacuums are set to get the
update. Neato vacuums currently work with myriad services, including an Apple
Watch app, Wear OS services, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and even through
Facebook Messenger. Siri Shortcuts debuted in iOS 12 in 2018 . The system was
built from Workflow, an app that Apple purchased in 2017 , Shortcuts delivers
app and system control options through a drag-and-drop card UI, that can be

It really is easy to clean though. We have 3 cats and in their favorite
hangout rooms, the fur does accumulate enough to dump the dirt bin and clean
the brushes. However this is very quick and easy. the reason the fur fills
the bin and roller so quickly is because the Neato does such an outstanding
job of sucking up pet hair. There is no comparison to the huge amount of
hair picked up by our Neato with that picked up by our old powerful
industrial class upright! We love the amazing mapping feature of our Neato
also compared to the “bump and turn” random motion of others. The mapping
allows Neato to finish a job in a fraction of the time of the round
bounce-off-the-walls-and-furniture” type. And… it’s quiet!

The claim of “easy to clean” is debatable. My Mom has one and while her
border collie has now gone to doggie heaven, when she still had him she said
she pretty much had to take the thing apart after at least every
cleaning/use and completely clean out the brushes and everything or it would
not function properly. In fact, I used to want one of these but after her
experience I decided these were maybe not quite ready for prime time.

Neato robotic vacuums set to get Siri Shortcuts in the fall By Amber Neely
Friday, August 02, 2019, 04:49 am PT (07:49 am ET)

Neato, a company that specializes in robotic vacuums, has announced that
it will be adding in support for Siri shortcuts in the fall. If you've got
yourself a Neato vacuum, soon you'll be able to use Siri Shortcuts for
remote control. Users will be able to issue voice commands to tell their
Neato vacuum to begin a preset cleaning cycle, stop cleaning, or set up
shortcuts to tell the vacuum to clean a specific area. Users will also be
able to send the vacuum to the charging base via Siri Shortcut as well. If
you're not the type to talk to your vacuum, the Neato robot vacuum will
attempt to to learn when and where to sweep and offer lock-screen
suggestions. There's no specific time frame for when this update will
release. Neato has stated this update will roll out with a firmware update
set to release this fall, likely following the release of iOS 13 and macOS
Catalina. All of Neato's current vacuums are set to get the update. Neato
vacuums currently work with myriad services, including an Apple Watch app,
Wear OS services, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and even through Facebook
Messenger. Siri Shortcuts debuted in iOS 12 in 2018 . The system was built
from Workflow, an app that Apple purchased in 2017 , Shortcuts delivers app
and system control options through a drag-and-drop card UI, that can be
invoked by Siri. AppleInsider reviewed the Neato Botvac Connected back in
2016, and found it to be one of the best robot vacuum cleaners available on
the market. In addition to offering controls via iPhone and Apple Watch, it
also supports complex scheduling functions, cleans very well, and is easy to
empty and clean. .

2019-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, I didn’t check carefully and thought this was the Apple Beta list I am
also on as is Richard.
Anyways, there is no point in getting too upset, iOS 13 is in Beta and a number
of things don’t work correctly as is often the case with Beta software. It is
quite possible l be fixed and there is again the SIRI sound when you push the
home button, yes, if you say Hey SIRI the sound is there. I’ll now say no more
on this list about the Beta.

It can capture a little more accurately than the watch. It’s not meant to be in
depth cardio, I can certainly get sweaty while using it, but it’s not meant for
that. It’s more meant to keep you active throughout the day.

RE: Sonos and Ikea partner up - the result: Symfonisk WiFi Table lamp and bookshelf Speakers

2019-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fanus,

No, the Google Assistant is relatively new to Sonos and you must add it to the
Sonos One. You must also have the Google Assistant app on your phone to
complete the setup.

Yes, Canada is very large, after Russia it is the second largest country in the
world and one of the least populated, total population is about 37 Million
compared to I believe a bit over 56 Million for South Africa.
As for size, Canada has 9,985,000 square Kilometers, Russia is still a lot
larger at just over 17 Million square kilometers, the US comes in at 9,834,000
square kilometers so not all that much different from Canada.
South Africa has a bit over 1.2 Million square kilometers which is slightly
larger than the province of British Columbia where I live which is 944,735
square kilometers but with a population of only just under 5 Million and 80% of
them live in the Vancouver area and Vancouver Island. I live in a small town
called Smithers in northwestern British Columbia with a population of about
6,000, driving distance to Vancouver is about 1,200 Km and it’s about 400 Km to
the next larger city with a population of about 60,000. The coordinates are
54.7824 degrees North and 127.1686 degrees West. Strictly in terms of latitude
we are a bit further north than Hamburg Germany which is northern Germany,
Moscow in Russia is maybe a degree or so (100 Km) further North. 40% of
Canada’s land mass are made of up our 3 northern Territories, Yukon, Northwest
and Nunavut, combined population in those approx. 3.8 Million square kilometers
is less than 120,000 and of those almost half live in the capital cities of
each of those territories.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hello Sieghard
Thanks for the info. Alexa is not yet available here but your instructions for
volume up and down and play and pause are spot on. Is google assistant built
into the Sonos One or must I set it up? Bye the way, I am very interested in
location of places so I did not realize that Canada is such a large country.
What are your coordinates so that I can locate it in my mind and then it lets
me imagine I can “see” your town. I use my perkins brailler and coordinates to
make maps of countries and although the scale is not 100% I get a fair
indication of locations. I have not yet made a Canada map but I would like to
plot your town when I get to the Canada map.

Hi Fanus,

No, I have not heard either the Ikea bookshelf or speaker/lamp. The next Ikea
for me is in Vancouver which is 1,200 Km away. If I get to Vancouver or another
ccity with an Ikea next time I’ll try to find the time to check them out.

I don’t use the touch controls on the Sonos One much except for maybe turning
the volume up or down or to pause playback if Alexa or the Google Assistant
fail to hear me. I can usually do the volume fairly consistently, the area you
touch is about half way from front to back and towards the left edge of the
speaker is volume down and towards the right edge is volume up. Play/Pause is
in the middle.
Towards the back of the speaker I think about in the middle left to right is a
button which let’s you turn off the microphone and I think there maybe one
which you can press to make the assistant listen in case you don’t want to say
the wake word.

Sieghard

which integrates into your Sonos system from Ikea. You can even get a table
lamp with a built-in speaker. These don’t appear

Yeah this is tough, LOL. With the sale, they’re $200 difference.

So when you say you can sync it, does it give you any data that an Apple Watch
wouldn’t already pick up? Obviously my watch is going to record it as activity.
But my sister thought it might be more strength training than aerobic.

RE: Experience with the App for the Cubii Under Desk Elliptical Trainer

2019-08-05 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
So as I understand it, the only difference in the two machines is the app
support. If that’s true, do you think having the app is worthwhile or would you
be just as happy with the machine by itself. I know that’s always subjective,
but I’m really struggling with this.

It takes only a couple of minutes to empty the bin and clean the brushes. This

That is to bad. I have read a lot of reviews about them and they are pretty
favorable. With having several cats and dogs, that was my complaint about the
Roomba's I had as well. Cleaning the brushes and roller took more time then
the vacuuming did.

The system was
built from Workflow, an app that Apple purchased in 2017 , Shortcuts delivers
app and system control options through a drag-and-drop card UI, that can be
invoked by Siri. AppleInsider reviewed the Neato Botvac Connected back in 2016,
and found it to be one of the best robot vacuum cleaners available on the
market. In addition to offering controls via iPhone and Apple Watch, it also
supports complex scheduling functions, cleans very well, and is easy to empty
and clean. .

The z is to the right of the shift key on the left side.
If you find the a, slide down just a little and if you land on shift, slide

RE: help with ipnhone eight

2019-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What keyboard/language did you install? I know that on the German keyboard
layout and maybe the UK as well (not sure about that) the letters Z and Y are
switched, e.g. on a German keyboard the Z is where the Y is on the US keyboard
and the Y is what the Z is.

The z is to the right of the shift key on the left side.
If you find the a, slide down just a little and if you land on shift, slide
right just a very little.

If you are flicking, then good luck,
Richard

Re: No one use VPN?

2019-08-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. I don't use VPN often, but have tried 2 that work well.
Windscribe and Tunnel Bear are both free. Windscribe offers up to 10
gigs free if you enter your email address. Tunnel Bear offers up to
500 megabytes for free I think, but it is easy to setup and meant to
offer a lot of features and protection with not a lot of fuss, for
those who want a simple experience. Both are accessible and work
fairly well.

Good luck,
Wayne

that if you use hey siri, that you still hear the siri sound. I use

Re: An interesting conversion in the company name field of a contact

2019-08-05 Thread englishrider91
I always just put the name of the company in the first name field, and things
usually work for me. Well, I usually put the city in the first name field in
parentheses, particularly if it's something common, like Stop and Shop, a
grocery store here in Massachusetts. Otherwise, Siri will start trying to find
places by doing an internet search, rather than calling the number listed in my
contacts. This thing of putting the city in the first name field also works
well for me since sometimes I have more than one of the same store in my
contacts, just in a different city, and I like to know right away, without
going into the contact, which one I'm looking at.

Thanks,
Ari

Sieghard, there really is no more Siri sound unless you wear a headset? I think
this is kind of a stupid move on Apple's part. Did they at least replace the
auditory feedback with a vibration or something? Sheesh, Apple!

 Hello list
When I activate Siri and start to ask a question she just plays the

 anyone experienced this?

RE: Sonos and Ikea partner up - the result: Symfonisk WiFi Table lamp and bookshelf Speakers

2019-08-05 Thread Fanus Buys

Regards,

Sieghard

Hello Sieghard

Thanks for informing us. Have you perhaps hat a chance to listen to an Ikea
Speaker to compare the quality with Sonos? Secondly, can you please remind me
and others of the touch buttons and swipes one can use on the Sonos One speaker?

Regards

bookshelf Speakers

For the Sonos fans out there who haven’t heard yet, you can now buy a speaker
which integrates into your Sonos system from Ikea. You can even get a table
lamp with a built-in speaker. These don’t appear to integrate with Alexa or
Google Home or anything like that, but at $149 and $249 Canadian, respectively,
the bookshelf speakers and table lamp aren’t exactly what I would consider all
that expensive. I assume in the US this will translate into $119 and $179 or
$189, respectively.

The bookshelf speakers are a foot tall, 4 inches wide and 6 inches deep and you
can get a wall bracket for a mere $15 and a speaker hook for $10, it allows you
to hang the speakers of a rail like some of the systems you can find for in the
kitchen where you install a continuous rail under your upper counters and you
can then hang utensils off it or get various shelves, paper towel holders etc.
You can read all about it below:

Symfonisk

  WiFi Speakers

Best regards,

Sieghard

RE: Siri won't give me time to ask a question

2019-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

You don't have to hold the home button. It's a bit of a pain in iOS 13 because
unless you use a headset there is no SIRI sound, but I usually just press and
hold the home button for maybe 2 seconds, then I tell SIRI what I want and it
works fine.

You have to hold the home button if you are not using Hey Siri, unless you know
a setting I do not.
Also, that sounds to me like a resource issue" Clear everything from the app
switcher, and reboot the phone.
If all else fails, call Apple Accessibility 877-204-3930
