Re: trying to deside on what phone to upgrade to from the I Phone 8 64 bit.

2022-07-20 Thread Kelly Pierce
I have a 512 GB 13 Mini and love the small size that easily fits into
a front or back pocket. With an OLED screen, the battery drain is a
lot less than LCD screens like the 8 when the screen curtain is on and
the brightness is at zero. I carry around with me a Slim 2 5,000 mA
battery charger that fits in my pocket and can charge my 13 Mini for
two charges. The 13 series is the last of the mini so if you want one,
you need to get one in the next year when they are still available or
not have a mini at all. They have been poor sellers so Appple will not
be offering another small iPhone for the foreseeable future.

As was said earlier, iPhone 13’s will have a price drop wen the new
model is introduced later this year.

Apple Releases iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6, Bringing a Fix for a Braille Focus Issue in Mail

2022-07-20 Thread Richard Turner
Apple Releases iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6, Bringing a Fix for a Braille Focus
Issue in Mail
By AppleVis, 20 July, 2022

Apple has today released iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 to the public, both of which
appear to focus on bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements.

Amongst the fixes is the following for Braille users:

When editing an email in the Mail app using a braille display, after inserting
a line break focus will no longer jump to the top of the screen.
Additionally, iOS 15.6 introduces a new Web Rotor Summary setting located in
Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Verbosity.

The options available are:

Speak
Braille
Do Nothing
These options control what additional information VoiceOver will speak when
switching to some of the navigation methods available from the VoiceOver Rotor
in Safari. For instance, the Headings and Links options will speak the number
of each of these that are on the current webpage when this option is set to
“Speak.” If set to “Do Nothing” this information will not be spoken by
VoiceOver.

At the time of posting, we are unaware of any additional changes for blind and
low vision users in these releases. However, as we always stress, we are a
small team; and it is not possible for us to test all devices, configurations,
or use cases. Thus, if you do observe any changes during your own use of iOS
15.6 or iPadOS 15.6, please do let us know your findings in the comments.

Release Notes

iOS 15.6 includes enhancements, bug fixes and security updates.

TV app adds the option to restart a live sports game already in progress and
pause, rewind, or fast-forward;
Fixes an issue where Settings may continue to display that device storage is
full even if it is available;
Fixes an issue that may cause braille devices to slow down or stop responding
when navigating text in Mail;
Fixes an issue in Safari where a tab may revert to a previous page.

The quiz might be out of date, the S5 is no longer available, the S7 is newer
and better anyway. The Q5 does not mop but the Q7 and Q7 max will but the mop
does not vibrate like it does with the S7 series.

Has your volume drop down on your iPhone?

2022-07-20 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Everyone,

It seem to me that my volume has drop down on my iPhone. First of all I have
turned my master volume up to 100 percent and have push up the volume
control button but the volume does not get as loud as it use too. Also the
volume does not go as loud on my wireless headsets as they did before. I
have never had to run my volume up at 100 percent or have my headset up much
higher. I have a 12 pro. In the phone ear piece it also does not get as loud
as it use too or the speaker. My friend has a 13 pro and he says the same
thing is happening to his phone. Has anyone else experience this issue with
in the last two months. I also contacted Apple and they check all my
settings and ran a diagnostics and said everything is fine.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Mr. Ed

Hi Sarah,

The ring app is quite accessible, we have a Ring Pro video doorbell and a
stick-up cam pointing into our backyard, but just wait until you actually get
into situations when somebody rings the doorbell, you get a notification on
your phone and have to try to act on it. I still don’t know why Ring makes it
so difficult and complicated to answer a press of the doorbell, it should be
like a phone call, you get the notification and you tap an “Answer” button
which immediately connects you to your doorbell, activates the microphone and
speaker and you can start talking. Unfortunately it is not that way and more
often than not the person at my door has gone away by the time I finally
connect.

And then of course don’t get me started on Alexa, Amazon owns Ring so one would
think it should be super easy to answer a doorbell button press with Alexa, but
once again it is not unless I am missing something. If Alexa plays a
notification on my Echo Show why can’t I say “Answer the doorbell” or “Talk to
my front door” or “Connect me to my doorbell”, really one would think that just
about anything should work, but it is very specific and finnicky.

I am looking for a two way intercom/doorbell system that is wired. I really
could care less about the video. Here is what I need it to do. When someone
rings my doorbell, Ineed to hear the ring on my phone alexa, indoor speaker or
whatever. I then need to be able to talk to the person who rang my bell to
find out if I want to let them in. I would like the system to be wired so I
don’t have to deal with changing batteries. I thought blink app was my answer.
However, I have never been able to hear the doorbell on either my phone or
alexa. Spoke with both amazon and blink tech suport and am quite discouraged.
According to them, I have to enable video and will then only get a visual
notification (picture) of someone at my door. Can anyone suggest something
that will work for me? Or, if you know that blink is accessible, can u help me
make it work? Thanks.

I am looking in to that as well. I would like to find one that can be wired in
rather than depending on batteries. The issue with battery operated devices is
that some of them involve unscrewing little screws to get tat the batteries.
Because of medical issues with my hands, I am not able to do that task

help.

RE: Another question about notes app

2022-07-20 Thread Rob Armstrong
Double-tap Settings.

Double-tap Accessibility.

Double-tap VoiceOver.

Double-tap Typing.

Swipe right until you reach Touch Typing and then double-tap.

Double-tap the Back button in the upper left corner of the screen several times
until you get out of Settings.

Now bring up any edit field. You should be able to find the letter you want to
enter and then lift your finger to enter the letter.

While you are in the Typing settings, you may want to review the Typing
Feedback section to make sure you receive the feedback you want when you are
typing.

Hello,

I finally realized why the note I tried to type using the iPhone keyboard
didn’t come out. I thought that the type of writing I had was this one that you
lift your finger when you find the letter you need. But not, I had the one that
you have to tap once you find the letter.

How can I change it? I prefer to lift my finger when I find the letter I want.

Sounds like you’re doing everything right to me. After you double tap on the
add note button, make sure you’re in the edit field and it has focus. Type what
you need to type into your note, and it should appear. You should see it when
you swipe around or explore the screen. Changing the roter to characters or
words swill also let you see what you’ve typed into the edit field. When you
tap the done button, it should still be there. When you go back to your folder
list, you should see the number of notes in your folder has increased by one.

When I type using the Bluetooth keyboard, later I find the note. However, now
I’m practicing typing directly on the iPhone, and although I click on done

Evidently, I’m doing something wrong. What should I do once I finish writing a

The best thing about a camera alert system, is that you can set it for motion
alert, and if a delivery man does not ring the bell, at least you can check the
door to get your package.

I have found the mailman will not ring the bell when they deliver a package to
the door, so the motion alert feature works great in that circumstance.

RE: ring, blink, or something altogether different

2022-07-20 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Indeed. We installed our Ring Video Pro four years or so ago and haven’t messed
with it since.

Regardless of which system you pick though, I think you’ll end up having the
same issue. In large part, people just don’t’ really hang around after ringing
the doorbell now a days since most things are so home delivery driven. Quick
tuck and roll and poof. Gone like a fart in the wind.

All in all, I at least have found the Ring to be less useful than I thought it
would be. Not useless, but just not as useful.

However, I have never been able to hear the doorbell on either my phone or

According to them, I have to enable video and will then only get a visual

that will work for me? Or, if you know that blink is accessible, can u help me
make it work? Thanks.

Thanks.

Sieghard, what you are saying is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I have
definitely decided to send my blink unit back as it appears that to many things
have to happen before I can find out whois at my door, the only thing I really
wanted to know. Smile!!

Unfortunately it is not that way and more
often than not the person at my door has gone away by the time I finally
connect.

Wonder if the cheaper ones are as accessible as the one you have. Were u able
to just use the audio features, or did u have to enable video as well?
