Google calendar
Is there anyone on the list using the CalenMob Google calendar iPhone app? When setting an alert for an upcoming appointment there is the option to have an SMS alert. I have tried setting this, but do not receive any texts. What do I need to do to get the SMS alerts to work? Many help in advance for replies. Kindle Issue
Hi Was wondering if anyone else had encountered this issue and if so, could they shed any light on it? It has only happened on two of my books so far, so it seems to be random, or there is a reason for it I hope someone knows. When I open the book and do the two fingered swipe down for continuous reading, VO reads a few lines, then stops and the “Before you go” Menu is launched, the one that comes up when you have reached the end of the book asking you to review it. If I dismiss this and go back to the book, the same thing happens. So I am actually unable to read the book as I get a few seconds and then this menu pops up. Has anyone else experienced this? Or know if there is a reason it happens on some books? Thanks. Barbara -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Hand placement with Braille Touch
I think the basic idea of the app is great, but the holding position has many flaws. Re: Repeating tap tap see results
No Carol, you just take a pic and the app does a very good job of identifying the object. You don't need to do anything else. I think this app is one of the best I have ever downloaded. Here are a few of the things I've tested it on with great success, trying it out for a class of students thinking of buying iPhones. Identified a ten pound note, identified shampoo and conditioner bottles, told me colour of shirts, told me pattern on duvet, identified jar of coffee, identified can of coke, read title of CD, and more. Been chatting to others on Twitter and the overall verdict is that this app is great. I don't know how it works, just that it does, and brilliantly. Re: Volume when on a call
I am using a 5 and all of your suggestions sound like a bit of a hassle. It only really annoys me because I can’t hear when it announces who is calling, and it is sometimes hard to find exactly where to tap to answer when the screen is unlocked. Thanks anyway. From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Friday, November 09, 2012 3:25 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Volume when on a call Hi Barbara, Only thing you can do is add Volume to the rotor and then once you are on a call, turn the rotor to volume, flick Voiceover volume up to 100% and try and turn down the call volume using the volume down button. You have to make of course sure that “change volume with buttons” is turned on in Sounds. If that doesn’t work you are one of the small percentage of people (at least according to Apple Accessibility it’s a small percentage) who are affected by this. They also told me that it mainly affects iPhone 4S users, but if you have a 5 and experience this then apparently that is not so. This is definitely a bug on my 4S and I have tried everything they suggested including turning off SIRI which they told me could have an effect, but it made no difference. I suggest you definitely want to write accessibil...@apple.com and tell hem that you are having this issue on an iPhone 5. For those who have that problem I would say it’s the most serious iOS 6 issue because it really makes it very hard and in louder environments impossible to place a call where you have to enter numbers while following prompts from a system. You can, of course, get around this by using the headset. From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Friday, November 09, 2012 4:30 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Volume when on a call Hi Barbara, I think I misunderstood then. I thought you were referring to entering numbers during a call using the speakerphone like when you call your bank for example and have to enter your account number etc. If you just can’t hear Voiceover announce who is calling you should be able to adjust that with the Voiceover volume rotor and once it is set you won’t have to do it again. As far as finding the Answer button that also is easy. Just put your finger on the Home Key, then slide it up and a bit to the right (about 1 or 2 o’clock from the Home Key, and you will be on the answer button. Re: Answering a Call
Thanks for that detailed info. I was asking for a sighted person who was finding it difficult to slide to answer and does not use a headset. I think slide would be easier for them than tapping options to be given more options. Shame you can’t answer with voice though. Barbara From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2012 1:46 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Answering a Call Hi Barbara, You can’t answer by voice, of course you can answer very easily if your headset is connected by pressing the answer/hang-up button which is also the Play/Pause button when you are not on a call. It is the slightly resessed middle area on the headsets remote. I rarely answer with a 2-finger double tap since it’s very easy to find the “Slide to Answer” control. The choices are slightly different depending on whether your phone is locked when the call comes in or whether you are doing something and it’s unlocked. Keep in mind that you can press either the volume up or down key when it is ringing and this will mute the ringer which of course makes it a lot easier to hear Voiceover. If you hear the caller Id and decide you don’t want to take the call you can press the Power button twice quickly and that will decline the call and send it to Voicemail. OK, so here is what I do when the phone is locked: As soon as the phone rings you only have 3 things on the screen: The caller’s identity, either their name if they are in your contacts or the phone number. A large “Slide to answer” control This si super easy to find as it takes up the entire bottom area above the home key exactly like the “Slide to Unlock” control. You can just put your finger on the home key, then slide up a bit and you will hear “Slide to Answer”, now double tap anywhere and the call is answered. If you want to hear the caller’s identity again, do the same and when you hear “Slide to Answer” just do a quick single finger flick left and Voiceover reads the caller’s identity/phone number. Do a single finger flick right and you are on the “Call Options” button which I explain next. Third and this is new in iOS 6 is the “Call Options” button. If you double tap it you get a new screen with the following 6 items from top to bottom: 1. Caller’s identity 2. Decline button 3. Answer button 4. Call Options button (this will hide that screen again if you tap it) 5. Reply with Message button (I am always placed on this by default it seems after I double tap Call Options” If you double tap you get to choose 1 of 3 pre-programmed messages and the caller will get a text message with the text of whichever message you pick. You can configure what these messages say in “Settings”, “Phone” and “Reply with message”. All 3 messages start with “Can’t talk right now” and then whichever custom text you set up, e.g. Please call me back in 10 minutes. Thank You.” 6. Remind Me Later button Double tap this and you can choose from the following: 1 hour When I leave When I get Home When I get to Work I assume the “When I get Home” or “When I get to Work” options of course depend on whether you set up your home and work address as the phone has to know who you are and what these locations are. The “When I leave” would most likely refer to wherever you are currently and the geofence would bbe set up based on your current GPS location. The “In 1 hour” reminder is of course a simple time based reminder, the others are location based reminders and you want to keep this in mind because as soon as you set up a location based reminder your phone constantly monitors your location and this will use more battery. OK, second scenario is that your phone is unlocked and it rings. Now instead of one large “Slide to Answer” along the bottom you have “Decline from the left edge to about the middle above the home key and “Answer” from the home key to the right and on the very right is the “Call Options” button. Your caller identification is displayed above. It is once again very easy. Put your finger on the home key and slide up and to the right just a bit, maybe towards the 1 o’clock position. This will put you right on the Answer button. Should you for some reason are on “Decline”, just do a quick single finger flick right and you are on Answer. If you slide to high and you hear the caller’s name or phone number, flick right twice, first time it will go to Decline, second time to Answer. If you want the Call Options flick right once if you are on Answer or twice if you are on Decline. I highly recommend you use your landline or, if you don’t have one, visit a friend or family and ask them to call you repeatedly to become familiar with the layout and practice this. If you want to use the Call Options to Reply with Message, for example, you don’t actually have to have this all done before it goes to Voicemail. As long as you get to

Place your finger on the screen for a second or two and it will speak the letter you are on. Type your word as you normally would outside of Fleksy. Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store
Rob The keyboard is only spoken when you place your finger on the screen and hold it there to enter characters manually. Using Fleksy the way it is intended, you simply type the word you want to type, approximating where the letters are on the screen. Then Fleksy will use that pattern to predict the word. I've found the majority of the time it is correct. If they suggest a different word, you simply swipe one finger downwards to hear alternatives. After you type a word, you swipt right with one finger to hear Fleksy's suggestion. If correct, you just start typing the next word. If you need to use the down swipe to hear alternatives, once you find the one you want you start typing the next word. It means you can type a lot faster as you don't need to find a letter, listen to VO announce it and then type it. You just type out the pattern of tht word and it doesn't have to be exact for Fleksy to recognise it. Within the app itself is a link to the instructions on the Website and these are very short but extremely clear. Hope this helps. Hi Wayne I never got the hang of predictive text on the iPhone, funny how we all can/can't do different things? I did think about the price, but thought I would take the plunge. I can already see how it will make me do things a lot faster and while I still think it is on the expensive side, I do think I'll get my value for money. I thought using predictive texting was slow on my old Nokia phone with Talks, and then I discovered how to add words to the dictionary it used. All of a sudden, predictive texting became more fun and useful for me. I am still on the fence about Fleksy due to the price and the initial version. I think I will wait to see what is added/fixed in coming versions, but it is on my apps to watch list. I've also got an external Bluetooth keyboard and have just learned how to do auto correct on the iPhone. Fleksy sounds extremely useful though. Rather than making it the default keyboard, would be good to have as a keyboard option to integrate with any app. Maybe in the future. Barbara -Original Message- From: Sandy Tomkins Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 1:57 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Ok! - from Fleksy Hi Ricardo, I don't think that could happen quite yet as there are just a few shortcomings yet to be improved. For example; just now I tried to type super dooper but could not input dooper as it wasn't recognised as a real word. As I, for one, love to use words of my own devising, i could get too frustrated if my only and default method of input were to insist that all my words be recognisable. At the moment, I think this is a fabulous tool for fast, accurate, and intuitive typing and i would love to see it, rather like the dictation option on the 4s, as an option alongside the default keyboard, but do need to keep the old method available. However, placing the app in the doc means that I can use it after just one click of the home button, once in the app I have the option to email, message and copy, to name just a few. I have tried them all and all work well! plus, having chosen copy, I found it easy to adjust and correct my text before sending it. In this way, one could overcome the odd shortcoming. Go for it! I don't think I have bought an app so worth the dosh for ages! Sandy. Fleksy
Typing this email using the Fleksy app. Yes it is I think overpriced at just over ten pound, but I felt it was something I wanted to try. I personally think if we want applications like this to improve, it is important to provide feedback. This we can only do by using them. I would like to use my iPhone more for emailing, but find it just too slow. If this allows me to type faster and therefore me more productive, then I will consider it money well spent. Without Fleksy I would never have attempted to type a message of this length on the iPhone. Yes there are many improvements to be made, but on first use I am extremely impressed. Re: horse racing ap?
Hi Simon Racing Post is very accessible. It gaves you the races by meeting, or in time order, whichever you prefer. And within each race, it gaves form info, jockey, trainer, odds etc. The William Hill app is also very good and allows you to bet on other sports as well. The Racing UK app can also be linked to a William Hill account and it gives tips for each race coming up. Kind Regards Barbara From: goshawk on horseback Sent: Friday, June 15, 2012 5:54 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com ; blindapp...@yahoogroups.com Subject: horse racing ap? hello all, is there an accessible AP out there, that would give me access to race info, and if possible, if I had an online account, would let me place bets? it would be good if it would first give me details of where racing is taking place on a particular day, and then, once I have chosen a course, say kempton, would give me access to the details of the races, with an option to look at form info. I hope I have explained this fully. Simon -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
