Re: What have I done to my iPhone?

2020-07-31 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope you’re doing well today.
To turn quicknav on or off, you actually press the left and right arrows
simultaneously if using the keyboard on the Mac or other bluetooth keyboards
that work with IOS.

Thanks,

Priscilla

Inaccessible buttons in Facebook app

2020-07-31 Thread John André Lium-Netland
Hi all,

Recently it became impossible to check in on a location with the Facebook app.
If I create a new post and press the Check In button, there is just a bunch of
buttons with no labels coming up. This is where you recently got a list of
places around your current position. If you try to search for a specific place,
the same thing happens. Just a bunch of unlabelled buttons.

Is there a specific address to use when reporting accessibility issues like
this to the Facebook team? I hope they also fix the issue where rooms that are
groups are only shown as unlabelled buttons above the list of posts in the news
stream.

Best,
John André

2020-07-31 Thread Tom Lange
Hi Jim,
I’m not absolutely sure, but my guess is that you accidentally turned Quick Nav
on. As soon as I opened this reply to your message, I turned Quick Nav on and
there was no way to type in the message body without being bounced out of the
edit field. It’s been a while since I’ve done this with a bluetooth keyboard
(I’m typing on my Braille Sense U2 at the moment), but, if memory serves, you
can press the up and down arrows simultaneously and that should turn Quick Nav
on or off.
I hope that helps.

Hi there,

I don’t know what I did, but my iPhone will no longer allow me to type when
using a Bluetooth keyboard. I have two different ones paired, and both give me

Does anyone have any idea what I might’ve done and how I can correct? Whatever

Outlook and IOS Callander synchronisation.

2020-07-31 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello friends.

A friend of mine has just got his first iPhone.

As I don’t use Outlook’s Callander I am not in a position to help him.

He is using the Outlook application that’s part of Microsoft Office as supposed
to an outlook.com account.

He has entries in his Outlook Callander that are in his Personal Folder.

He would like to synchronise these entries with his new iPhone.

I have attempted to synchronise via ITunes and I have installed ICloud for
Windows and selected synchronisation preferences there too.

However, none of his Outlook Callander entries have been transferred over to
his iPhone.

Any suggestions welcome.

I can replicate this for Voicemail locking up the phone, or at least make it

What I have had to do is to not open the voicemail, but flick down to share,
send it as a text message to myself, then play it in the messages app.

Hi Everyone,
Since I downloaded iOS 13.6 on my xr phone, a couple of weeks ago, When ever
I attempt to listen to a voice mail message, voice over completely stops
talking, I sometimes do get to hear the voice mail message, but I can't hear
anything else. I can't swipe up to close the phone app, I can't turn the
phone off, I do feel some kind of vibration on the back of the phone though,
and this goes on for several minutes, until all the sudden, voice over comes
back on. Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, one more thing to learn.

ON my 5 and Six when notifications would occur they would speak the
notifications whether in the holster or not. On my SE it is speaking the
notifications when the phone is out of the holster but when in the holster I
hear the notification sounds but it does not speak the notification.

I checked and I have show previews set to always. I also have speak
notifications set to on.

Any other ideas what I can do so it will speak notifications even when inside
the holster?

Thanks.

RE: Exercise bikes

2020-07-31 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I know that some bikes be they accessible or not have built in heart rate
monitors in sections of the handle bars,

I think these bikes though are more likely not accessible to you

Your best bet would be to contact a company that sells exercise bikes and would
be able to give you more information on what the different bikes can do.

I use my apple watch and also a Bluetooth heart rate monitor which goes around
my chest,

The watch keeps track of hr and movements within the apple ios system,

but the TKIP hr monitor talks to an app from wahoo which is on my iphone
using Bluetooth
the app also can talk to any other apps you have for picking up data from your
cycle.

As I say it's best to talk to the sellers and find out what the bikes can do
and therefore if they will suit what you are wanting to do.

Good luck.

Simon, do you know about the accessibility part of it? Idealy if it were
possible, in an app it would be really great if I could keep track of my heart
rate, keeping track of the number of miles and anything else that I can't
remember now that my friend and I use to keep track of when we rode the
exercise bikes in an apartment building where I lived about 7 years ago.
I think the other item we kept track of was the speed. Anyway for some
individuals the distance in miles may not be important, but to my friend and I
it was interesting to keep track of as well as the other details.

If you have lots of money to spend,

There is a range of cycle machines that utilise real bikes and also use iPads
to allow the riders to cycle virtually with each other through the app on the
ipad,

They have just done this with the Tour de France this year due to covid,

Very very coold systems but not cheap.

Also, if you already have an exercise bike, like this WSJ article points out,
you can adapt it to have Internet connectivity.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/peloton-schmelotonheres-how-to-turn-your-bike-into-a-connected-workout-station-11595163600?mod=pls_whats_news_us_business_f
Caveats of levels of accessibility apply and all that.
Like anything, just depends on how much you want to spend.
I've got a Nautilus treadmill which has an iOS app. The app is completely VO
accessible, but it's only for reviewing workout stats. They also make a line of
exercise bikes which I'm sure has a similar app set up. If you're looking for
something where you can control or choose a program from within the app, that,
I'm not aware of. If there is a bike like that out there, I'd be interested in
knowing. We've got an old Schwinn recumbent model which works well enough, but
I'd probably want to go for something similar to the Nautilus where I can at
least review my numbers.
Good luck.

Then your looking in the wrong places,

I've seen them here in NZ for around the 2 grand mark but that was a higher end
device,

It really does depend on what it is you are trying to do.

The other thing is you can use a standard bicycle on a cycle erg, So you can
get them so you sit the back wheel on the roller and the wheel is locked in to
place and use the gearing on the bike to change your resistance levels, And
there are some which have resistance on the roller as well.

Or you can get the ergs that you take the front wheel off and lock the forks
on to a bracket that holds the front in place while again the back wheel sits
on a roller and spins as you pedal.

But yes if you have an apple watch it can give you HR and time etc measurements
But you can also get caidence / speed computers that cost very little but have
to be put on the bikes to measue what speed and distances you are cycling.

I have my own road bike on a cycle erg that the back wheel locks in to and I
use gears for resistance, I have my apple watch to measure some things and a
caidance meter to measure speed and RPM from the back wheel, these are fed
into an app on my phone which is from a company called wahoo, and that also
talks to my HR monitor which is again a wahoo device and gives a better reading
than the watch does,

it really depends on what you wantto spend or do as to what it costs you.

When I cycle I take it pretty seriously, but that's just because it's something
I've done for years.
