Hi All,

Wanted to check with others before reporting this. I use the Open Com Blue
Tooth headset with my iPhone 14 for reading books. With the latest update, I
have noticed when pressing the button to stop play back, this no longer works.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have cleared the app switcher and restarted
my iPhone.

FaceBook mobile web site

2023-09-30 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

For years I have used the m.facebook.com web site to access Face Book.
Beginning a month or two ago the format changed so it is really hard to use.
What is the easiest way to use FB?

Thanks.

Altitude gain and loss

2023-08-30 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

Is there an app that will track how much altitude you gain and lose as you
walk? I walk up and down some pretty good sized hills and am curious about
this.

Thanks.

RE: Headphones for use when navigating

2023-04-04 Thread rhs via VIPhone
How clear is the speech using bone conduction? How clear are sounds such as
beeps or tones that provide audio feedback from an app? Can you crank the
volume up enough to hear over traffic sounds?

You have convinced me concerning the downside of transparent mode on headphones.

Thanks.

For walking around, I prefer the bone conduction headphones like the OpenMove
from Shokz or the Bose Frames. There's nothing in your ears at all. I like to
use transparency mode when I'm around the house and still need to hear what's
going on around me and where I want some better sound quality, such as watching
a movie while I'm doing laundry or dishes or on my stationary bike. I still
need to be able to hear my wife, dog, cat, ... I find the transparency mode,
even though I can still hear what's going on around me, feels like my ears are
stuffed up or I have water in my ears. It's like I can hear my footfalls.

Hi,

I have never used bone conduction headphones or ones like the Airpods that have

Getting started with Blind Square

2023-03-22 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

I just downloaded Blind Square and am a little overwhelmed by all the options.
I have a couple of questions that hopefully will get me started.

When I decided to get Blind Square I thought it would work in a similar way to
Apple Maps or Good Maps Outdoors. After reading some of the manual, it seems
that Blind Square works in conjunction with Apple Maps and not in place of it.
So, what do I need to do to use them together?

Second, I bought Blind Square because I want to explore routes and destinations
starting from a location different than my actual location. My wife and I are
buying a house in a different town. I’d like to figure out what businesses are
in the area of our new house. I’d like to figure out the location of
particular types of businesses such as drug stores or florists (our anniversary
is coming soon) to know which I can reach by walking or by public
transportation.

Any pointers to get me started would be much appreciated.

Ralph

Exploring routes in a different town

2023-02-27 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

My wife and I are moving to a different state. We have started monitoring
houses on the market that we might be interested in buying. Because I am not
familiar with the new town, I would like to find a way to enter a house address
and then explore the area for stores, etc..

I downloaded Good Maps Outdoors. From what I can tell, there is no way to do
this kind of exploring because it uses my current location as the beginning
point in the route.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an app that might work or for a way to use
Good Maps to do it?

Thanks.

Calory tracker

2023-02-21 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

I’m looking for a recommendation for an accessible calory counting app. It
would be nice if I could enter recipes and have it calculate calories for a
serving. It would also be nice if I could enter miles walked.

I don’t mind paying for this. I’d like an app with good privacy and security.

Thanks.

Twitter's access via Twitterrific is broken at my end too. It doesn't ask for
Log-in, rather it says that for now, the access is broken, hoping that it's
temporary.

Hi,

A few days ago my iPhone XR running IOS 16.1 decided on its own to switched the
VO voice to Samantha. I cannot get it to change to any other voice. When I go
into the VO settings it says that Siri #1 is the voice that is running. That
is the voice I want to use.

When I select another voice, Samantha is still the voice I hear. I have
restarted my iPhone with the same results.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Cannot change voice

2022-12-23 Thread rhs via VIPhone

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You are probably using the enhanced Samantha. Try changing it to the regular

Voice problems

2022-11-18 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

Yesterday I updated my iPhone XR to the latest IOS. Voice Over now sounds like
it has been smoking for 50 years or something. Is there a way to clear this
up? I have tried a couple different voices and it doesn't help. What's
strange is that Siri's voice still sounds fine, even though it's the same voice
Voice over is using.

Thanks.

Phone volume

I have an iPhone XR running IOS 15.2.

Where do I go to adjust the phone volume? I mean the volume of the

Thanks.

Help with Air Dropping contacts

2021-08-18 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

My wife tried using air drop to give me a couple contacts I needed. A message
popped up on my phone telling someone was trying to do that. I gave permission
but nothing happened.

My settings are set to accept contacts only.

Any ideas about what the problem might be?

Also, using VO, how can I get into my airdrop settings?

Thanks for the help.

Trouble answering phone calls

Hi,

I have the latest IOS on my iPhone XR. When I receive a phone call the name
pops up like you’d expect and I can double tap to answer. However, if I touch
the screen in some way that moves the focus the caller and the answer button
disappear. The phone still rings but I can’t figure out how to answer it.

Any directions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

They are two different thinsers.

Siri is who you say hey siri, what is the weather today

So if it’s voiceover you’re spin ers twice quickly on the screen to see if vo

Dependin t hand side in and ask the question after it beeps at you.

Hope this helps.

Try asking Siri something with a long answer like what is the 10 day forecast,
and then start tapping the up volume button.

Siri normally remembers whatever volume it was left at.

I also turn off the change with buttons option in sounds so I don’t
accidentally silence VoiceOver or Siri.

Any ideas?

Try asking Siri something with a long answer like what is the 10 day forecast,
and then start tapping the up volume button.

Siri normally remembers whatever volume it was left at.

I also turn off the change with buttons option in sounds so I don’t
accidentally silence VoiceOver or Siri.

Hi,

Siri has stopped talking. For example, when I ask Siri to spell a word I get
silence. I can use finger gestures to spell out the word, but until a couple
days ago Siri would automatically sell it out. Siri is just as silent when I
ask something else.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Voice Over and Bluetooth speakers

2020-06-04 Thread rhs via VIPhone
I found an interesting quirk with voice over and Bluetooth speakers that lets
me choose whether voice over speak through the speaker on the phone or if it
goes through the Bluetooth speaker.

. In recent versions of IOS, voice over continues to use the iPhone speaker
when a Bluetooth speaker is connected. A couple days ago I turned voice over
off and then back on while my phone was connected to a Bluetooth speaker. When
voice over came back on voice over had changed and was going through the
speaker instead of the phone. Voice over continued to go through the speaker
the next day when I reconnected my phone with the same speaker. I then turned
off the speaker and shut off voice over and then restarted it. When I turned
the speaker back on and my phone connected to it voice over remained with the
phone rather than going through the speaker.

Syincing iPhone with iTunes

2020-02-24 Thread rhs via VIPhone
Hi,

I cannot get iTunes to recognize my iPhone. When I hook the phone up to my
computer I type in my phone password to confirm that it should trust the
computer. However, I cannot find my phone in iTunes. I used to be able to.
Any ideas?

I am on Windows 10 and the latest iTunes and IOS.

Thanks.
