Thanks, since writing the first message I have also tried connecting to my iPad 
Mini and found that the button works perfectly there. I am also running 6.14 on 
my iPhone 5. I have re-paired with the iPhone and still found the same problem 
as before. Not sure what else to try short of a restore.

Hi Darth,

The problem is not unique to the AfterShokz Bluez. Many bluetooth headsets only 
issue a play command when the play/pause button is pressed. For whatever 
reason, the assumption is made that the app that is currently playing will be 
smart enough to know that if it sees a play command while playing it should 
pause. Unfortunately, all apps are not this smart.

When I first got the Bluez, the fabulous podcast client Downcast had this 
problem. The developer made Downcast smarter so that if it is playing and gets 
a play command it pauses. All of the other apps that I use are smart enough to 
operate properly. So, if you try Downcast or the iPhone music app, you should 
find that the play/pause button works as expected. You must be trying an app 
that isn't smart about this button.

Interestingly, the Audible app works properly when played at normal speed but 
if you speed up the reading of the book, the play/pause command fails with the 
Bluez or any bluetooth headset that I have tried. This suggests that there are 
other issues going on as well.

Hi Robert,

This is an interesting observation and it made me curious. I have an older
Plantronics 590 stereo headset and 2 nnewer devices both from a niche
company called Outdoor Technology which produces a stereo Bluetooth headset
called DJ Slim and a ruggedized shock and water-resistant Bluetooth speaker
called the Turtleshell.

I tested all 3 devices with the native music app, Downcast, Audible and the
TII (Today in iOS) app which is a dedicated app for listening to the Today
in iOS Podcast and content.

I said earlier that my Plantronics 590 would pause playback but not resume
it. I think this is opposite of what Garth experienced and what you
confirmed.
I verified this with the music app, the Audible app and Downcast.
Interestingly enough the 590 works fine with the TII app, it both plays and
pauses without any issues.

Both work fine with all apps. I can start playback, pause it and start
again. It is reliable and works every time.
I can confirm as well that if I set the playback speed in the Audible app to
anything else but 1x (I tried all of them) both the DJ Slims and Turtleshell
play/pause functions also work flawlessly.

I would have not guessed that Bluetooth performance could be app specific,
but apparently it can be to some degree.

Hi All

I just got myself a set of the After Shockz Bluez. When I press the Play button 
on the right hand side of the headset, it works normally to start playback, 
however when pressing it again it does not stop or pause playback. I have tried 
forgetting the device in settings on my phone than re-pairing with exactly the 
same behaviour. I have not yet tried pairing to any other iOS devices to see if 
the issue is also apparent  . This is with an iPhone 5.  

Any suggestions?

No suggestions since I don't  own a pair and after hearing about the
Kickstarter project called Soundband I am not planning to buy the
Aftershokz. However, I thought I mention that I have an older pair of
Plantronics I think Voyager 590E stero Bluetooth headphones and they do the
same thing.
