I often use a nob twisting motion with my thumb and index or middle finger or simply plant my index finger somewhere on the screen and use my middle finger to swipe somewhere else on the screen and generate the rotor action that way. I'll also just plant my index finger and place my middle finger on another part of the screen and rotate my wrist to cycle through the various options in a faster manner. That or just plant both fingers separated on the screen and rotate the phone while leaving my fingers locked in position. It all depends on how I'm positioned in relation to the phone. Sitting, stretched out on the couch, reclined in bed etc. I think I probably have more difficulty with the four finger tap for getting to the top or bottom of the screen. That's more a function of my big mits and the narrowness of the iPhone though I imagine. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kimber Gardner Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2012 9:58 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: The Rotor, a possible replacement gesture The roter seems to be my biggest problem with VO whether on the phone or the MacAir. Rather than using two fingers on the same hand, I use both index fingers and move them in opposite directions. It's based on John's idea but requires both hands and so may not be suitable for everyone. Now maybe it's something with the callouses on my abused fingers but for whatever reason, I have not found rotoring to be to my liking, until today! I was wondering first of all how much spacing between the fingers was possible and apparently the answer is, a lot. What I have found most useful now, and this does work on any of the phone's edges so that portrait or landscape modes shouldn't affect this methid, is to use two fingers near the edges of the screen. Pretend the phone has a set of railroad tracks on it and that each of your fingers represents a traing going in the opposite direction. As long as both fingers move, the gesture seems to be picked up consistently. I just tried this way of changing rotor settings with a person who swore that rotoring was never going to be a useful gesture because of the frustration it seems to bring to many novice IOS/VO users and the result was that all of the rotor's settings changed correctly on the first and every try. So maybe some folks want to give this method a try and hopefully the results will be as rewarding as they have been here so far. Now I may have to try that pinching gesture folks talk about next. Caveat on the Griffin extended Length charging/syncing usb cable.
This cable has a rather large plastic collar around the metal sleave that plugs into the iphone end, and thus might not fully insert when using an otterbox (or knock off) double layered case. Re: Is there any accessory that you can buy that will work with iPhone 4 s and iPod touch 4 to give it an FM tuner?
Yeah the 6th gen has the fm tuner which is accessible with VoiceOver which that model also has. Its out now. Comes 8 or 16 gb. Its clock is accessible as is voice memos. It's actually running iOS but there is no video recording or playback. If you have video podcasts, you'll only hear audio. There's also a pedometer. Egun On, Lagunak! Basque for G'day, Mates Louie P. I did that too, although, the only inaccessible part I found on the other app was how to go back a page. Kim -Original Message- From: Christina [mailto:blindmaclo...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2012 9:50 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: My minimal experiences with voiceBook for faceBook Hello listers, I find the app super easy to use. I love the way it reads my friend's posts to me. That's just me though. I figured out a few things. 1. I could not get the app to work properly once I authorized the app through faceBook. However, I cleared all of the apps from my app switcher including the voiceBook app and the faceBook app. Then I did a quick reboot by quickly pressing the lock button five times. After that the app worked. I don't know if the restart of my iPhone was necessary but I did that just in case. 2. Flicking up and down does move me through my newsfeed. If I double tap on a newsfeed item, then a sort of menu page opens. There are many options including, like, who likes this, comment, status, go to top, go to bottom, refresh, done, and voiceBook settings.. 3. In voiceBook settings I was able to turn application posts off. I really do not want to see who is playing farm games and such. I was really happy to see this option in settings. 4. If you select the option to leave a comment, it will bring you to a screen that says post status or something like that. I was afraid I had hit the wrong choice; however, it was indeed where I was to leave a comment. I tested it. Find the text box, double tap it, and type away. Then flick to the left and the button is labeled save. Double tap the save button and your comment should post. This procedure is the same if you choose the status button and you want to post your status for your friends. 5. The refresh button does refresh your newsfeed. I then had to double tap on the newsfeed item currently on my screen to get to the menu to go to the top of the screen. I don't know if I would have been brought to the top of the newsfeed if I were more patient and waited for the refresh to complete though. That's about all I have figured out so far. I did leave a status update and a friend commented. I know this because the official faceBook app sent my iPhone a notification. I have not experimented with how to easily and quickly reply to this comment. So far, I have not found anywhere on this app to access any notifications. :) It may or may not exist. Best of luck to you all. Overall, it's a clean, and very simple app that I am quite happy with to read my friends posts. The reason for this is that, since updating I suspect, your Wi-Fi connection has dropped out. Yours is the first I've heard happening on an iPad, however. I suggest you do the following from time-to-time during the next 24 hours or so: 1. Power cycle your iOS device. Be sure not to launch any apps after the system is up and running. 2. On your iOS device, go to Settings. 3. Confirm that you are connected to your selected Wi-Fi. You can do this by simply touching the appropriate Item in the Settings list; that is, there is no need to actually open the Wi-Fi menu item. 4. Assuming that your Wi-Fi does not say Not Connected, close the Settings area and make sure focus is placed back on your normal iOS launch pad. 5. Lock your iOS device by pressing the Sleep/Wake button. 6. After about 10 minutes or so, wake-up your device and go into the Settings area and check to see if the Wi-Fi is still connected. Chances are, it will report that it is not connected. Melissa, if you find that you are losing your Wi-Fi connection, you may need to reset all of your network settings. This should fix the problem. To everyone: Please be aware that I have discovered several apps that seem to break Wi-Fi connectivity since 5.1.1 was released. I have removed them from my iOS device and now my Wi-Fi connection is rock-solid, again. The apps I removed were the CNN USA App and both of the Time Warner cable Apps.
