I think David's note got me going in a track that ended up getting this keyboard working, but honestly, I have no bloody idea what actually did the trick. First, I tried turning off quick nav even though VoiceOver said it was off. That turned it back on. So, no go. I turned VoiceOver off and just typed and typing worked. I turned VoiceOver back on and momentarily had it speaking double letters, though it only entered one of each letter. That didn't last long and then it wasn 't working again. I forgot the device and re-paired it, still no luck. After using some words that I can't use here, I went back to experimenting with the visible onscreen keyboard. Just on a whim because of what Lisa had said, I hid the onscreen keyboard, nothing worked. I then made the onscreen keyboard visible, and I could type again. Again, if the onscreen keyboard was hidden I couldn't type, but when I made the onscreen keyboard visible it started typing just fine. Now, it types just fine whether the onscreen keyboard is hidden or not. How totally crazy is this. But, the bottom line is, for this moment, it is working.
This is why I am on this list. I get ideas to try things out and may not always lead directly to a result, but might get me trying things in a different way that end up working. Not to mention much of simply excellent information that comes through on this list. Thanks, Richard -- The following information is important for all members of the VIPhone list.
