Definitely not the time to share an under-the-tongue thermometer these days if
multiple people in your household are using it. I guess you could disinfect it
each time somebody used it, but the contactless thermometers are definitely a
better option right now and probably even if there weren’t a COVID-19 virus,
after all, if you think you have a fever you probably want to avoid giving
whatever causes it to anybody else. Of course that is not an issue if you are
only 1 person who uses it.

The Kinsa is an under the tongue thermometer. At least, the older model I have
is and I’m pretty sure the Bluetooth one is as well.

There is also the “Thermo” from Nokia Health formerly Withings.

Below are links, first to the Withings website directly, then to the Canadian
Apple, Amazon and Best Buy, after that the US Apple Store, Amazon, Best Buy and
Walmart. Finally I put the links for the Thermo app on both the Canadian and US
App Stores. The only problem is that it seems you are not going to be able to
find one since they show as sold out everywhere or, in the case of Amazon, as
“currently unavailable”, I guess that is probably a result of COVID-19.

I haven’t checked, but that may very well be the case for the Kinsa thermometer
as well.

The Thermo, by the way, connects via WiFi, not Bluetooth. we have had ours for
probably 3 years or a bit longer and I hadn’t used it until recently for about
2 years because just before Christmas 2017 was the only and last time I was
sick with the flu and a fever in probably 10 years.

I did use it a bit more often recently just checking myself since I do have a
retail store and am out in public every day. I realized I hadn’t even connected
it yet to my iPhone 8 which I got a year and a half ago, but as before the
connection was easy and quick and after signing in to the app with my user name
and password my wife’s and my own profiles showed up and I could still see the
measurements I took back in 2017.

It is an app that I've recommended off and on over the years when folks are
looking for a good app for doing group emails.
IT can be used to do texting groups, but as Jim discovered, you cannot hide
names or numbers from the other recipients when texting.
Here is the app store link if you want to read more about it.

Does anyone use the ABC Group app

2020-04-11 Thread Jim Portillo
Good evening,
I just learned about the ABC group app and downloaded. I’m creating groups,
and love the ability to have groups I can text. Here’s a question though. Is
there a way for the group of people that I created not to see one another’s
phone numbers when I text them? Or, if I use the option of using first and
last names in place of phone numbers, will they see them as well? Still
figuring everything out here.

Well, in the case of the no touch thermometers, I would not assume they are
not returnable, but of course, one who buys an item without checking first if
that item is returnable, takes a risk.

I always check first before ordering anything online.

Are all of the ones mentioned with apps under the tongue or scanning type

The Thermo also has a display where a sighted person can instantly read the
result, otherwise you can get the result inside the app about 15 or so seconds
after the reading is complete.
There is one single button. You press it once and the thermometer makes a small
vibration which means it’s ready. You have to be a little bit quick and have it
ready pointing to the middle of your forehead about half an inch or so away
from your skin since the measuring starts right away after the vibration and
only lasts for about 4 or 5 seconds.
It reads the temperature contactless, as soon as it vibrates you smoothly move
it from the middle of your forehead to your temple and stop there, the Thermo
will vibrate twice to indicate it has finished the reading.
After you do this a few times you quickly get the hang of how fast you have to
move it across your forehead so you get to your temple just before the second
double vibration.
Even if you take a reading without the Thermo app open you soon get a
notification that a new temperature reading is available, if you double tap on
that notification the app opens and shows the profiles you have set up.
In our case it shows “Me” which is me and it shows “Jackie” which is my wife.
Above that it then shows an unassigned reading, if you double tap on that
Voiceover reads out the date, time and the temperature and you can then double
tap on whichever profile you want to assign that reading to. It’s very
accessible, very

I am not familiar if the model from Independent Living is fully automated, but
the Qardio is, it has batteries and all you have to do is put it on, then sit
back and relax and with your other hand tap the start button in the app. It
will then inflate and do everything automatically. You can even set it to do 3
measurements and it will then take the average.

Hello friends.

I apologise if this topic has been discussed but I have a particular reason for
asking advice.

If you will allow me to explain.

I was recently admitted into hospital where I was diagnosed with
Pyelonephritis, and sepsis. During my stay in hospital I was also found to
have an atrial fibrillation. They are not sure whether the heart issue was
caused by the sepsis and I have to undergo further tests.

My Apple Watch can help me check my heart rate, but what options are there for
a totally blind person to check blood pressure.

I would appreciate your recommendations and thank you in advance for them.

Thank you for reading my post too.

vibration which means it’s ready.

Even if you take a reading without the Thermo app open you soon get a
notification that a new temperature reading is available, if you double tap on
that notification

Hi,
I could be wrong but I somehow
suspect that a thermometer might not be returnable being deemed
a personal health item if not before this virus business then
definitely afterwards.
And how lovely of Mary to help her
friend that way though were it me I'd just let her keep the
thermometer especially if it were an under the tongue one.
I have one of the talking infrared
scanning ones. I got it ages ago from the Speak to Me Catalog.
Not sure if they're even open let alone have stock but it's a
neat thing that runs on 2 triple a batteries and can either be
used in ear or on forehead.
Are all of the ones mentioned with
apps under the tongue or scanning type ones? I'm frankly
surprised the Exergen thermometer which is heavily advertised
typically in Winter doesn't make a talking one or have an app
linked thermometer.
Stay well and take good care
everybody.

I haven’t checked, but that may very well be the case for the Kinsa thermometer
as well.

The Thermo, by the way, connects via WiFi, not Bluetooth. we have had ours for

I'm not sure what you mean by noncontact.
But, anyone looking for a thermometer right now is just going to have to keep
looking until they find a supplier that still has some.

A friend asked me about this. According to him access note does not work on

access note which created a list of all the search results so one could decide
which one to read. Is there a replacement for access note with such a similar

Good to know.

The Kinsa is an under the tongue thermometer. At least, the older model I have
is and I’m pretty sure the Bluetooth one is as well.

I’ll keep this info for reference though. Sounds excellent.

Above that it then shows an unassigned reading, if you double tap on that
Voiceover reads out the date, time and the temperature and you can then double
tap on whichever profile you

Thanks much. Do you perhaps know where one can download the manual. I

Yes. Voice Dream Writer, $9.99.
It is way more advanced than AccessNote was. It has a spell checker, search
feature and you can use symbols to provide some formatting and export the file
as RTF.
I highly recommend the person read the manual.

Hello list
A friend asked me about this. According to him access note does not work on
newer iDevices or newer IOS versions. Apparently there was a search function in
access note which created a list of all the search results so one could decide
which one to read. Is there a replacement for access note with such a similar
feature?

It is way more advanced than AccessNote was. It has a spell checker, search
feature and you can use symbols to provide some formatting and export the file
as RTF.
I highly recommend the person read the manual.

Hello list
A friend asked me about this. According to him access note does not work on
newer iDevices or newer IOS versions. Apparently there was a search function in
access note which created a list of all the search results so one could decide
which one to read. Is there a replacement for access note with such a similar
feature?

question - Amazon Echo and playing radio stations

2020-04-11 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hello list,
please, does anyone know if there is a way to make Amazon Echo speaker
play a particular radio station?
It seems there are at least two stations with the identical name and
Alexa always plays the one located in Poland, not in Slovakia which I
want to be played.

I hope my question makes sense.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Maria
