It is indeed ilegal to unlock your phone once again. I posted an article a
few weeks ago explaining this, among other things. The FCC is currently trying
to see if it has the authority to overrule the change.

Re: ATT is no good

2013-03-09 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hello,

I will try to explain concising what happened to me attempting to unlock my
phone traveling abroad last October. After several attempts with a live
representative and submitting an application on line, it was recommended to
contact the Office of the President-mobile for ATT. I needed to take a few
deep breaths and calmly explain all of my contacts in chronological order. I
kindly requested them to unlock my phone before traveling. I did receive a
positive outcome, but the email was received 2 days late and I was already on
vacation. So the bottom line is, it doesn't hurt in trying this route. you have
nothing to lose, but a little time.I will include a phone number. It's
866-751-5784. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you obtain a positive
outcome like I did. Oh by the way, There was a petition that reached the
President's desk, with President Obama agreeing that this law should be over
ruled. Let's see what happens in the near future.

Good luck.

Best,
Eileen

Re: ATT is no good

2013-03-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
When did you hear this? This was definitely true a few years ago, which
is why the judgment made it legal for anyone to unlock a cell phone. One
of the reasons that was sighted when this judgment wasn't renewed is
that carriers now typically will unlock a cell phone at the end of the
contract period and even earlier if you're a customer in good standing.
This was definitely the case with ATT when I looked into it two years ago.

BTW, the FCC and the White House in the US have both come out in favor
of making it legal for anyone to unlock their cell phones.

Hi Pablo,

ATT will unlock an iPhone that is out of contract. Here is a page
that lists the eligibility requirements and other information:

http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414532

If your phone is eligible, then fill out their form at this link to
request the unlock:

http://www.att.com/deviceunlock

Once they have approved the unlock, you will need to back up your
phone to iTunes and restore it to complete the unlock.

Hope this helps,
Jerry

ATT is no good

2013-03-05 Thread Holly
BlankIt is indeed ilegal to unlock your phone once again. I posted an article a
few weeks ago explaining this, among other things. The FCC is currently trying
to see if it has the authority to overrule the change.

It's only illegal to unlock your cell phone if it's unauthorized. A
carrier can legally unlock your cell phone for you.

Re: ATT is no good

2013-03-04 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello. My experience with ATT is completely the opposite. I suggested that you
call them back and get someone else. Just like any large company, there will
always be some service representatives who are not well-trained or are too lazy
to do their work. This does not mean the entire company at-large is to blame. I
could easily give you equal stories regarding Verizon and Sprint, but again it
does not mean they are bad companies in general. Just so you know, once your
phone is off contract, ATT can unlock your phone. Unless there has been a new
law to change it, then they can do it. Also, there is no need to unlock your
phone unless you're planning to sell it or want to switch carriers to someone
else.
