downcast syncing across devices?

2021-05-22 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,
I have two iPhones using the same apple ID.
In downcast I have all the syncing options on.
On my phone that I have just recently started using again it says
episodes haven't been refreshed in 5 months.
On the other phone that I was using till a week or two ago it says
episodes refreshed two weeks ago.

Any ideas if I can have the podcasts show up and be mirrored on both phones?
TIA.

It works with any Bluetooth device, or if you are using the USB Dongle, it will
work with whichever device you have the dongle plugged into as far as I know.

Try it and see.

If using it on Bluetooth, you may have to turn the Bluetooth off on any other
device you have it paired with.

with a PC on Zoom calls and hope it will work on the Air.

Thanks, Marie

RE: Music in my iPhone.

2021-05-22 Thread Carolyn
I did that, got to Pandora and Spotify, never could get to where I needed to
install. Eventually, maybe I'll get it. Once I do, then, I know, it will be
easy.

They seem to really want me to get hames. I have no interest, at least right

Testing

2021-05-22 Thread Vivian Conger
Sorry for highjacking a message but I wanted to reply to the list as a test.

In the last 2 weeks I have sent 3 fresh messages to the list and I wanted to
make sure I was sending to the right address. It looks the same to me but
usually someone responds to inquiries.

The first message was regarding Facebook vs. Facebook mobile and the other
messages were about a specific hearing-aid app.

If I missed responses, that’s on me but if they didn’t make it to the list,
then I wanted to figure out what’s happening.

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Vivian and Sallie

Re: Question About iPhone Backups and Losing Data

2021-05-22 Thread Kelly Pierce
Congratulations Steve on your upgrade to a 12. I am looking forward to
replacing my 7 with a 2021 iPhone Mini when they come out. When you
switched phones in the past, did you do a phone to phone transfer or a
transfer with iCloud or a computer backup. A few years ago, Apple
introduced the means to transfer data with a new phone just by putting
it next to the old phone. Both phones need to be on Wi-Fi and running
the same major version of iOS, such as iOS 14. A friend of mine did
this and he was able to essentially clone his phone and transfer all
music, videos and photos.

RE: iPhone 12 Help

2021-05-22 Thread Richard Turner
Here is the excerpt from my iOS VoiceOver Gestures document from my web page:

For devices without a home button:
Side button replacing Home button commands
*Unlock Phone: Facial Recognition, or tap the Side button and enter
your passcode
*Accessibility Shortcut: Triple click of the Side button
*Screenshot: Simultaneously press and quickly release the Side button
and Volume Up button. Caution: if you hold the volume up and side power button
too long, you will activate the Emergency SOS and end up calling 911.
  * Activate Siri: Press and hold the Side button
*Reboot the iPhone: Press and release the volume up button, then the
volume down button, then hold in the side/power button for about 10 seconds or
until the Apple comes back and gradually fills in the image.
*Power off the iPhone by holding in the power button until the power
off icon appears, release the side button and double tap on the Power Off
button. Or, go to Settings, General, Shut down and double tap on shut down.
*Activate Apple Pay: Double click the Side button

New Gestures replacing function of the Home button
Starting at the bottom of the screen and slide one finger up. You will feel
three haptic vibrations referred to as "clicks" (similar to the old "click"
when pressing the Home button). Each of these three clicks will activate a
function. Note: The first click alerts you that you are in the feature.
*Return to the Home screen: From the bottom of the screen slide one
finger up until the second click. Lift your finger from the screen.
*Activate the App Switcher: From the bottom of the screen, slide one
finger up until the third click. Lift your finger from the screen.
*Activate Reachability mode (if enabled in Settings): From the bottom
of the screen, slide one finger up until you feel the first click. Quickly
flick down.

Notification and Control Center

Starting at the top of the screen, slide one finger down to feel the clicks.
*Access the Control Center: From the top of the screen, slide one
finger down until the second click. Lift your finger from the screen.
*Access the Notification Center: From the top of the screen, slide one
finger down until the third click. Lift your finger from the screen.

Other settings
Raise to Wake, under Settings, Display and Brightness, defaults to on.
If you find that your phone is constantly trying to "wake" up or unlock, and
perhaps the battery is not giving you the time you thought it should, try
turning that feature off. If you use VoiceOver, and it is constantly saying
the time whenever you move the iPhone, you probably have raise to wake on and
each time the phone moves, it is trying to wake up.
People who carry their phone in a bag or a purse may find it is constantly
waking up from the movement of the bag/purse.

There is also a feature called Tap to Wake, under Settings, Accessibility,
Touch, that allows you to wake up the phone by tapping in the middle of the
screen with one finger.
If you turn off the Raise To Wake feature, you may find this one very helpful.
You can move your phone without it trying to wake up, and when you want to wake
it up, tap on the middle of the screen, then do the slide gesture from the
bottom to finish unlocking it.

If you use Face ID, you will find that if you also turn off, Require Attention
for Face ID under Settings, Accessibility, Face ID and Attention, that just
having the phone facing you when you do the unlock gesture you will almost
never have to enter your passcode.
Turning off Requires attention is particularly useful for VoiceOver users
because you don't have to get your face into the exact position it was when you
set it up.

Malcolm, you are right. There I go again blaming a beature unfairly just
because I don't find it useful, grin.
Asking Aplle Accessibility to do a screen share will be the quickest way to
figure this out.

RE: question about a command

2021-05-22 Thread CJ & AA MAY
Which version of the Iphone do you have, Pat? I believe it is one of the
earlier versions so if you hold down the button on the righthand side of the
phone for about five seconds, it should then ask if you want to turn it off and
you swipe with your finger (left to right) until you reach the option you want
and double tap.

Hi Joshua,

Read the messages below to learn how to remove the new Siri voices:
 Original Message

IOS 14.5 has 4 Siri voices with no description of what kind of voice they
are. So I downloaded all 4 to test them. Now I would like to delete the ones
I don't like, but I can't find a way to do this. Anyone know how?
Loy

From: Dominique Farrell
When this happened to me after I downloaded two Irish Siri Voices to listen
to, and then I wanted to delete one of them, and only have the one Voice for
VoiceOver & Siri, Apple advised me to go to “LANGUAGE & REGION” in “SETTINGS
& GENERAL” and then change the region from your region to another one, and
then go back into “VOICEOVER VOICES” and you can then delete the individual
voices. After deleting the voices, go back into “LANGUAGE & REGION” again,
and select your chosen region to be saved. Steps below:
To delete unwanted Siri voices do the following:

list of 7 items
1. Go to “SETTINGS and double tap on it.

2. Swipe to “GENERAL” and double tap.

3. Go to “LANGUAGE & REGION” and double tap.

4. Change your default region to another one and double tap on change to
whatever one you’ve chosen.

5. Go to “VOICEOVER & Voices” and double tap on the voice that’s selected.

6. Swipe to the voices you wish to delete and swipe up with one finger to
delete and double tap.

7. Go back into “LANGUAGE & REGION” again and select your default region
from the list of regions and double tap on it.
list end

This will delete all Siri voices that you don’t want.

Dominique

From: Mike B
Hi Dominique,

Well I thank you very much, this worked like a charm. It's relatively
simple as well. For others that would like to remove the new Siri voices,
and maybe
others, but I'm not sure, try the following:

Note: I use US English, so make sure you choose a region whose language or
dialect you'll understand!
1. Go to Settings / General / Language and Region and do a single finger
double tap to open.

2. Swipe to, Region, and do a single finger double tap to open.

3. Find your region and do a single finger double tap to select. You'll get
a confirmation dialogue asking if you're sure you want to change, so single
finger tap the, Change to..., region option. You might or might not get a
message stating that your iPhone will restart and it only takes a second or
2.

4. Now go to, Accessibility / Voiceover / Speech, and delete the voices you
want removed.

5. Now repeat steps 1 thru 3, but selecting your original region.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi to all. I recently updated my iPhone
and was looking forward to trying out one of the new Siri voices.
However, after I downloaded one of the voices, I noticed, that if I
used it with voice over, it sounded fine, but if I used it with Siri,
it sounded kind of muffled. I was going to delete it, but I found
out, that at present, this isn't possible. So, just make sure if you
want to download one of the new voices either male or female which was
my case, that you really want it on your iPhone.

be careful if you download one of the new Siri voices

2021-05-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson

Re: Question about Instant Pot and iPhone

2021-05-22 Thread Judy Wilkinson
Like everyone else I merrily updated my iPhone without even thinking of my
precious Bluetooth instant pot! I have made note of all the buttons but the
real problem is setting the timer which defaults to 30 minutes and it’s very
difficult to reset and you have no confirmation ultimately that you did it
right.

 Good morning,

I hope this is a good list to ask this question.
A few years ago, I got one of the first Smart Instant Pots that
hooked up to the iPhone via Bluetooth. It worked well, and while I
could use it to some extent with just the buttons, I found that
being able to use it with my phone really helped and made it easier
to take advantage of its capabilities.
Since I upgraded to my iPhone 12, I found that my Instant Pot
doesn’t connect to my phone. I thought I had to re-pair it via the
app, and when I tried going that direction, either my phone or the
Instant Pot didn’t seem to recognize one another. If there is some
recognition, it is only for an instant, and then it goes away and I
can’t use the Instant Pot with the phone.
I’m wondering what you think could be wrong, or if I should get one
 of the newer ones.
I like being able to use it and set the temperatures with ease
without having to memorize and count and do all of those extra things.
This is still in good condition, except for the Bluetooth capabilities.
What are people using now? What do you guys think about the newer
Smart Instant Pots? How accessible are they? Are they worth it?
I’d like to read your thoughts before I make any decisions.

RE: Strange iPhone SE 2020 question?

2021-05-22 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello Richard,

Thanks for correcting me on the latest version number of iOS, I have the beta
running here and my memory is not quite what it used to be.

I have checked all settings on his iPhone and he has it set up identically to
mine. So I don’t know what’s going on but I’ll have another look later.

I have not found Screen Recognition to be of any use.

Before anyone criticises me for saying that, I am not saying Screen
Recognition is useless, it is just that it has not proved useful with the apps
and the way I use my iPhone. I look forward to future developments.

I do not know what he is doing to not have other apps announced, but he may
want to check the settings for describe images and screen recognition. Also,
14.5.1 is the latest build.

A friend of mine has an iPhone SE 2020 running the latest iOS 14.4.

If he places his finger on the screen and moves left, right, up or down
Voiceover does not announce the apps as he moves through them although the
iPhone does make the click and provide haptic feedback as expected.

The only way he can have apps announced is to flick right and left through them.

Oddly enough, the only apps that are spoken correctly if he places his finger
on them and moves right and left are those in the Dock.

So for example on the bottom row he has:

Phone, Mail, Safari and Music. If he places his finger bottom left and moves
right apps are read out correctly but no where else.

Any suggestions welcome.

This happened on two devices on latest version of iOS. So far haven’t heard
anything after writing on Twitter. Just letting you know in case you hadn’t
already updated. I could order from the web OK, and it’s interesting that it
took the cost of my order out of Uber cash even though you don’t get credit
towards Uber rewards, at least I don’t think so.
