NZ converted back in the late 60's before I was born,

And I still use inchs feets miles etc,

But then I use the metric system as well.

And besides,

You guys still drive on the wrong side of the road, That wouldn’t' be an
easy conversion.

the metric system. It would not take long for the people to get accustomed

Um,
100 miles per hour is equal to 160 kilometres per hour,

So one mile is approx. 1.6 Km.

I don't think that is quite right. .62 of a mile is one km. so two km is
1.24 miles.

Hi, I ordered one from Amazon by the brand surene life and it has buttons
that you can label and or it has the speed buttons up and down on one handle
and on and off on the other. There is also an app you can use to keep up
with your miles but it is in kilometers.

Hope this helps.

I agree, richard. I love the fall feature. It’s huge. Lots and lots of people
live alone. Actually, what didn’t excite me with all this stuff inside of
images that they want you to look at. It’s cool. But I surely do wish they
would fix the mail problems that have gone on fixed for a while. Oh well.
That’s not glamorous.

2021-06-08 Thread Richard Turner
Nothing about Glucose detection, but since that will need to be a hardware
change, unless someone figures out how to detect glucose levels the same way
they do oxygen; you will have to wait until the fall reveal of the new phones,
and possibly watches.

I think if Apple can pull that off, it would be great! I am fortunate and
don't have issues with blood glucose, but I know lots of folks who have.

Hi ann,

That was something I
 Kept an ear out for,

There was only a mention within the health app, but then I think we're really
waiting to hear what happens with the next watch which is rumoured to have
blood glucose testing abilities built in.

But again it's rumoured and until it's really out we wont know what's included.

I'm always tripping over someone or something when walking around town.

As for at home,

I've got no space to fall over in,

To much clutter around the place,

Mind you I spend a lot of time either sitting at my desk or on the couch

May e it will see that as fallen.

I could not disagree more with your statement.

Simon, Several of the health features are
clearly targeting older adults. You may not be

features for the vast majority of people using iPhones one day.

I know someone who was helped greatly by the

Hello Simon,

I share your sentiment especially regarding the
new Focus feature. Then again, we must always
remember that many of these features are based
on the needs of young, rich, highly active San
Francisco Bay area based users.

This is just my opinion but I would put money on the demographic I describe.

As I think back over the years at some of the
photos they display regarding their staff,
during the presentation, it leaves little doubt
about which demographic gets the most attention
and it ain't low-paid blue-collar wage earners (smile).

Simon,
I am not aware of Apple forcing anyone to use most of these features.
The fall detection is a feature now under SOS on the watch that can be disabled
or enabled; users choice.

Granted, you may not need it, but there are people who do and Apple is one of
the leading companies in making things for everyone, not just a few, and
allowing for personal customization.

Richard,

The fall detection for me will be impossible to live with,

I'm always tripping over someone or something when walking around town.

As for at home,

I've got no space to fall over in,

To much clutter around the place,

Mind you I spend a lot of time either sitting at my desk or on the couch

May e it will see that as fallen.

Fascinating, Mark, so you think the young, rich, bay area people are going to
be needing the hearing aid features, the fall risk features, and others I won't
bother with here.

I could not disagree more with your statement.

Simon, Several of the health features are clearly targeting older adults. You
may not be there yet, but those are going to be good features for the vast
majority of people using iPhones one day.

I know someone who was helped greatly by the fall detection as they live alone
and the fact that their watch alerted her emergency contacts that she had
fallen, was possibly a life saver.

I think it's great that Apple started this and now others are following. A lot
of people buy a new smart phone every year on whatever upgrade plan they are
on, others keep their's for 2 or 3 years and some even for 4 or 5, but the fact
is that a wall charger lasts for much longer than that so why add thousands of
tons of plastic and other components when it's not necessary. And if you don't
think it's that much, just do the math. Each year hundreds of millions phones
are sold, maybe even a Billion. If the wall adapter weighs an ounce, 25 or 30
grams and if there are a Billion a year that is 250 metric tons of plastic in
one year alone. Add all the other devices like headphones, speakers and so on
and it's a multiple of that. Most such devices already don't include wall plugs
any more so why should a phone. Nowadays you can get wall outlets which in
addition to your 2 regular sockets include 2 or so USB ports, get one of these
in a few places in your house and you rarely ever would need an external wall
adapter any more. As far as I am concerned Apple can stop selling a cable with
the iPhone as well, I have a collection of them from previous phone purchases
and other third party ones because I often find I want a longer cable than the
3-foot one provided and then of course there is the fact that I rarely ever use
a cable any more since I bought a few wireless charging pads several years ago
when I got my iPhone 8 which supported wireless charging and I much prefer that
over having to plug it in.

Hello Sieghard, et al:

Speaking only for myself, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the presentation.

Perhaps I’m just getting older but I am finding it more difficult to be wowed
by technology, these days. Perhaps I have started taking, for granted, all of
those things that were not either available or accessible to us, as blind or
low vision users, 20 years ago.

Be that as it may, I think it is kind of nice that one can now share media via
FaceTime.

However, what I was hoping to see was a way to save and file messages, in the
Messages app, for later retrieval. For example, I would like to be able to
create a folder, in the Messages app, called Happy Birthday, in which I could
save all of those very special messages from people who send me birthday
wishes.

I think what I found most exciting is the new feature that will allow one to
both learn how to code and submit apps to the App Store via Swift Playground,
on iPad.

At least in the USA your providers give you good deals on phone costs

And yes from my visualisation of the presenters in the keynote presentation

RE: WWDC

2021-06-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty

Hello Simon,

I share your sentiment especially regarding the new Focus feature. Then again,
we must always remember that many of these features are based on the needs of
young, rich, highly active San Francisco Bay area based users.

This is just my opinion but I would put money on the demographic I describe.

As I think back over the years at some of the photos they display regarding
their staff, during the presentation, it leaves little doubt about which
demographic gets the most attention and it ain't low-paid blue-collar wage
earners (smile).

Just my opinion, nothing more (smile).

Some of these new to come features sound pretty far out there, To the point I
think, as cool as that feature sounds, Why do we need it, Or more to the point,
do we need it?

Are we starting to get lazy

It's almost like the IOS 15 OS will do everything for me except make my coffee
in the morning, and sleep for me at night.
Or should that be the other way around,

Don't get me wrong,
This stuff sounds very very cool and helpful, But really, do I need to know
when I'm going to fall over?

But we in New Zealand wont get the benefit of a lot of these features because
our systems aren't up to stratch

Like my medical test requests / results, I don't believe we have the
inferstructure in our medical systems to get this without jumping through rings
of fire!

But still.

Lets see where this goes once the os is actually updated.

The one thing I'm actually looking forward to is the SharePlay feature.
Especially since a lot of the big streaming services appear to be onboard. Not
that my sighted wife or family/friends for that matter would ever say anything
or complain, but hopefully with SharePlay, it'll be a lot more convenient to
watch and enjoy something with others for those of us who need or want the

Hi Anna,

Yes I agree but some of the features I do wonder if they're not just a bit over
the top,

However we shouldn't knoc the apple world,

At least they are making devices / os's fully accessible to those of us with
the adaptive needs.

I'm waiting really though for the next phone to see what new developments it's
going to bring with IOS15.

Hi,

I think the focus features will be great for anyone who is easily distracted,
including people with ADD and similar issues. I think it's great that they are
making it possible for people with more and more different kinds of needs to
use these devices. The great thing is that you can use the features you need
and ignore the rest.

Cheers,

Accessibility

Explore images with VoiceOver

Explore people, objects, text, and tables within images in more detail with
VoiceOver. Navigate receipts and nutrition label values intelligently in
logical order. And move your finger over a photo to discover a person's
position relative to other objects within images.

VoiceOver image descriptions in Markup

Markup lets you add image descriptions that can be read by VoiceOver. Image
descriptions persist even when shared and can be read in a range of
supported apps on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Sound actions for Switch Control

Sound actions for Switch Control let you control iPhone with simple mouth
sounds - such as a click, pop, or "ee" sound - without the need for physical
buttons, switches, or complex verbal commands.

Background sounds

Background sounds play balanced, bright, or dark noise, ocean, rain, and
stream sounds continuously in the background to mask unwanted environmental
or external noise and help you focus, stay calm, or rest. The sounds mix
into or duck under other audio and system sounds as you use your device.

Per-app settings

Customize display and text size settings on an app-by-app basis. Bold or
enlarge text, increase contrast, invert colors, add color filters, and more
for only the apps you want.

Import audiograms

Import paper or PDF audiograms in Settings and quickly customize Headphone
Accommodations to amplify soft sounds and adjust certain frequencies based
on your hearing test results.

Magnifier app

Magnifier becomes a default app on iOS, so you can use your iPhone as a
magnifying glass to zoom in on objects near you.

Accessibility Memoji

Memoji represent more of your look and style with new customizations,
including oxygen tubes, cochlear implants, and a soft helmet for headwear.

New Voice Control languages

Voice Control adds new language options including Mandarin Chinese (China
mainland), Cantonese (Hong Kong), French (France), and German (Germany).
These languages use Siri speech recognition technology for incredible
accuracy as you dictate your commands.

Re: I need an app

2021-06-08 Thread Wayne Merritt
Depending on where in the world you are, I keep track of most of my
medications through the Walgreens app in the US. I can view a list of
medications along with their doses, and get them refilled from within
the app. There is a medication that I take once per week, and for that
I use the built-in reminders or tasks in the Fantastical free version,
but the reminders app could also suffice. I like this setup since when
I mark the task as complete, it disappears from the current day and
moves to the next week automatically. Walgreens has pill reminders,
but I've had hit and miss success with it. It would work great and
then I would not be reminded to take my medication for one or more
weeks.

Kindly,
Wayne Merritt

Re: Logitech K860 Wireless ergonomic keyboard for Windows/android or Mac/iOS, updated info about the Applications key

Are you using the USb dongle for your Windows machine?
Theoretically, opening bluetooth settings on your mac and holding down the key
for device 2 it should show up on your mac. Perhaps a call to Apple

Logitech K860 Wireless ergonomic keyboard for Windows/android or Mac/iOS

I needed a new keyboard as my 15-year-old USB keyboard was starting to have
problems with a few keys and my old hands are deciding that it is time to go
back to an ergonomic keyboard.
So, after doing some research, I settled on what is rated as one of the better
ergonomic keyboards.

I was not set on wireless, but that is the way the world is going and since I
like Logitech products in general, I went with this one.
Logitech K860 Split wireless Ergonomic keyboard. It is pricy at $130.
I'll start with the negatives.

Cons:
(When I first wrote this up, I thought there was no Applications Key, but there
is, listed as number 8 under Pros.)
1. Only one Windows key on the left.
2. No accessible documentation. And no true documentation about the
hieroglyphic symbols used on some of the keys.
3. It is too easy to toggle to the media functions for the function keys.
4. It is pretty large. Left to right it is the same width as my standard
Wired USB keyboard. Front to back it is about 1.5 times as deep. And, of
course, much higher off the desk at the front edge due to the curve for the
ergonomics of the thing.
5. *Not really a con, just the nature of ergonomic keyboards, but the split is
between the 6 and 7, (and f6 and f7) keys, so for touch typists, the habit of
hitting the 6and F6 with your right index finger has to be retrained.

Pros:
1. It is probably the most comfortable keyboard I have ever typed on. The
wrist rest is quite comfortable, and for me, at the right height Plus, it has
feet under the front edge so you can raise it up to a more level arrangement
which fits me perfectly. It is already on a slight angle so no real need for
feet in the back.
2. Easy setup with or without the Logitech Options package. I plugged in the
USB receiver turned on the keyboard and Windows 10 had no trouble communicating
with it. There is a little key next to the f12 key that toggles you between
standard function keys and the media function keys. Easy to press accidentally.
3. It takes two triple A batteries, and they say that they will last 2 years.
I believe it based on my experience with the K480.
4. This is a full-sized keyboard with the number pad.
5. If I used the Windows Calculator more, this has a designated key above the
Num-lock key to launch the Windows Calculator.
6. It can connect to 3 devices. Either 3 Bluetooth devices or 1 USB and 2
Bluetooth, and/or possibly 2 USB devices and one Bluetooth, that isn't clear.
Connecting it to my iPhone was easy after I called their support line.
The three keys for switching between devices are right above the 6 pack, making
it a 9 pack.
It is tremendously easy to switch devices. I wanted to check a key function on
my iPhone while I was writing this, so I tapped the iPhone key, (for me device
3) did my checking, tapped the computer key, (device 1), and finished writing
this in Word on my computer.
7. It has a physical on/off switch located on the back edge and slightly under
it. If you feel where the split is between f6 and f7, and slide your finger
straight back, you are on it. Flipped to the right is on.
8. There is an Applications key after all, it is the second key from the top
right most key.. It is easy to toggle between the standard function keys and
the media function keys. I know, I listed this under the cons, but for some it
would also be a pro.

For anyone else who has, or ends up with this keyboard, here is the key layout
that involves the missing or extra keys.

ON the very top row, it is mostly standard, but here goes starting from the top
left key:
Escape
F1
f2
f3
f4
f5
f6
f7
f8
f9
f10
f11
f12
The Function Toggle
Print Screen, which is longer than the other keys.
Device 1
Device 2
Device 3
Calculator key
Battery indicator with one of the hieroglyphic symbols my wife couldn't
identify).
I am guessing that is for use with the Logitech Options software.
App Menu, Applications Key
Windows Lock key. This key allows you to lock your

PS
I am eager to see what features the next iPhone will bring to the technology

Hi,

I think the focus features will be great for anyone who is easily distracted,
including people with ADD and similar issues. I think it's great that they are
making it possible for people with more and more different kinds of needs to
use these devices. The great thing is that you can use the features you need
and ignore the rest.

Cheers,

2021-06-08 Thread doug parisian
Well gentle readers: I have 3 older iphones which will not accept the
most recent updates. I am using an Iphone 8 which does accept the
updates but of course is no longer friendly to instapot.

And boy, do I have a deal for you-all, maybe!  I am willing to give a
sad instapot owner one of the oldie mouldier phones set up as a new Iphone.

Sadly, I have no ink for my printer and have no intention to replace the
cartridges; I might need to print something once or twice a year.

Here's the thing! To get one of these relics you need to send an
addressed and stamped padded envelop to me. Not sure of postal cost for
the phone? Five bucks should cover it. This might not be so good for
folks other than Canadians and possibly US folks. I get to keep the
change and American exchange, my tip.

RE: WWDC

2021-06-08 Thread Richard Turner
Fascinating, Mark, so you think the young, rich, bay area people are going to
be needing the hearing aid features, the fall risk features, and others I won't
bother with here.

I could not disagree more with your statement.

Simon, Several of the health features are clearly targeting older adults. You
may not be there yet, but those are going to be good features for the vast
majority of people using iPhones one day.

I know someone who was helped greatly by the fall detection as they live alone
and the fact that their watch alerted her emergency contacts that she had
fallen, was possibly a life saver.

RE: WWDC

2021-06-08 Thread M. Taylor

For example, I would like to be able to
create a folder, in the Messages app, called Happy Birthday, in which I could
save all of those very special messages from people who send me birthday
wishes.

I think what I found most exciting is the new feature that will allow one to
both learn how to code and submit apps to the App Store via Swift Playground,
on iPad.

RE: Insta pot

2021-06-08 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi,

I don't know if the Instant Pot Duo is still being sold. This does not have
any connectivity to mobile devices, but once you learn what the buttons are, it
is useable by a blind person. I have one, and can use it without issues. Of
course, it doesn't have all of the nice things that you would get if it
connected to your phone.

2021-06-08 Thread Devin Prater
I'm more excited about Shareplay. I mean, not just for watching movies with
people without the awful TV noise, but also for general screen sharing,
gaming stuff, all that. I think FaceTime will be used a heck of a lot more
now. Also, Dolby Atmos for FaceTime? Man these kinds of things are what
I've been asking companies to look into. Background noise for focusing or
relaxing? Stuff like this! Apple's push for better and better audio, with
even Apple Music getting Dolby Atmos support, is amazing for me. Just
imagine background ambience 2.0, where maybe the sounds will be task
dependent, like soothing noise for reading, something calming for social
media to maybe mellow out the rage online, something focusing for writing,
stuff like that! I mean, I'd probably have this on a lot if it comes to
MacOS, just to keep me focused and on-task or even motivated. Just imagine
what can be done with sound to help with motivation. And if one is working
in XCode, maybe a little rewarding sound for every function created or
every 50 lines of code. Or in writing, a rewarding sound for every 100
words, or every scene or chapter written. I mean, all this is just getting
started! Imagine Dolby Atmos for VoiceOver TTS and sounds, so that the
voice isn't just jammed into your ear punching with every word. Rather,
speech could be outward a bit, in front of you, maybe with slight reverb to
soften things a bit and make you feel like you have space around you. Stuff
like that.

Re: Insta pot

2021-06-08 Thread Penny Reeder
Unfortunately, it is not accessible, and the company has no plans to upgrade
the app. They currently still sell a WiFi-controlled model, but it gets less
than stellar reviews for accessibility, and the company is not even
recommending that model to current shoppers. It made me very sad to send my
bluetooth IP home with

My sighted daughter. Of course, i am happy she can use it. But, i am very
unhappy about not having a useable pressure cooker. PennySent from my iPhone

RE: iPhone 12 Pro Max Unboxing Warning

2021-06-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

It is the Serenelife foldable digital home gym treadmill smart auto
incline exercise machine with downloadable app. Large running
treadmill with mp3 player, stereo speakers10 mph speed- Slftrd35 is
the model number I think.
Looks like it is $594.99 right now.
Hope this helps.

Re: VO Setting to make it read the changing values like the progress bar

2021-06-08 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Not sure whether it would help, but you could try making it a Watched Item.

I have my iPhone setup so a double-tap on the back of the device toggles Watch
Item on/off.

So I place Voiceover’s focus on the item I want to monitor then turn Watch Item
on.

Give it a try it may be what you’re looking for.

Hello everyone,
I sometime trade in forex and faces issues in rapidly changing values
which voice over doesn't speaks automatically like it does in progress
bar.
Currently I have to use swipe right and then again left to read the
current value.
Is there any setting in voice over through which I can get
continuously announcement whenever values gets change.

Thank you!
