My experience with the NLS Reader

2022-04-02 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
This is Priscilla. I have a couple questions since I am new to the NLS E-Reader
pilot program and just received the NLS E-Reader because my library just got
onboard.
So far, I’ve had it for a week.
I called my local Talking-book and Braille library and they said that they are
currently participating in the pilot program. Some of my observations of the
Humanware NLS E-reader are as follows:
When opening the cardboard box containing the device, I got very excited
because the braille display felt just right and pretty comfortable for me to
use. I liked the ergonomic keys and the fact that the space keys were further
apart from the braille display. That position is more comfortable for me, and
the keys felt rather large. But then again,I have small hands and fingers
because I’m very petite.
It came with two lanyards, one for the case holding the braille display, and
the other one for the braille display itself. When closed, the braille display
looks like a small hardcover book which is cute, and with the straps, it feels
like wearing a cute pocketbook.
They’re meant to be hung around the neck, but I would prefer to use them as a
shoulder strap and wear it as a small purse. Beware that the straps are indeed
skinny and fragile, so you cannot put too much force on them. I’d prefer
thicker straps with a stronger clip.
Personally, I’d rather carry it in my regular purse than just by itself because
chances are that one of the clips can break easily if not careful.

One thing I would like to have is the ability to use it as a basic notetaker
though.
I have a Macbook air M1 computer using VoiceOver, and to my surprise, it works
beautifully when I connect it using the USBC cable that came with my laptop. It
also charges the display which is a bonus, and I don’t need to bring multiple
cables if I need to travel. I can leave the charger and cable at home.
It also connects to my iPhone using bluetooth like all other devices.
In comparison to the freedom scientific focus 40 braille display, the keys work
better for me on this one and are quieter. I also like the fact that you can
connect USB drives to the braille E-Reader.
As for the focus 40 braille display I mainly use it for editing on my computer.
With the focus 40, you need to bring the extra bulky charger which I don’t like
because it doesn’t have the ability to charge using my computer. But with this
new Humanware E-reader, you can do that, and it has a separate cable and wall
charger which is a lot better.
The braille feels crisp for me to read. Also the cursor routing buttons feel
like bump dots.
It also has a memory card slot to insert a memory card which I like.
I connected my bard account and it is a breeze to download books onto the
device rather than getting the extra cable and hooking it up to the included
cartridge to load the book.
I tried using a USB flash drive and it worked well. So far, I was able to open
PDF files on it. However, I was disappointed in finding out that you cannot
open word or powerpoint documents.
I connected my external drive , and was disappointed because it said USB
connection failed.

I have a question though,
I’ve heard that at the end of the pilot program, you can keep the device if you
want? How does this work? Do you have to email a completed transfer of
ownership form for that after you do all the surveys? From my experience, I had
a school-issued laptop, and once you graduate you fill out a transfer of
ownership form proving that you completed all required courses, final exams and
papers.

Because if that is the case, that would be of great use for me in the future
since I plan to go back to school someday or attend other conferences.
Also, what has been your experience with the NLS E-Reader. I believe I got the
new version.
It’s so small that I can carry it in my handbag and use it as a braille
keyboard for my phone.
Why didn’t I do that instead of buying a keyboard case for my iPad during the
Covid19 pandemic? Laughing out loud .
I wish I knew this sooner though.
Is this the smart brilliant VX braille display from humanwhare or another model?
Just wondering.

Thank you, and I hope this helps
Kind regards,

Priscilla

Re: A great gift idea for blind iDevice enthusiasts

2022-03-01 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Oh that is so interesting. Do you have to assemble it? How does that work?
Does it have any moving parts? Is it like a puzzle?

Mac screenshots

2021-10-15 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope this message finds you well. I am just wondering, Does anyone know if
there is a shortcut to take screenshots on a Mac? I know there is one on the
iPhone which involves pressing the volume button and power button at the same
time. Does anyone use the Screen Shot feature on zoom? How can you take
screenshots using VoiceOver? Is it tricky for people who are totally blind?
Is there a shortcut to take a screenshot and zoom? I cannot figure out how to
do this.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Best,
Priscilla

Re: Accessible pulse oxymeter

2021-09-23 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
I hope all of you are staying well and healthy. The Apple Watch series 6 has
the pulse oximeter which is totally accessible. That is the only one that I
know of. I haven’t heard of other accessible pulse oximeter‘s. This is
critically important if you have COVID-19 or if you are battling the disease.
covid is scary enough for most people but it’s even scarier for us since we
cannot really monitor our symptoms because of the lack of accessibility of
medical equipment.
If anyone knows of accessible pulse oximeter‘s besides the Apple Watch, that
would be good to include on this thread for reference.

 Hello all.
asking for a friend Any recommendation for an accessible Pulse
oximeter that would work with iPhone or had a built in speech output?
Concord health supply does advertise one on its website but it is out of
stock. Cvs has a talking oximeter but One of the reviews says it does
not talk. Any recommendation will be welcome.

Re: Could a smart backpack replace guide dogs? Researchers think so. - The Washington Post

2021-05-23 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
I thought it would be a good read since we’re talking about technology being
helpful to supplement the tools we already have.
If they had a robot dog as a guide, I’d sign up so long as the AI is suitable
enough to help me have an easier time navigating open spaces and other settings.

Re: Turning touchpad on and off on Macbook Air M1

2021-05-19 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
Hope you’re doing well today.
To turn off the touchpad commander, first press and hold the control and option
keys at the same time, and then the second step is to rotate the thumb and
index fingers on the trackpad to the left until you hear “Trackpad commander
off" along with a beep.
To turn it on, repeat the first and second step in reverse. By rotating to the
right until you hear “trackpad commander on”.

Thank you.

Re: Preferred calendar app recommendations

2021-05-04 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
I use the apple calendar app because it{s very accessible. I like that it syncs
directly to my devices like my laptop, iPad, and watch. I also use the Google
calendar app as a backup to the apple calendar app.
I also recommend the google calendar app because it is as accessible as the
apple calendar app.
I rather manage all of my task on 1 or two calendar apps, and google calendar
is good for creating reminders, tasks and goals, and it reminds you to complete
tasks.

Re: Considering purchasing an iPad

2021-04-25 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
Hope all of you are doing well.
I purchased an iPad back in 2018. I purchased it mainly for note taking on the
go whenever I had to attend meetings, conferences, and other events where my
laptop isn’t practical, especially on long commutes. I had a MacBook Pro which
can easily get heavy for me with the additional accessories.
Oftentimes, I come home feeling tired because my muscles hurt from carrying the
gear around, but let’s keep in mind that I’m a very petite person, so that
surely makes a big difference, and less is certainly more. With the pandemic, I
used the iPad less except when going out side on my back yard which I prefer
over my laptop because it’s considerably less costly to replace the iPad than
it is to replace my laptop if it accidentally breaks when it falls on the
concrete floor.
If you will be doing a lot of work on the go that requires note taking, I’d get
the iPad mini or regular iPad with bluetooth keyboard. I have a bluetooth
keyboard case I got from Amazon and it has a backlit keyboard which is
excellent for those who are partially sighted.
When I went to an NFB convention years ago, a lot of blind people used iPads
with refreshable braille displays as their notetakers rather than the dedicated
braille notetakers. Now it is getting harder to choose between the iPad and
laptop since they are now so similar in function with the advanced M1 chips.
For the price, you can either consider the MacBook Air if you want to fully
transition to the Mac, but if you own a windows computer, you can get the iPad
mini or regular iPad with bluetooth keyboard and braille display if you are a
starter in the apple ecosystem.
I have the MacBook Air and like it because it’s more ergonomic and smaller
than the MacBook Pro which had to be replace since it’s tapered at the bottom

Thank you.

Re: Mac big sur: how to turn on VoiceOver to enter my password?

2021-04-15 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone, I also got a shiny new Mac since my older MacBook Pro finally
broke because my screen wasn’t working and my battery wasn’t holding a charge
anymore.
I got the new MacBook Air because I found that using the Touch Bar would be an
issue being that I need the physical buttons to turn on VoiceOver. I preferred
the function keys since it is easier for me being that I’m totally blind. It is
easier if I use command F5 to activate and deactivate VoiceOver rather than
pressing the Touch ID button 3 times while holding the command button. + The
MacBook Air has a lighter footprint and smaller charger I can always carry in
my purse or pocket. I mostly use my Mac for basic word processing, email,
researching on the internet and videoconferences.

Some people read a lot of audiobooks and record Voice memos in addition to
photos and videos. The audio books that we listen to on audible and bard are
often downloaded on our phones which take up memory.
I’d get an iPad with a 1 TB option if it becomes available.

Hi,
You can try out the Walgreens app. It is a pretty good app that can remind you
about taking medicine.
Another one is called Medisafe.
It’s available at this link:

Mac OSBig sur

2020-11-17 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are doing well.
Does anyone currently own a Mac or have the current MacBook with the New M1
chip discussed in the recent WWDC Apple keynote?
If so, has anyone updated to the Latest Mac OS software which is Mac OS11, Big
Sur? If so, what new accessibility features have you discovered and/or find
useful? Can you start a document on a Mac and finish it on your iPhone.
Also, can you mirror the display on the Mac with the iPad or iPhone? For those
of you with some vision, what is screen mirroring anyway?
I just updated my current Mac with the new software, and I like the control
center in the menu bar. Prior to this new update, it was a hit or mis whenever
I hit Ctrl option M twice in a rapid succession to find the status menu.
Also, what is the sidecar feature, and does that work with the new iPads only?
I have the iPad 5th Generation.

Thank you.

Questions about TV fire sticks and TV fire cube from Amazon.

2020-11-12 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone, hope you are doing well. I have a question about the TV fire stick
and fire cube from Amazon.
Does anyone on either of these devices, TV fire stick or TV fire cube?
For those of you who have partial vision, how do these devices look like?
Are they standalone or do they have to connect to a TV?
Is setting up the firestick or fire cube accessible?
Do both of these devices work with Amazon Alexa?
And also, has anyone traveled with these devices?
I am curious because I have never seen them in person before and also for
informational purposes if I do decide on getting one of these to connect either
to my computer or TV.

thank you.

Re: looking for good portable bluetooth keyboard recommendations

2020-11-08 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
I have the iPad keyboard case i got from Amazon. It’s 50$ and it has worked
well for me. It doesn’t say the brand of the keyboard. It fits an iPad 9.7
inches. It is meant for the iPad Pro with similar de mentions which is why the
speakers are on all four sides. I have the iPad 5th generation which i
originally bought it since my laptop’s battery isn’t holding a charge as well
and needed the iPad for note taking at meetings. I really like the keyboard
because the keys are very comfortable to type with. But then again, i have
small hands which makes it a little bit harder to grip certain things like the
big lunch trays at school. It can be a little bulky because the case is made
of hard plastic, not like the thinner keyboard cases sold by apple which can be
a challenge typing on your lap. With this keyboard, i can type on my lap, but i
have to be careful not to bend the iPad backwards so that it doesn’t fall over.
The keyboard swivels 360 degrees and you can use it as just a tablet if you
have an iPad. The only thing I don’t really like about it is that it is not
removable. I’d love for it to be removable so that i can also bring it anywhere
and type on my iPhone or computer.
It is sold on amazon, and you can search iPad keyboard case for iPad 9.7
inches, backlit keyboard.

Interesting if that is the case. How does that work?

2020-10-16 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hello,

Hope this message finds you all well.
I have a Mac and I have used it for several years now. I have not used a
Windows PC since 2010, so, I have no idea about the recent advancements of the
jaws screen reader Because the last operating system within the windows
platforms was either windows XP or Vista if I recall well enough. After
graduating college, I decided to try out a Mac because one of my friends had
one and she was showing me all of the cool accessibility features on the Apple
max. Before purchasing, I went to take some classes at the Apple store and the
staff was nice enough to show me how to use voiceover. After I purchased my
first Mac laptop, I never looked back because the accessibility features were
great. In my opinion, they were better than the Jaws Screen reader I used to
use back then. My windows laptop was on its last leg anyway, so that was the
main reason why I purchased it at the time. Also, buying a Mac is
cost-effective because you do not have to spend additional money on making your
product more accessible. Not many blind people are able to afford paying a
premium price to get a screen reader that is essential for work or school,
unless an organization is willing to help with the cost associated Which also
means going through the process of sending in paperwork to prove that you are
either in school, looking for a job or at work in some cases.
Best,
Priscilla

Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced

2020-09-15 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Wouldn’t that constitute the same? Only because the adapter you might need for
the charging Cable to work is about $19. So, the price wouldn’t go down as much
by excluding the charger from the packaging. they might as well compensate by
giving us wireless chargers or at least a bundle that includes such products
that can charge wirelessly since most of their products have that feature Or
even wireless EarPods as a discount. .

Re: I O S 14

2020-09-15 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
I watched the apple event, and I thought that the blood oxygen monitor on the
Apple Watch is a huge deal because as blind people, we have very limited access
to medical devices that are accessible to monitor vital signs, and this is
especially essential for those with life-threatening chronic health conditions
like heart-disease, diabetes, asthma and even COVID-19.
Knowing your blood oxygen level is very useful when fighting covid because you
can be breathing and talking just fine, and not even know if your oxygen level
is very low until you suddenly crash. Many of the pulse oximeters are
inaccessible, or at least, I haven’t heard of talking pulse oximeters. So, if
you are alone and fighting covid or some other chronic condition, how are you
supposed to manage it if you don’t have the accessible technology without
having to break the bank and deal with the insurance companies?
The Apple Watch is a cost-effective way to reduce the shopping cart of
accessories we used to use every day just to accomplish basic tasks like
tracking time, writing, reading, monitoring health and others.

Also I like the fact that the apple bands can fit a wider variety of sizes
without having to adjust any clasps because it is a challenge when wearing
bracelets for me. I have very small wrists and often times bracelets fall off
my hand, especially the bangles. I cannot really find bangles that fit right at
least in adult sizes without some of them going up my arm. I think that the new
Apple Watch is the big highlight from the apple event.
Last year, I went to try on the apple watches, and some of the bands were to
loose on me and there was no way of adjusting them, especially for the leather
band with the magnetic clasp. So my options at the time were the sports band
that had the adjustable holes, having to adjust the watch to the second last or
even the last hole in order to fit properly.

Re: Writing in Spanish on the iPhone

2020-09-14 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
I use my phone to write in Spanish all the time since a lot of my family and
friends speak Spanish.
I use the dictation method to write in Spanish, and if you go into the settings
menu of your phone, you can add another keyboard. It’s under general and
keyboard. The options are Spanish, (Mexico), Spanish (Latin-America) and
Spanish (Spain).

 Christine,

I’m taking spanish on duolingo as well. What I did was install the spanish
keyboard on the iPhone. Now whenever spanish is required for entry, the
phone shows the spanish keyboard rather than the english one. If you are
entering on the onscreen keyboard, I believe you still have to use the
hold and slide method that others have described. However, if you are
using a bluetooth keyboard. There are dedicated keys for entering accents
 and the n with tilda.

The n tilde is the key to the right of the semicolon and the acute accent
is the next key to the right of that one.

Re: looking for accessible apps for emergency info, wildfire especially. I live in Portland Oregon

2020-09-10 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
Do you have government alerts turned on so that you can get alerts about
natural disasters or other severe weather events including wild fires?
On my phone, whenever there are weather alerts or government issued alerts, my
phone notifies me. That happened when COVID-19 hit our state very hard. I
received alerts issued by the state on my phone and it’s pretty accessible.
Also, there is a registry for people with disabilities to register their mobile
number in case of an emergency and it’ll give you alerts of disasters via
texts. Each city and county has a registration page where you can register as a
person with a disability to receive said emergency alerts via phone.
This is a very useful resource that explains how to register in your city
and/or county.
Available at: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/civic/article/662307

Sign-up page for public alerts:
https://www.publicalerts.org/signup
You’ll have to type in your address in order to search for your county so that
you can sign up for them.
If you have to evacuate due to an impending wildfire, make sure you prepare a
pack with your essential technology, food, documents and any basic supplies for
you and/or your pet if necessary. Make sure to have a relative’s contact on
speed dial or as an emergency contact. If you have a medical ID on your iPhone
set up, it’s best to set one of your contacts as an emergency contact just in
case.
These wildfires are all as a result of dry conditions, intense heat and the
wind caused by climate change.
This is indeed scary.

Since it still Works on Apple's iOS12, (I Think) the Problem/Issue
 lies
 with Apple's
 iOS: More Specifically; Apple's iOS13.
 &
 MyReasoning for this is: Recently,
Google PushedOut an Update to its YouTube MobileApp, which

the Volume/Sound when OpeningUp the YouTube MobileApp, & this
Issue/Problem was Experienced on Both iOS12 as well as iOS13, & this

Re: iOS 13.7 and exposure notifications

2020-09-02 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone, hope all of you are well. I updated to the latest software
version. The exposure notification tab is no longer hidden so it’s closer to
the emergency SOS tab on the Settings menu. I tried turning it on, but
apparently, exposure notification is not currently available in my area. So to
my understanding, I guess this means that my phone cannot share any COVID-19
exposure data? I think that it is helpful to have these notifications so that
this way we as blind people are more aware about the risks of exposure. We do
not always know if we are 6 feet apart from another person because it is harder
to tell even if you have a cane on hand. unless you are a very tall person
that requires a 6 foot long white cane.

Re: Mac OCR and Scanners

2020-08-27 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi Steve,
Hope you’re doing well.
I use a Mac and have this software from cerotech called Docuscan+. You can
download it on the cerotech website.
It works for a Mac and scanners.
I have a portable scanner I used to use when at school. It is a cannon scanner
which is also compatible with neat desk software according to the time I last
checked on the original box. From what I can remember it is compatible with the
Mac, and it works well for my needs because I can use any scanner with it.
For more info, go to http://www.serotek.com/docuscanplus

Keep in mind you have to have a login username and pin to access it. They have
free trials for new users if the student doesn’t have an account with cerotech.
I had this for years since I started college back in 2005 because it was part
of the technology used for education.
You can ask student support services at the school if they have an activated
license for docuscan+ which is about $299 for a copy. Also, blindness-oriented
organizations like the commission for the blind in the student’s local state or
county, the national Federation for the Blind, and others can help with
purchase of the software.
If you have any further questions, pleas feel free to reply.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Best,
Priscilla

What's app web vs. What's App Mobile App

2020-08-26 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi All,
Hope you are doing well.
I have a couple questions about What’s app web vs. the What’s app Mobile app.
How accessible is the what’s app web client? Has anyone ever used what’s app
web? If so, what has been your experience?
Is it less accessible than the mobile app?
I only use the mobile app, and it is very accessible for me. But I wanted to
use what’s app web to see if it’s just as accessible with VoiceOver as it is in
the mobile app. Does anyone use the mobile app as well? If so which do you all
prefer, what’s app web and/or what’s app mobile?
Please reach out via reply at garcesp...@gmail.com

Thank you and have a nice day.
Best,

Priscilla

Re: Orbit Writer and Pairing Devices

2020-08-05 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are well despite this whole covid19 situation. I just have a
question about the orbit writer. Is the orbit writer free for members of the
talking library?
If so, how do you all request one?
Did any of you get the device when participating in the national convention?
I am considering getting one since I want a more portable braille display to
always carry in my purse and keep up with reading braille.
I have the focus40 from freedom scientific even though it’s not the latest
generation, but it works well for me.
I mostly keep it at home since I use it with my Mac computer and it helps me
still read braille.
What has been your experience with the orbit writer? And is their a difference
between the orbit reader and orbit writer? If so, what is the difference?

I can be reached out at garcesp...@gmail.com

Best,

Priscilla

Re: What have I done to my iPhone?

2020-07-31 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope you’re doing well today.
To turn quicknav on or off, you actually press the left and right arrows
simultaneously if using the keyboard on the Mac or other bluetooth keyboards
that work with IOS.

Thanks,

Priscilla

Re: Zoom F6Hi folks, hi folks, Do any of you know of a blind users group for the zoom F6? There is an iPhone app that goes with it and I’d like to know more about it. I need help. Thanks

2020-07-26 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
For those interested in blind groups that address tech questions, there is a
group called VLANJ Tech talks. It’s totally online due to COVID19 and they meet
every fourth Wednesday of every month via zoom.
More info is available at:
https://www.vlanj.org/tech-talks-teach-people-with-visual-impairment-tools-for-online-engagement/
You can register for the series as well on the website.
This is a chance to share your experiences using technology like the iPhone,
Apple Watch, and other gadgets and to address any questions you may have.
Hope this helps.
Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Best,

Priscilla

Re: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-01 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
I have the same question about EarPods too. I would like to know what the
difference is between the regular and pro version.
My iphone doesn’t support the standard 3.5 headphones anymore, and only my iPad
does at the moment.
I intend to use them for zoom conferences, and when i go out, if i do anyway
because of this pandemic.

Thank yo, and hope all is well,

Priscilla

Re: Ergonomic Bluetooth keyboards

2020-06-17 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hello,
Hope you are doing well and staying healthy. ,
I just got a keyboard that is pretty ergonomic for me. It comes with an iPad
case that is made for the iPad 9.7 inch screen.
I got it on Amazon for about $50. The case of self rotates 360° so that you can
use it as a tablet.

iPad Keyboard Case 9.7 for iPad...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084ZS6NGG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They only have it in two colors, black and another one that I can’t recall.
It has a backlit keyboard which means that it can light up in the dark.
I have small hands so the keys are pretty big in nicely spaced out for me. so
really, it is like a little petite laptop I can just take with me anywhere
rather than lugging my MacBook Pro with other accessories on a longer commute
because it eventually takes a toll on my back after a while, especially when
you stand waiting for the bus or subway for a long time. I worry less and feel
safer on the longer commute when taking my iPad then I do when I take my
laptop especially if I decide to eventually go to the city and come home in
the evening for meetings and other activities in the future after this
pandemic. Any questions about the keyboard, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you.

Re: How accessible is an Apple watch

2020-06-16 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are doing well. I too have the same questions as I do not own
an apple watch. However, I am looking into purchasing it in the future. I was
going to purchase one, but unfortunately, the pandemic hit so I am unable to
try one on for myself. Also, I have an added challenge because I have small
wrists since I am very petite. Does the Apple Watch fit small wrists?
Also, did you buy the EarPods when you got the Apple Watch in order to hear the
VoiceOver on the Apple Watch while in crowded settings?
How are you able to hear VoiceOver through the Apple Watch if you don’t own
EarPods in noisy environments?
Can the Apple Watch serve as a suplemental mobility aid for navigation in
addition to other tools like a cane or service dog?
What were the primary reasons for purchasing the Apple Watch?
For those of you who are totally blind, what are the most important uses for
your Apple Watch?

Hope this helps.
Stay safe and take care,

Priscilla

Re: Pronunciation of a word

2020-06-12 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
It could be that the Alison boys pronounces her words differently. I am using
it right now and it sure does this because instead of pronouncing as June 18th
it says June teenth. It also pronounce the word honor as honore. The word her
is pronounced as er.
in this case I think the voice you select matters in terms of pronunciation
purposes.
I prefer to use the Alex voice because it is very clear.

Re: free mp3 recorder?

2020-06-12 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
The voice memos Apple app does a good job when it comes to recording. I use it
for recording lectures or notes and it is enough for my needs.

Re: Question about Using iPad

2020-06-12 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
If you have the 10 inch version of the iPad Pro, you can get the apple keyboard
that can attach to the magnetic portion of your iPad online at the Apple Store.
Smart Keyboard for iPad (7th generation) and iPad Air (3rd generation) - US
English

https://store.apple.com/xc/product/MX3L2LL/A

But if you want a cheaper keyboard case you can get this iPad keyboard case
that can make it into a convertible laptop/tablet.

The only thing is that the keyboard case does not detach Which is fine with me
for now.
iPad Keyboard Case 9.7 for iPad...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084ZS6NGG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Keep in mind that this case is for the 9.7 inch iPad which is smaller than the
one you have. You can find similar ones over at Amazon that is made for bigger
iPads.

Question about Using iPad

2020-06-12 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi everyone, hope this message finds you all well. I have a couple of questions
about iPads and usage by people with either low vision or who are totally
blind..
Do any of you own an iPad?
if so, what is your primary use for it?
Is the iPad a supplement for working on your laptops or desktops, or is it your
main computer?
what kind of keyboard or braille display do you use with your iPad if you use
one?
Do you use the iPad for virtual meetings now that everyone is moving on to
online classes and work due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

I have both an iPhone and a Mac computer.
I primarily bought an iPad so I can do my work while I am away from home since
my computer is now my main desktop. I preferred to travel with the iPad rather
than my computer for long commutes. overtime, heavy bags with laptops can take
a toll on my back. I use it as a notetaker since I do not currently own any
of the dedicated notetakers that feature braille displays like the braille
note. Instead, I have a focus 40 braille display that I use with both my iPhone
and iPad, but the only drawback is that it is not very portable because it does
not fit into my purses. However, I like the fact that the iPad is functioning
more and more like a laptop with each newsoftware update since I recently
bought myself a keyboard case from Amazon. It is similar to the keyboards
found on the Apple laptops because the commands needed to access various
functions like a dedicated home screen are accessible with just one key which
is the escape key. The keys are nice and comfortable to type on, and sSmall
keyboards are not really a problem for me since I have small hands. Because of
the four vents that represent the newer speakers, it is actually made for the
iPad Pro but it fits my current 5 Generation iPad just right and it
automatically wakes up the screen once I open it.
I was just wondering about this.
Stay safe and take care,
Priscilla

Hello,
I got the same message on the Apple Music tab. When I press the button, it does
show a livestream of music.
