such an ecosystem. Like an interstate highway system (including bridges,

"ride for free", unlike the highway system, there's no gas tax or other
government subsidies (and one can question if that would be a GoodThing).

Determining what the creator(s) of such an infrastructure "should" charge,

According to what I goq on a search, with iPhones, you have to dictate it by
using the phrase superscript2 which gets you the following symbol which if you
move by character you will hear it read correctly: ²

You can use the select text option to select text, copy it, and
then paste it where you want it.

Text Selection is not on the rotor by default so you have to go
and add it.

IN brief, the way it works is to get to the beginning of the text
you wish to copy, turn the rotor to Text Selection.

Now, flick up or down with one finger through the options,
character, word, line, page, select all.

When you get to the one you want, flick right and that amount of
text will be selected.

Keep flicking until all is selected.

Then, turn the rotor to edit, and flick up or down to copy and
double tap.

Then, go where you want to paste and turn to edit and flick up or
down to paste and double tap.

You can also define custom gestures under VoiceOver settings,
commands.

I set a two finger flick right to paste and a two finger flick
left to copy.

So, once the selection is done I don’t have to use the edit on the
rotor.

Re: Apple is greedy, news!

2020-09-08 Thread Devin Prater
Oh one hand, I would love being able to install any app I want, wether it's
on the App Store or not. That's one of Epic's things. On the other, yeah
all the accessibility work Apple does, making the Siri voices, licensing
the Vocalizer ones, offering free updates and all, yeah that does cost
money.

Where do you go to add text select to rotor?

You cannot create distribution lists on the Contact app with the iPhone.

You can use a third party app, the one I use is called ABC contact Groups.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/abc-groups-group-contacts/id685048714

You can use the select text option to select text, copy it, and then
paste it where you want it.

Text Selection is not on the rotor by default so you have to go and
add it.

IN brief, the way it works is to get to the beginning of the text you
wish to copy, turn the rotor to Text Selection.

Now, flick up or down with one finger through the options, character,
word, line, page, select all.

When you get to the one you want, flick right and that amount of text
will be selected.

Keep flicking until all is selected.

Then, turn the rotor to edit, and flick up or down to copy and double tap.

Then, go where you want to paste and turn to edit and flick up or down
to paste and double tap.

You can also define custom gestures under VoiceOver settings, commands.

I set a two finger flick right to paste and a two finger flick left to
copy.

So, once the selection is done I don’t have to use the edit on the rotor.

I have a couple of iphone questions.

 1.  How do you create a distribution list for sending texts?  I see
groups in my contacts list but I don’t see how to name the group
or put contacts in there.
 2.  How do you cut information in one text message and move it into
another one?

Hi Kathy,

I used to face the same problem with Uber. As a Visually Impaired and having
experienced this pain, I built an App which will allow everything to be done
with just voice commands. With this, you can simply use a command and can
either message or call the driver and don't have to go through a whole lot of
trouble to simply find the option to message the driver. Just see Louie in
action here -

Thanks. Before that very brief window I was allowed, I could only bring up the
drivers name and when I double tapped on it, expecting the contact options, I
could only read his profile and what people said about him.

This is just a possibility, but since Audible was acquired by Amazon, you can
sign in with either your old user ID or with the Amazon sign-in. Check to see
which one you’re being asked for on the dialog that comes up. I had this issue
when they first switched to the new way of downloading books. The irritating
thing is, they ask you to authorize your system every time you download a book

To Heck with that. That is very annoying. With the old audible
manager, I just had to activate my desktop computer one time and I
could play any audible book I downloaded on my computer if I wanted.

Subject: Help With Audible

Hello listers,

I realize this is off topic, but I’m hoping someone can help.

For some reason, when I download a book from audible with my pc, I can’t
activate my computer, none of the forms read with Jaws, I know I’m entering the
correct information, but I keep getting a message to either enter my username
of password?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Noe

Re: Contacting Uber driver

2020-09-08 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
Hi Kathy,

I used to face the same problem with Uber. As a Visually Impaired and
having experienced this pain, I built an App which will allow everything to
be done with just voice commands. With this, you can simply use a command
and can either message or call the driver and don't have to go through a
whole lot of trouble to simply find the option to message the driver. Just
see Louie in action here - https://youtu.be/IeBw5-FRZmQ

It’s been since the iPHone7. It came to be when the 7’s Home button was haptic
instead of mechanical. Great job on the progress you’re making with the iPhone!
I’m sure that soon enough you’ll be recording tutorials to show others its use!

One thing I can suggest, is when you are entering your user name or password,
if their are capitol letters in your password, not to use the caps lock key. I
had this problem when activating my victor stream for audible playback. I
tried entering my password my usual way of using the caps lock key and it
wouldn't work. However, when I used the shift key to enter in my capitol
letters, everything went smoothly. Good luck.

I tried researching the error on Google and it must be a new one

Contacting Uber driver

2020-09-08 Thread Kathy Brandt
Seems to have gotten more difficult: in short, I could only do so just before
he arrived, instead of being in a better position to leave a message explaining
particular circumstances like I like to do. Is this true for the rest of you?
Thanks. Before that very brief window I was allowed, I could only bring up the
drivers name and when I double tapped on it, expecting the contact options, I
could only read his profile and what people said about him.

Re: Shipt, was Re: InstaCart App

Otherwise, even though it takes a little more time, I go through the steps for
picking a specific replacement for each item in my cart when I am sure what I
finally want, instead of leaving it to pick best match. In some instances, even
if an item doesn’t appear in the specific replacement options, you can still do
a search.

I also really like Instacart. I pay $9.99 a month because I don't always use
them every month, as my husband likes to go to the store to do most of the
shopping. I have a question. Will they pick up your prescriptions and if so,
how is that done? We shop at Kroger here in Nashville where we have our
prescriptions so that's the reason for my question.
