I have the Open Move from Shokz, which are great, but it may be hard to get
the volume high enough if you have a lot of ambient noise. The Bose Frames
will also do what you want, but they'll be a bit more expensive than your
options from Shokz. They'll give you a bit more volume. I haven't tried the
Open Fit from Shokz, but like the Bose Frames, they direct sound into your
ear and they're supposed to be louder than your bone conduction options. My
next headphones will be the Open Fit.

I'm curious about your statement about damaging your hearing would be more
likely with headphones over a speakers. Would that really make a difference?
If the volume is loud enough to hear over the ambient noise, would it really
make a difference if it's coming from a speaker versus a pair of open ear
headphones? Also, since bone conduction is skipping your ears altogether,
wouldn't they be the safest option? I don't know about any of this. I'm just
musing.

Sadly, with the open ear, or bone conduction headphones, the fact that they
let the surrounding sound in, means that if the sound is really loud, you
cannot hear the info through the earphones.
If you could, you would probably be damaging your hearing.
The Bluetooth speaker idea should work better.
I hope folks find what they need.

RE: Kindle on ipad issue

2024-03-02 Thread Richard Turner
I just tried a couple books from my Kindle library on my iPad Mini 6 and had no
trouble.

1. which voice are you using?

2. is that your default voice?

3. If it is, do you have detect language on under settings, VoiceOver, speech?

4. Which font did you change to?

I had some trouble reading with the default font, so I changed it to Open
Dyslexic and it reads fine.

The font makes no difference to me since I am totally blind, but apparently it
made a difference to the app..

Hello list

I purchased a kindle book and I made sure that the product details state that
text to speech and screen readers are enabled but the book does not play
correctly on my iPad. The moment I swipe down with two fingers for continuous
reading it sounds if there are no spaces between words and if there are strange
sounds, like a different language. I changed the font and size of text but the
problem continues. Has anyone encountered this or should I just return the
book. The problem is that it is not the first time that I encounter this
problem and it is just strange that the kindle app can not read books meant for
kindle.

The Olodance Open earphones are good or I have just purchased the one more fit
S 50.

They both have decent volumes and allow you to still hear your environment.
They just hooked behind your ears and rest just at the entrance without
actually going right in your ear. Hope this helps.

You can find the details of the Bluetooth speaker by following this link, Lisa.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B11LNX21/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8=1

It’s £78 at the moment but is usually £96.

It’s got the volume up and down on the top, and in the middle of those is the
on/off button. It speaks when you power it up so you know it’s on and gives
battery level. It clips on to your collar, or you could attach to a rucksack
strap, belt or waist strap etc.
it’s about an inch across and the same in height, you can’t tell you’ve got it
on. Easy to use, volume is very good, my friend has used it on main roads and
it’s great. Connects to the phone easily, no drop-outs at all.
My friend says she can think of no negatives to it that she can think of.

RE: Open-Ear or Bone Conduction Wireless Headphones for Safe Travel in Noisy High Traffic Areas

2024-03-02 Thread CJ & AA MAY
I have something very similar and am very pleased with it, particularly when
playing music, but I think it would be a bit clunky to wear outdoors.

I have what is called a neck speaker with 3d sound. It is shaped like a
horseshoe and hangs around your neck. it has decent volume and bass. i was
able to use it on our noisey paratransit busses.

Sadly, with the open ear, or bone conduction headphones, the fact that they let
the surrounding sound in, means that if the sound is really loud, you cannot
hear the info through the earphones.
If you could, you would probably be damaging your hearing.
The Bluetooth speaker idea should work better.
I hope folks find what they need.

Alice, this sounds interesting. Can you ask your friend what the brand of her

Kindle on ipad issue

2024-03-02 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello list
I purchased a kindle book and I made sure that the product details state
that text to speech and screen readers are enabled but the book does not
play correctly on my iPad. The moment I swipe down with two fingers for
continuous reading it sounds if there are no spaces between words and if
there are strange sounds, like a different language. I changed the font and
size of text but the problem continues. Has anyone encountered this or
should I just return the book. The problem is that it is not the first time
that I encounter this problem and it is just strange that the kindle app
can not read books meant for kindle.
Regards
Fanus

2024-03-02 Thread Suzy Djouma
The Olodance Open earphones are good or I have just purchased the one more fit
S 50.
They both have decent volumes and allow you to still hear your environment.
They just hooked behind your ears and rest just at the entrance without
actually going right in your ear. Hope this helps.
