VoiceOver Says 'Space after each word While Reading Arabic When Typing?

2020-11-07 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

Since I upgraded to iOS14.2, Voiceover says'space' after each word while
reading it when typing Arabic. It doesn't do it when typing English. Is
anyone else having this problem?

Thanks!

A question about vibration and haptic feedback

2020-11-07 Thread Rafał Marzec
Hi everyone
I’ve got some strange problem and I would like to ask for your opinion
When I’m using iPhone with voice-over for longer time haptic feedback and
vibration stops working
It’s coming back to normal after reset my phone or sometimes turning off and
turning on VoiceOver
Vibration and haptic feedback‘ also stops working when I’m connecting my
AirPods Pro
Has any one of you has the same problem?

separately) on clothes, meds & more. Tap your smartphone to quickly read &
write info.

anything.” - J.J. Meddaugh, AT Guys.

“This is definitely a game changer.” - Fred Quirk, user.

“I just love it & think it is so much easier than a barcode reader or anything
that has to be focused using the camera.” - Melissa Wagner, user.

- Save time identifying everyday items by making them permanently accessible.

- Easily manage all the important details about your things.

- Do more of the things you want, with more confidence and independence.

HOW IT WORKS.

Download the WayAround – Tag and Scan app and use with smart WayTag NFC tags
(sold separately) to add helpful info to just about anything. WayTags come as
stickers, magnets, buttons, and clips. Attach a WayTag to an item, then use the
app to read or write information. You’ll get the info through VoiceOver or
whichever accessibility settings you’ve chosen on your iPhone.

Quickly Read Tags with the Tap of a Smartphone.

- Read in a split second, without using the camera.

- Get the description the first time you scan. Then scroll or swipe for more
details.

- Go offline and still get your info.

Customize Info to Your Heart’s Content.

- Flexible interface lets you include exactly the information you want.

- Add up to 2K characters of information – much more than most NFC tags will
hold.

- Edit or re-write the entire tag as many times as you want.

- Select from pre-defined details to easily add information like dietary
information and washing instructions.

- Add helpful links, like user manuals or how-to videos. You can even add
multiple links on the same WayTag.

Use Your Preferred Accessibility Settings.

- Works with your iPhone's built-in accessibility features.

- Enter information with voice dictation.

- Optimized to work seamlessly with VoiceOver.

- Interface uses high-contrast colors and large font.

- Compatible with braille display.

- Works for anyone who is blind, low vision, vision impaired, deafblind,
colorblind, or sighted.

Makes the most of Your Smartphone's Built-in Features.

- Uses the NFC reader (that's Near Field Communication) available in the most
modern smartphones.

- Scanning an NFC tag doesn't use up the phone's battery.

- Automatically back up information on your phone and on our cloud database.

The Wayaround app is for using with the Wayaround identification tags. For more
information, I would recommend going to their website and reading more about it.

Hi, I just tried it, and what it is doing is just losing focus of the result.

It starts to read the result, or quickly reads the result, then voice over

If you swipe one time right, then swipe back one time, then you should be on
the result and it should read it to you.

Typically, it should not be losing focus. This has happened in the past, and
they have fixed it. You just have to let them know of the issue.

Hope this helps.

Anyone using the Way Around labeling tags and app? I just created my first
one, after listening to the AIRA podcast on them. When I read by the label,
VoiceOver is truncating the information. Even if I scan the bag of labels,
VoiceOver starts to read it, then says “Way Around”. This is not how it was
when I heard the demo. Wondering if others are experiencing this or if I have
a unique issue.

Well, I don't have your original post anymore, since it isn't included below,
but I definitely thought someone might infer that it would somehow change how
you had your apps organized. There was also a lot of questions and confusion
around this feature when it first showed up, so I didn't think there was any
harm in clarifying this point. I even tried to be careful to avoid stating that
you said it would change how you organized your apps. I'll try to do better in
the future, but since we're asking people on the list to be more sensitive to
others posts, I'll ask people not to assume things are implied when they aren't
and be more appreciative when someone clarifies a point trying to avoid
confusion in the future.

How accessible is the kinsa?

2020-11-07 Thread Ann Byrne
I bought the Withings thermometer because I would
like one that doesn't go under the
tongue. However, I cannot get the stinker to
report ratings to my phone. Does anyone have
experience with the Kinsa? Do the temp readings
appear magically on the phone, or is it a pain to
retrieve them. Should I return the Withings and
get the Kinsa, or just go with the plain old
talking under-the-tongue thermometer in my kitchen drawer?

HI Peter,

I downloaded the Kinsa Smart Stick app and while
I was able to successfully add myself to it, I

What I find a bit more puzzling is that although
the app is named Smart Stick and they have the
Smart Stick thermometer as one of the choices to
set up for use with the app, they apparently
don't sell this model anymore. At any rate, I
could not find it on their website or at Amazon.
I did find the Kinsa QuickCare Smart Thermometer
listed in those available to set up with the app
and available for sale both on their website and
at Amazon. For those interested, Amazon is
currently selling it for $24.99 while Kinsa
sells it for $27.99 on their website. Here is the link to it at Amazon:

I'd welcome any other comments from those using

Re: reading temperature on a Withings thermometer?

2020-11-07 Thread Ann Byrne

Hi, Kim,

can you walk me through taking a temperature?
1. Press the button.
2. Slide the thermometer from forehead to temple, waiting for a double buzz.
3. With the circular part of the thermometer
pointing left, swipe up (away from you), across
the thermometer, near the right end.

4. Press the button.
5. Hope!

My sighted son-in-law can get it to send the temperature. I cannot.

Do you take the temp with the phone app open, or
open it after you take the temp?

I am thinking I may just return the stinker, as it is *not cooperating with me.

thanks,

Ann

As for the readings, when you first open the app
you will find settings at the top of the screen.
Swipe once and you’ll see family members.
Swipe again and you’ll see blah blah new
measurements. Mine says 36 but your mileage will
obviously vary. Double tap it and you will be
taken to a screen that lists all your
temperature measurements with the latest at the
top. They are identified by date and maybe time
though I can’t remember exactly. I haven’t
found a way to delete old measurements though
admittedly since the most recent is at the top
of the list I haven’t tried that hard.

Also be aware that the readings, at least in my
experience, is around a point lower than it is
with a standard under-the-tongue thermometer. So
if my temp reads as 96.9 I figure I am about 97.9.

I hope this is helpful.

Hello Shirley:

Well it’s hard to say without being on that list and looking at the messages
themselves how are you can get from one message to another.

Use your rotor and see if you can find messages if you messages is in the rotor
flip down to go up between the messages.

Not sure if that’s gonna work because I don’t know how the digest mode formats
the messages.

If there is an edit field you can do select all and copy and paste them to
Microsoft word or notes so that you can browse them easily.

I hope this helps!

I get messages from a recipe list and have decided to get them in digest mode.
How do I get say from say the second recipe in a group of seven or 8 recipes
using my phone? I tried headings but that didn't seem to work. I don't want to
get them individually because there are too many in one day.

I Believe My Phone Has Crashed

2020-11-07 Thread Shirley Baker
I believe my 6S plus phone has crashed. I was listening to something and
all of a sudden it stopped. I have pressed the home button and side button
to reboot the phone and nothing happens. Any suggestions? It is fully
charged.

Re: Since upgrading, voiceover often does not read back dictated text

2020-11-07 Thread Mary Otten
Hi richard,
No, if I use Siri, the stuff gets read back. But if I am in the Messages app,
responding to a message, and double tap the dictate button and then dictate,
and then do another double tap, much of the time, nothing is read back although
the text is entered.

A Facebook/voiceOver Question

2020-11-07 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Listers,

When I go into my FB APP, there is a series of buttons indicating some of my
friends who are active at the moment I become active. As I navigate the
buttons, VoiceOver reads the names. But they do not appear on the Braille
device, though everything else beyond that list appears in braille just fine.
Can anyone offer an explanation about why VoiceOver speaks the names while the
Braille device just says "btn". Thanks. It's not a serious problem or anything
like that. I'm just wondering why this should happen at all if there's any real
explanation.

Peace & Blessings,

Typically, it should not be losing focus. This has happened in the past, and
they have fixed it. You just have to let them know of the issue.

Hope this helps.

Anyone using the Way Around labeling tags and app? I just created my first
one, after listening to the AIRA podcast on them. When I read by the label,
VoiceOver is truncating the information. Even if I scan the bag of labels,
VoiceOver starts to read it, then says “Way Around”. This is not how it was
when I heard the demo. Wondering if others are experiencing this or if I have
a unique issue.

This relates specifically to text messages. I use dictation a lot, but since I
upgraded to 14.2, I have noticed that often, but not every time, texts that I
dictate in the messages app or not automatically read back. Has anyone else

RE: is it OK to upgrade from iOS 13.7 to14.2?

2020-11-07 Thread Richard Turner
I never implied that your home screen would change, but mentioned I don't use
the app library because I like the way my phone is organized.
Two people now have implied that I said it would change your home screen.
I merely used an I statement to express my opinion.
Please do not take my I statements out of context and imply that I meant
something else.

2020-11-07 Thread chaffin102468

I just updated myself from 13.4 to 14.2, and at least for me, I find it more
stable then iOS 13.
And I will repeat what others have said, your home screen will remain the same
as you have it now. The App Library is just an option that you can use if you
elect to do so.

I hope this helps.

For me it’s working out very well: with the updated Safari I can use a website
that had been unusable, and I like how now from within a messagnow from within
a message I can flick up and double tap on the trash button, which in iOS 13

RE: Way Around tags app

2020-11-07 Thread chaffin102468
Hi, I just tried it, and what it is doing is just losing focus of the result.

It starts to read the result, or quickly reads the result, then voice over
focus jumps back to the heading of the app.

If you swipe one time right, then swipe back one time, then you should be on
the result and it should read it to you.

Typically, it should not be losing focus. This has happened in the past, and
they have fixed it. You just have to let them know of the issue.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Anyone using the Way Around labeling tags and app? I just created my first
one, after listening to the AIRA podcast on them. When I read by the label,
VoiceOver is truncating the information. Even if I scan the bag of labels,
VoiceOver starts to read it, then says “Way Around”. This is not how it was
when I heard the demo. Wondering if others are experiencing this or if I have
a unique issue.

RE: is it OK to upgrade from iOS 13.7 to14.2?

2020-11-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Note that in 14.2 the App Library doesn't change the way you have your phone
organized at all. It just adds an App Library that you can choose to use or not
use. I personally like it because I don't have to worry about apps
I never or seldomly use, but if you don't like it then you don't have to use it.

For me it’s working out very well: with the updated Safari I can use a website
that had been unusable, and I like how now from within a messagnow from within
a message I can flick up and double tap on the trash button, which in iOS 13
didn’t work.

There is a setting you need to change. It is in settings/phone. You want to

Re: Question About Reading Messages in Daily Digest Mode

2020-11-07 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello Shirley:
Well it’s hard to say without being on that list and looking at the messages
themselves how are you can get from one message to another.
Use your rotor and see if you can find messages if you messages is in the rotor
flip down to go up between the messages.
Not sure if that’s gonna work because I don’t know how the digest mode formats
the messages.
If there is an edit field you can do select all and copy and paste them to
Microsoft word or notes so that you can browse them easily.
I hope this helps!

Subject: Question About Reading Messages in Daily Digest Mode

I get messages from a recipe list and have decided to get them in digest mode.
How do I get say from say the second recipe in a group of seven or 8 recipes
using my phone? I tried headings but that didn't seem to work. I don't want to
get them individually because there are too many in one day.

RE: is it OK to upgrade from iOS 13.7 to14.2?

2020-11-07 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Keith,
I think it is, but here is the Applevis blog entry with everything you may want
to know about bugs.
Just know that 14.2 changes a few things and adds something called an App
Library, which I have avoided so far because I like the way my iPhone is
organized now.
Apple Releases iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2; Bringing Many Bug Fixes for VoiceOver
and Braille Users
Submitted by AppleVis on Thursday, November 5, 2020 - 18:01.

Apple has today released iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 to the public. In addition to
bringing fixes for a large number of the bugs that iOS 14.0 and iPadOS 14.0
introduced for VoiceOver and braille users, these releases add the previously
reported new People Detection feature to the Magnifier app on devices with the
LiDAR Scanner.
Bug Fixes
Our testing suggests that the following pre-existing accessibility bugs have
been resolved in iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2:
• The Detected Text feature that's part of the VoiceOver Recognition
features now works with braille displays.
• The Radio tab in the native Music app is now fully accessible.
• The VoiceOver rotor's Actions menu is now consistently available on
Widgets.
• Apple has resolved some issues with using the VoiceOver rotor to
arrange Widgets.
• Pressing VO+Space on an external keyboard will no longer on occasions
trigger the Context Menu rather than activate the item VoiceOver focus is on.
• Scrolling the Today View when necessary is now more reliable.
• You can once again practice Braille Screen input in the practice area
of the Accessibility settings.
• Audio Destination no longer incorrectly appears in the VoiceOver rotor
when using Apple AirPods.
• The Audio Destination Rotor menu now behaves as expected if used when
VoiceOver focus is on a UI element that has Action menu items available.
• It is now possible to use the drag options from the VoiceOver rotor in
the Translate app.
• VoiceOver no longer says “new line” When announcing a language with
multiple variants in the Translate app.
• VoiceOver no longer encounters an unlabelled element when navigating in
the listen screen of the Translate app.
• VoiceOver once again consistently announces “Control Center” when the
Control Center is opened.
• When in the last page of a Home screen folder on iOS, performing a
three-finger swipe to the left will no longer wrongly load the App Library.
At the time of posting, we are unaware of any new bugs or regressions for blind
and low vision users in these releases.
As we always stress, we can make no claims on the completeness or accuracy of
our testing. We are only a small team, and it is simply impossible for us to
test all devices, configurations, applications, and use cases. Accordingly, to
help us ensure that the information on this page is as complete and accurate as
possible, please let us know in the comments of any fixes; enhancements; or
regressions that you find in your own use of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2.
General Changes in iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2
iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 introduce a number of new emoji. These include smiling
face with tear, ninja, pinched fingers, anatomical heart, black cat, mammoth,
polar bear, dodo, fly, bell pepper, tamale, bubble tea, potted plant, piñata,
plunger, wand, feather, hut, and more. MacRumors has the full list of new emoji
here.
Elsewhere in these releases, there's a new Shazam Music Recognition control for
the Control Center and new designs for the Control Center's Now Playing widget
and the AirPlay interface.
Release Notes
The release notes for iOS 14.2 are as follows:
iOS 14.2 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:
• Over 100 new emoji, including animals, food, faces, household objects,
musical instruments, gender-inclusive emoji, and more
• Eight new wallpapers in both light and dark mode versions
• Magnifier can detect people nearby, and report their distance using the
LiDAR sensor included in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
• Support for iPhone 12 Leather Sleeve with MagSafe
• Optimized battery charging for AirPods to slow the rate of battery
aging by reducing the time your AirPods spends fully charged
• Headphone audio level notifications to alert you when audio level could
impact your hearing
• New AirPlay controls to stream entertainment throughout your home
• Intercom support with HomePod and HomePod mini using iPhone, iPad,
Apple Watch, AirPods, and CarPlay
• Ability to connect HomePod to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound,
and Dolby Atmos audio
• Option to provide statistics about Exposure Notifications, without
identifying you, to participating Public Health Authorities
This release also fixes the following issues:
• Apps could be out of order on the Home Screen dock
• Camera viewfinder may appear black when launched
• The keyboard on the Lock Screen could miss

is it OK to upgrade from iOS 13.7 to14.2?

2020-11-07 Thread 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone
hi,
I am on iOS 13.7. iOS 14.2 has been out 48 hours. Do you think it’s OK to
safely upgrade?
Appreciate any thoughts.
Best, Keith

still seeking media player app to use with Dropbox

2020-11-07 Thread Vicki W.
Hi,

I'm still looking for a media player app for both my mini IPad and IPhone that
I can use to play media when in Dropbox. Right now, I'm using the default
player but I want to have something which I can speed up or slow down.

Thanks.

Re: Using the Docs APP

2020-11-07 Thread Richard Turner
Try double tapping on the attachment, which will open the document then at the
top right should be a share button, double tap that.
Then, Docs should be in the list of share options, or double tap More in that
share sheet, and I'm sure it will be in that list.
Then the document will be in Google Docs.
