When I went back to the More Info for the blocked number in the Recent call list, one of the choices is now Unblock this Caller. The blocked number is not in my contact list. You can change this from VoiceOver's braille settings screen - there is a second screen which shows available braille tables (for English, these are Unified, US and UK). * If you disable automatic braille translation, you wouldn't see what you're typing in braille on the braille display until you press spacebar key. * A famous implementation (more towards a time-out) issue where VoiceOver would insert contractions while typing in the middle of a word has been fixed. For example, if I type te, pause then type st sign (dots 3-4), before it would insert still; in iOS 7, it types st. * I can verify Scott's note that select all command doesn't work anymore. Thanks. Re: Reading Braille Books With Bookshare on iOS Devices
Anna, How do I make sure read2go is set to show me an entire section when reading with my BraillePen 12? Is there anything I need to change in the visual settings? Blessings, Stacey Robinson and Gemini mailto:stacey...@bellsouth.net On Aug 1, 2013, at 8:42 PM, Woody Anna Dresner wrote: Hi, I routinely read with my braille display using Read2Go. As long as I set it to read by section, I only have to change sections between chapters; within a chapter, the reading is continuous. You search for and download books within the app. It downloads the DAISY version, so you have access to any navigation built into the book, but the text is displayed in Grade 2, just as other text on the iPHone is. Occasionally a book is marked up oddly, so that each chapter title is considered its own section, so you have to move to the next section to read the title and do that again to start reading the chapter, but most of the time, it works fine. Use only your ears and your reflexes to shoot targets. The game is entirely auditory, so there are no pictures or icons. You will hear a target move from left to right. When it is centered, flick down on the screen with one finger to pull back your bow. Release your finger to fire your arrow. The game consists of 10 rounds with 7 shots each. Your goal is to meet or exceed the minimum score given to pass to the next round. Can you pass the tenth round and become the audio archery champion? Version 1.0 Free or Paid Free Compatibility This is a universal app, so works natively on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Device(s) App Was Tested On iPod Touch 5G Accessibility Comments You have to turn off vo to play this game as opposed to isay tournament's ability to play with voiceover. As this app has been written by our favorite pc game developer Liam Erven who brought us games like super liam, judgement day, super egg hunt etc, accessibility is garanteed. VoiceOver Performance VoiceOver reads no page elements. Button Labeling No buttons are clearly labeled. Usability The app is fully accessible without the use of VoiceOver Other Comments Audio archery brings the game of archery to your idevice. You have to shoot moving targets that go from left to right, by sliding down with one finger to pull back your bow, then when you think your target is in the center headphones strongly recommended, release to shoot your arrow. At the beginning of the level you hear something like, the target score is 5. This is the score you have to get by shotting either the bullseye for 5 points, inner ring for 2, outer for 1, and miss? That's right, nothing! You have 7 shots, and if you get the target score for that round you go up one, but if you can't pull it off because your reflexes failed you, what happens? That's right, game, over! You'll be told your final score then back to the main menu. There are 10 rounds, and if you can pull the final round off you'll be the archery master. Can you make it? Let's find out!Or rather, you will. Very good game, I must say. Made it up to round 5 first time I play d it. Very addictive! Also, at present, searching for audio archery in the appstore doesn't work, use the link I provide. Best to use this page on your idevice. Is it a worth while command, not in my opinion, I was just reporting the fact that it does work, but only in a very specific situation. Make sure your device is locked. 2. Turn on the braille display of your choice. 3. Wait a few extra seconds, say 10. 4. Press the home key on your device. 5. Wait again until you hear the display and the device connect. 6. Press spacebar plus dots 1,4 and your device will unlock. If you have a pin code to unlock your device, you can then enter it; otherwise it will simply unlock. Personally, I’ve done this with the Refreshabraille 18 and an iPod Touch 5th gen, the BrailleSense Plus and an iPhone 5 and with the Braille Edge and both devices, as well as the Focus 14 and the iPhone 5. However, if I am going to press the home key to wake up the device part way, I am going to just reach up and double tap to unlock it. But the original question was simply, can I unlock the device with my braille display? Just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should. Re: Alignment of the phone's camera using the StandScan
Where can I find more information on the stanscan pro? On Mar 26, 2013, at 12:10 PM, Sandratomkins wrote: Hi Eileen, 1. If your case is easy to remove, then do that, it can't but help. 2. Are you right handed? I am left, but will offer my advice based upon the norm, I.E. right handedness. place the phone on the top of the box, with the open side of the box facing you. Obviously, you want the top right corner of the phone to cover the round aperture for the camera. I find, when my phone is in the right place, there is a gap between the front edge of the top of the box and the phone's left hand side, which measures about half an inch (a large centimetre) and this gap should be the same for the length of the phone to ensure that it is straight. 3. i find that when my phone, especially not in the case, is in position, I can feel the rounded edges of the hole, very slightly, at the top edge of the phone and to the right. 4. I would suggest using Prizmo to start because you can use the speech command to take the shot and, in this way, you won't dislodge the phone from its position by tapping. Also, prizmo is more forgiving of slightly skewed text, so, while you are finding your feet, you should get some reasonable results. 5. Make sure you are using 12 volts, either with the 12 volt battery backup or with the mains adaptor. I find that the lights give off some heat, after a minute of the 12 volts, so, if you can't tell otherwise, this should let you know that the lights are working. Placing the document inside: 1. I find it is more important to have the text square rather than centralised as the camera has a complete view of the whole of the base of the box, so, align your paper with the back and side of the box and make sure it is flat. So, to sum up: your phone should be laying with its long, left side parallel with the front of the box but about half an inch away. And you should just be able to detect the edge of the round hole at the top of the phone on the right and to the side. It will help to have guiding tactiles, but I have not been using them, so they are not essential, once you get a feel for the right position. Don't worry, i promise you, once you have got used to it, it will work for you!!! As always, start with something easy to scan so you can get some successes to boost your confidence and don't worry if you need to keep coming back for tips, other people may have similar issues at first, so your questions will be helpful for others as well. Ah! although both Prizmo and Text Grabber can work with text turned through 90 degrees, it is always better to have the text up the right way, so the top should be to the right of the box, assuming you are right-handed. HTH and do please let me know how it goes. Sandy. Jonathan, Have you figured out how to delete a note in accessnote? I can't figure this out. There seems to be no braille command for this and tapping and holding on the note doesn't delete it. Re: Introducing BrailleTouch - an iPhone app for typing in braille on your touchscreen
Kaleb, Will BrailleTouch support contracted Braille? On Dec 24, 2012, at 3:12 PM, BrailleTouch wrote: Greetings and Happy Holidays! My name is Caleb, and I'm one of the developers of a new iPhone app called BrailleTouch. BrailleTouch allows you to type using braille on your touchscreen, and is based on the standard six key braille keyboard. We are excited to announce that BrailleTouch will be on the App Store by the end of January! We hope that you will like BrailleTouch and find it useful. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have, and I've included some more information about the app below. With BrailleTouch, you can send text messages, emails, and tweets from the touchscreen braille keyboard. You can also copy text you type in braille to the clipboard and paste it into other apps on your iPhone. There is a free version of BrailleTouch, so you can try it before you buy it. The free version lets you type in braille and hear the text you entered. Many braille instructors have told us that they would like to use BrailleTouch as a teaching tool, which the free version will support. Additional features are available as In App Purchases. The Messaging Upgrade allows you to send text messages, emails, and tweets from the touchscreen braille keyboard. The Clipboard Upgrade allows you to copy text from the touchscreen braille keyboard and paste it into other apps on your iPhone. BrailleTouch is based on research conducted at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, where I am a graduate student. My colleagues and I tested the software with eleven volunteers who are blind. We found that people who knew the standard Perkins braille keyboard were able to master BrailleTouch within an hour of practice and type at an average of 23 words per minute using Grade 1 braille. We received such positive feedback that we were inspired to take this research out of the laboratory and release BrailleTouch to the public. We hope this software will provide a helpful alternative to the VoiceOver split tap keyboard, and that it will help improve the mobile computing experience for people in the blind community who use an iPhone. BrailleTouch is fully compatible with VoiceOver. It works on the iPhone 3GS through the iPhone 5, iPod touch models since the 3rd generation, and requires iOS 5.0 or a later operating system. BrailleTouch is only for the iPhone and iPod touch, and is not supported on the iPad. The first release is based on North American English Grade 1 Uncontracted Braille. You can choose to hear speech feedback for each character you type, each word you type, or both. More information about BrailleTouch is available on our website: http://brailletouchapp.com/ The website includes a User Guide and Frequently Asked Questions. You can also sign up for our email list, and we will notify you when we have an exact release date in January for the app. We are also on Twitter: https://twitter.com/brailletouch With the free version of BrailleTouch, you can try out the touchscreen braille keyboard and hear the text that you typed read back to you. The Messaging Upgrade allows you to send text messages, emails, and tweets, and costs US$9.99. The Clipboard Upgrade allows you to copy text from the braille keyboard to paste into other apps, and costs US$9.99. You must have the Messaging Upgrade first before you can get the Clipboard Upgrade. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. We are very excited about the upcoming release of BrailleTouch on the App Store. I hope that you will like BrailleTouch and find it useful. Raul, Haven't you figured out that we women never listen. YOu'll be buying iPads before you know it. On Dec 11, 2012, at 7:51 PM, Raul A. Gallegos wrote: All sarcasm aside, I do believe that both iPad and iPhone have their place and will be useful to some and not as much to others. I think it highly depends on the needs of the user. It's already been discussed much on the list the differences between iPad and iPhone and why one chooses one over the other. Personally I'm fine without the iPad and perfectly happy with the iPhone, but someone like my wife and daughter would really enjoy the iPad for the kinds of things you can do on it VS the iPhone. For example, my daughter is sighted and an avid reader. Reading books on her iPhone is not as fun as it is on the iPad because of the text size and because of more scrolling which is done from the iPhone, but the iPad is perfect for her socialization, email, and book reading needs. So, I imagine that eventually the girls in my life will convince me to get one or both of them an iPad. Until then, scroll scroll scroll from the iPhone. I keep telling them to just use Nook and Voice Over and let it do all the work. Or better yet, Audible books. But no one listens to me. smile. -- Raul A. Otherwise, without 3G access, I can't access Dropbox outside of wireless range. Only one of my text editors will give me some access to the Dropbox file structure, but overall this doesn't work as the commuter tool I was hoping for. Where am I going wrong? Are there apps that let you read Dropbox files outside of wireless range, or is 3G really needed to make this a viable commuter device? I'm thinking I'd be better off upgrading to the iPhone 5 for the faster processor and 4G connections, but before selling off this unit, I want to make sure I'm giving it a fair shake. Right now it just feels like one big ass screen that feels more awkward than useful. Even the greater web page range is not enough to make me admire the extra screen real estate. The other thing would be that you still have your radio button in the Mac app store on updates so that the app isn't showing up when you type the name in the search field and press return. If neither of these is the case, I don't know what other suggestion to give; I just tried it again and the search for type2phone brings up both type2phone and iKeyboard. iCloud
Is there any way to use iCloud running SnowLeperd On Nov 9, 2012, at 10:27 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: Hi Scott, I wouldn't quite go that far, as I stated in my previous message, you can learn to do quite a bit on iCloud.com with the Jaws cursor and knowing how to fully utilize Jaws on websites, but it does take a bit of practice and it helps to have some sighted help explaining the first time around what's going on. For example, when I first go to iCloud.com and go to the Sign In button nothing happens if I press enter or space bar. However, if I route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor and then do a single left click I get the edit fields for my Apple Id and password. Enter your Apple Id, then your password and press enter and it will sign you in. I just signed in and, for example, went to Reminders. I was able to once again use the Jaws cursor to click on it and I can see my Reminders. I could click on a Reminder, then was able to click the Details button with the Jaws cursor and it then gave me the options to Delete or click Done since that particular reminder happened yesterday, but I hadn't marked it as Done. I clicked Delete with the Jaws cursor and the reminder was gone from my iPhone as well as iCloud. Now, after that I was not able to get out of the Reminders area on iCloud so I had to close it and log back in. Then I went to Find my iPhone and I was once again able to use the Jaws cursor, click on Devices, I then got a My Devices and after clicking on that I saw Sieghard's iPhone and it told me it had been located 4 minutes ago which is probably when I signed in to iCloud. Once I got to that I had buttons I could click for Play Sound, Erase iPhone which obviously I did not try and a few others I can't recall. I clicked the Play Sound button and my iPhone which was next to me started dinging away. I don't use Mail or Contacts, but it definitely is possible to use iCloud to some extend. Of course I also wish Apple would make the iCloud.com website fully accessible, but I definitely get less from a silent movie without audio description. question about music on iPhone
Hi all, If I no longer wish to have music on my iPhone, and I delete it from the phone, how do I keep my mac from putting it back when I sync things like contacts? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Apple earpods
Thanks very much. I didn't know you could do that with the older earbuds. On Nov 2, 2012, at 9:56 AM, Michael Feir wrote: Hi Stacy. For me, it's the same as with the old earbuds. Click the centre button once to pause or twice quickly to skip to the next song. I think holding it down longer lets you go backwards or does something else. When using them with the iPhone 4-s can you skip from one song to the other using the controls on the earpods? If so, how do you do this? Re: Apple earpods
Wow, I didn't realize that the earpods and earbuds would do that much. Cool. On Nov 2, 2012, at 10:58 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: Hi Stacey, Here is what you can do with both the old earbuds and the new earpods: A single press of the centre button (slightly resessed): Play/Pause music or whatever you are currently playing (Audible, Downcast etc.) If your phone rings this will answer/hang up the phone call, if a second call comes in while you are on the phone this will switch to the second call and back to the first if you press it again. If you are in the camera app it will take a picture or start/stop video recording. Press the top or bottom: Volume up or down Assuming you are in music, pressing the middle button twice quickly will skip to the next song. Press it 3 times quickly and it will go back to the beginning of the currently playing song or, if you paused playback, it will go back to the previous song. In Audible, for example, a quick double press will advance to the next Chapter, a quick triple press will go back a chapter. In Downcast you can go into the app settings and configure what you want the remote to do, e.g. you can set it up to skip 30 seconds or rewind 30 seconds. Once again, in music or most other audio playback apps, a double press and hold will fast forward within the song/chapter and a triple press and hold will fast rewind.
