Re: Lire or Newsify
Hallo richard and all, I think, Lire would be a good choice for you. It can cache the full text of all the articles and it provides a very nice and efficient reading experience. The current version also supports Feed sync with Feedli, which gives you a nice cross-device or even cross-platform experience. I believe that all the other RSS clients mentioned here do not perform a full-text cache. However, someone who uses them might tell us about. I tried them, but found their reading experience not as good as in Lire. There was a one-time fee to be able to cache an unlimited number of articles. However, I couldn't find this option mentioned in the App Store description, any more. Maybe it has been dropped. Greetings Jan --- MouseKick - The mice are coming! Re: Help for developers
Hallo, for iOS a good starting point for developers is the "Accessibility Programming Guide for iOS" that can be found on Apple's developer portal at: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/iPhoneAccessibility/Introduction/Introduction.html For Mac, there are the "Accessibility Programming Guidelines for Mac" at: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Accessibility/cocoaAXIntro/cocoaAXintro.html Both documents provide developers all they need to start developing accessible apps. MouseKick update
Hallo all, MouseKick version 1.0.1 has just been released. It fixes the orientation bug that sometimes messed up the game and training view. Now, MouseKick will always stay in landscape, regardless of how you hold your device or whether an orientation lock is active or not. Re: mousekick correction
Hallo Zoe, okay, at the moment, I do not know what the problem is. The exit gesture works well on an iPhone 4S, here. Although I know that it is not a good solution, I can only recommend you to turn VoiceOver of and to press the back button in the lower left, then. I have to think about an alternative exit method for VoiceOver users. I hope that you will have some fun, anyway. Greetings Jan --- MouseKick - The mice are coming! Re: mousekick help please
Hallo Zoe, okay, then the orientation is not the problem. On which device do you play MouseKick? If the three-finger swipe to the left doesn't work at all, there is a workaround to leave the training mode: There is, indeed, a back button on the screen in the lower left corner of the screen. However, you cannot reach it with VoiceOver, since I want to save a blind user from accidentally hitting it. The finger swipe should provide the same functionality. If you turn VoiceOver off, you can tap the button and leave the training mode. The same button also appears in a real game. However, we have to find out, why the swipe gesture doesn't work, since this is the preferred way to quit a game. Greetings Jan --- MouseKick - The mice are coming! MouseKick for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Hello VIPhone-list, I would like to point your interest to my new iOS app MouseKick. It is a game, where you have to tap appearing mice in a cheese as fast as you can. It can be played by both, sighted and visually impaired users. Apart from the nice animation, the mice also do have their individual sounds, which guide us to the right position on screen. There is a training mode to learn those sounds. To get an impression of the MouseKick-Sounds, please watch the Trailer on YouTube at: http://youtu.be/tLe4ygQA-xM You can play various game modes, in normal or in blind mode. If you know the sounds, the blind mode is a bit easier to play. The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver. MouseKick can be found on the App Store at: http://AppStore.com/MouseKick Additional information can be found on the support web site at: http://visorApps.com/MouseKick If you have questions, hints, or comments, please contact me over the list or off-list at supp...@visorapps.com. Any feedback is very much appreciated. If you like the app, please recommend it to your friends and rate it in the App Store. Have fun! Jan --- MouseKick - The mice are coming! Re: Test flight app
Hallo Jordan, I do use TestFlight to beta test my apps for about a year. So far, I only used the web interface at testfligtapp.com and the iOS app for downloading new versions. Both are quite accessible. There are some minor issues on the web page, but in general, it works fine. Re: Accessible Color identifier
Hallo Lauren, I'm sorry that you haven't much luck with the ColorVisor, so far. Using a camera to identify colors is sometimes a bit tricky, but it is possible to get reliable results. Whenever you move the camera to focus a new object, your device will perform a calibration process to adopt to the new optical conditions (auto focus, exposure, white balance etc.). This may take a number of seconds. During this time color identification is not reliable and may sound quite as random. The default settings of version 2.0 of the ColorVisor are that you hear a calibration sound to indicate that the process is running. Additionally, VoiceOver won't speak color names during this time. Once the calibration settled down, color identification is quite accurate. Of course, there still remains the old problem of light conditions. If you try to scan a structured object, such as folded clothes, it might produce shadows on its own, leading to a number of different colors on the same object. There is a general rule: the more space is between the camera and the object, the more accurate is the color identification. However, then it is harder to focus the region of interest. I'm trying to find a solution for this. You may also try to reduce the number of detected colors. This can be done in the Color Scanner Settings of version 2.0 of the ColorVisor by choosing ColorVisor basic as the reference color palette. Then you will get only basic colors such as red, dark blue or light green. I hope this gave you some insight into the color recognition process and encouraged you to give the thing another try. You can always contact me about problems, hints or comments. Re: color visor
Hallo Scott, yes, you could identify the triangle. It has a clear structure and if it is presented on a one-colored background, you will see it by tapping onto the picture. In real life photographies, however, it might be much harder, since you often do not have taht clear borders. The life scan mode might be also interesting for exploring your environment. Since it is based on camera images, you can also scan distant objects. I was once sitting on a bench and played around with the ColorVisor. I was able to distinguish between the grey stone path and the green gras next to it and could folow the path with the camera. If course, this method is very slow and of course not the ultimate solution, but it was quite nice. Greetings Jan --- ColorVisor - The app to identify colors. Re: color visor
Hi Scott, I just tried this here and was able to identify a white and a red wire of a double wired cabel. Each wire was less than a millimeter in diameter. However, it is a bit more to do about it. First, as already mentioned here, a black or dark background brings better results. Catching the wire in life scan may work, but is hard to achieve. The better solution is to bring the camera lense very close to the wire (1 centimeter or something like that) and then take a picture with the Fire button in the center bottom of the screen. The ColorVisor will bring up the PhotoScanner mode with the just taken photo in the upper part of the screen. You can tap onto the picture and ColorVisor will deliver you the color under your finger. Since the wire was so close to the camera it s size on the photo was quite large and I was able to find it within some seconds. The more far the wire is away the more difficult would it be to find it on the picture. Since the wire is round, there are different light conditions at different parts of the surface. In my case, the white wire delivered colrs like White, Ivory or light rose and the red one next to it something like Dark Red, Tomato and Firebrick. I did this without torch turned on, since taking the photo with flash yield in a completely white picture. Therefore, light conditions have to be taken into account. I hope that did help you and gave you an impression. Greetings Jan --- ColorVisor - The app to identify colors. Hallo Larry, thank you for buying the ColorVisor. I'm sorry that you haven't that much luck with it from the beginning. Did you solved the problem, meanwhile? As Richard said, if you are in normal light conditions you may hold the camera a few inch away from the object. Take care about the shadow of your iPhone if you know the direction the light is coming from. If this doesn't work, turn on the torch by tapping the torch button at the bottom of the screen or simply shake your device. With the torch on, you may even lay your iPhone directly on the object. Sometimes, you may have different colors from the same uni-colored object. For example, if you scan clothes that are somehow folded or do have a lot of structure such as wool, there might be the original blue at one position and dark blue, violet or even dark grey at another position where shadows arise. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have further problems. There is also a support request built into the ColorVisor (press the Info-Button at the right center) to reach it. Re: new color visor app, and, IOS6 sluggish
Hallo Kerri, did you already update to version 2.0 of the ColorVisor? In this new version, the verbosity of the color announcement has been reduced by default and is configurable. Apart from that, the ColorVisor measures continiously. Just let me know, if you have further problems. Greetings Jan --- ColorVisor - The app to identify colors. Re: ColorVisor version 2.0
Hallo Kawal, the ColorVisor has on its bottom three main tabs. Color recognition with the camera is in the left tab called ColorScanner, which is the default selection. If you are in the ColorScanner tab, the app continiously scans the color with the backward camera as default (you can change the camera with a button on the screen). Whenever the camera is calibrating itself, a constant sound is played (Version 2.0). This happens quite often and every time you move the device. So you have to focus the object you want to identify and keep the device still. After some seconds, the calibration sound will stop and VoiceOver will announce the detected color. There are two ways to focus an object. First, hold the camera 5 to 10 centimeters away from it. This works very well if the light conditions are optimal. However, incoming light or shadow will effect the measurement and you have to take care about it. The second method is to turn on the torch (if available). You can do this by shaking the iPhone or find the appropriate button on the screen. Then, lay the camera close onto the object to eliminate all light influences from the environment. The results are not as good as with the first method under optimal conditions, but they are good enough and you have control over the light conditions. The only exception for this mehtod are very light and white surfaces. The best result you can get is grey and often the camera shifts the white color to even green. This is an issue of the camera and the image processing. It is possible to scan white surfaces with the first method, which, by the way, can be also used by all iPod touch and iPad owners who do not have the opportunity of using the torch. I hope this did help you a bit. You will find a user manual of the ColorVisor in the app or on the support web site at http://visorApps.com/ColorVisor. There is also a nice AppleVis podcast about the ColorVisor at: http://www.applevis.com/podcast/episodes/color-recognition-apps-part-1-colorvisor which might give you an expression. Note, the podcast covers version 1.1 of the ColorVisor and there have been introduced some major changes in version 2.0. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
