OT: Any E-Group for Android?

2022-12-19 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

Greetings from Mumbai India.

I am using Iphone 13 Pro and Google Pixel 7. Earlier there used to be
a group for Android called Eyes-free. Is there similar group? if not
then is there a group where both the systems are discussed? I will be
grateful for help.

Thank you.

With best wishes,

Ketan

Mantis Q40 and VoiceOver, space not working

2022-12-19 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has an idea on an issue I’m having with a Mantis Q40
and iOS.

Braille works for output and typing text works but for the spacebar. When I
enter a space on the Mantis, nothing is entered in to the program I’m using. I
have to use the touch keyboard on the phone.

Re: blu` tooth headphones

2022-12-19 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
They are the JBL500 headphones. The link is:

https://www.amazon.com/JBL-TUNE500BT-Wireless-Headphones-One-Button/dp/B07HGSN1TH/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1T6FK1BNHWCM7=JBL+500+headphones=1671492547=jbl+500+headp%2Caps%2C683=8-3

Also, do not get them from the harbolt company. They are on amazon
for $36. I paid considerably more for them from there. There is a
JBL headphone app for the headphones as well.

Hi Kayla,

I don’t think the microphone does anything; all I’ve heard is that you can
adjust the volume of the vocals, and the lyrics are closely synced to the music.

Best,

Re: blu` tooth headphones

2022-12-19 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
They are an okay set of headphones. I have them. When you are
looking at noise canceling headphones, it really comes down to price.
I recently picked up a set of anker space q45 headphones. They were
originally $150 and I got them on sale for $100 which I think is a
pretty good deal. Good luck.

the micro soft soundscape iOS app is being discontinued from January.
Current versions of the app that have been downloaded will be usable until
June 2023. Very surprised at this considering it seems to be a popular app
in the blind community.

Interesting!
Does it mean that I can install drop box in my iPhone? Where is it?
Also, if I decide to attach an external drive, is it any special kind of drive?
What about the adapter?
As you can see, I'm not too skillful about all these things. Please, explain.

There are a few ways to transfer files to and from an iOS or iPadOS device,
some geekier than others:

1. Via Dropbox

By far the easiest way is to put Dropbox on every computer, phone and tablet
you own. Just like iCloud, put something in Dropbox on one device, it appears
on all the others.

2. Purchase an external drive and adapter and use an application to read that
drive on your phone or tablet.

Attach the drive to your computer, load it up with whatever you want, then plug
it into your phone and transfer the files from the drive to the phone using the
Files or File Browser application.

3. From a Mac, just use iCloud Drive, or see below for how to set up a network
share:

4. Set up a network share on the system with the files to which you want access:

Here's how to do it from the gospel according to Microsoft:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/file-sharing-over-a-network-in-windows-b58704b2-f53a-4b82-7bc1-80f9994725bf

Here's how to do it on a Mac:

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-file-sharing-on-mac-mh17131/mac

On the iOS or iPadOS device, open Files or File Browser (if you have that
application) and add a network share as appropriate. You'll need the IP address
of your computer, and a username/password to access it. It's the same
username/password you use to log into it for normal use. If you don't log in to
your Windows machine but, as I do, have the thing come up at the Desktop and
you've forgotten your username, you can get that from Control Panel by
searching for "user" and choosing the appropriate option. Set up your Windows
network share to be as inclusive as you like because only you have access to it
over your local area network. Even those who visit your network won't have
access to it because they will presumably not know the password to that system
even if they know your username, so you're secure.

If the mp3 files are labeled in such a way that they will play in the right
order, like chapter01.mp3, chapter02.mp3 etc., my favorite way to do this is to
zip the files into one .zip file with the name of the book as the file name,
then import it into Voice Dream Reader.

Voice Dream Reader will take a zipped audio book and use the file name as the
name of the book and each file then will be its own chapter and you can pause
and come back to where you left off, you can drop bookmarks, etc.

Others may have suggestions too.

They're essentially the same kind of thing. They're both folders on your
devices. They both store files elsewhere. On the computer side, or in
the computer's case, files can get stored locally if you want them to
be, but on tablets and phones they are not ever stored locally because
if you have a large Dropbox you don't have that much storage in a phone
or tablet, therefore everything accessed online.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/file-sharing-over-a-network-in-windows-b58704b2-f53a-4b82-7bc1-80f9994725bf

Here's how to do it on a Mac:

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-file-sharing-on-mac-mh17131/mac

On the iOS or iPadOS device, open Files or File Browser (if you have
that application) and add a network share as appropriate. You'll need
the IP address of your computer, and a username/password to access it.
It's the same username/password you use to log into it for normal use.
If you don't log in to your Windows machine but, as I do, have the
thing come up at the Desktop and you've forgotten your username, you
can get that from Control Panel by searching for "user" and choosing
the appropriate option. Set up your Windows network share to be as
inclusive as you like because only you have access to it over your
local area network. Even those who visit your network won't have
access to it because they will presumably not know the password to
that system even if they know your username, so you're secure.

In addition, how should I transfer the files from pc to the phone?

If the mp3 files are labeled in such a way that they will play in
the right order, like chapter01.mp3, chapter02.mp3 etc., my
favorite way to do this is to zip the files into one .zip file
with the name of the book as the file name, then import it into
Voice Dream Reader.

Voice Dream Reader will take a zipped audio book and use the file
name as the name of the book and each file then will be its own
chapter and you can pause and come back to where you left off, you
can drop bookmarks, etc.

Others may have suggestions too.

I have noticed sometimes asking her to open something doesn’t work. Try saying
launch the particular app and sometimes it will work.

Sometimes I just don’t understand what Siri is doing. I just asked Siri to
“open bard Mobile“. This is a command I use a lot and I really never had a
problem with it until now. Upon issuing this command, I heard Siri respond you
don’t have anyone named Howard in your contacts. That is just about the dumbest
thing I’ve seen Siri do recently, and there have been a lot of similar
stupidity‘s on series part. I just don’t get it. Regular dictation seems quite
accurate. But interacting with Siri to get Siri to do something on the device?
Oh, brother! It’s like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. You never know what
you’re going to get.
I will say, however, that the only problem I seem to be having with dictation
these days is Siri putting periods where they do not be long. Apparently, Siri
thinks that any sort of complex sentence needs to be broken up even if it
really is a perfectly good sentence, and does not need To be broken up.

Re: Jeff Rutkowski has taken down his Audio Described movies page

2022-12-19 Thread pennylain5
Good morning, I understand that you need to be a member of the blind mice march in order to listen to the audio vault movies. Do you know of any other free described audio movies list? Thanks in advance.
