Hi All!
Amanda Tolson here from En-Vision America the makers of ScripTalk talking
prescription reader. Great news, we are currently beta testing our new IOS
ScripTalk App. It does still require using a participating pharmacy that
provides the RFID labels, but the number of participating pharmacies is
growing every day! You do need an IPhone 7 or higher to use the app because
of limitations Apple has set for developers of Apps that use RFID. Call us
and we can let you know what pharmacies participate. 800-890-1180. Oh, and
if you’re interested in beta testing and have an IPhone 7 or higher let me
know.

Take Care,
Amanda Tolson

RE: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-17 Thread Richard Turner
I just tried the suggestion of using my Fopydo Scanning Stand with Seeing AI's
short Text on a prescription bottle.
Granted it only sees a portion of the label at a time, but if you slowly rotate
the bottle, it will read everything. Name, RX number, dosage instructions, and
whether there is a refill.
I also found the color of the tablet, which I never new was printed on the
label.

I think the point is not only to determine what the medication is. It sounds
like the RFID chips used also contain maybe information about the medication,
how often to use it etc.

Seeing AI appears to try to recognize medication, but it will only get up to
the really fast beeps and no farther no matter what I do. So I'm not sure if
it's Seeing AI or my lack of skill with a camera.

Re: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-15 Thread Andrew J. LaPointe
Hi Amanda, did I see somewhere that Vision-America will come out with an
App so that it will give information on a prescription from CVS? I could use
such an App but, I don’t want to have my Eye drops come in the mail. Andy and
Shubert
p.s. The reason I don’t want mail order is simply that my mail is terrible.
Most things go to another address.

Subject: Re: An App to read medication bottles?

Some general information about bar-codes on medications and such

95% of the time when there is a bar-code present on a prescription label, the
bar-code is only for internal use. It will be the RX number, account number or
something along those lines. It will not be a manufacture bar-code that can be
associated with the medication it self.

Product bar-codes are associated with the product it self allowing companies to
create databases with this information. With Seeing IA their database only
contains product names, while En-Vision America's i.d. mate bar code scanner
database contains the name and information about the product. In an attempt to
not turn this into a sales pitch you can visit our website for more
information.

There are 2 common styles of bar-codes. 1st is a QR Code or also called 2D
bar-code. This style actually contains data within the code, like a web
address, or actual information. 2nd is a Universal Product Code or UPC. This
style contains a number only and for it to be useful you need to assign
information to that number in a database.

UPC is what is found on all products, the key to it being useful to a consumer
is for a database to be available to them.

Hope I didn't bore you!
Amanda

2018-03-15 Thread Kelly Pierce
The CVS mail order pharmacy will not dispense controlled substances.
This includes sleeping medicines. Most blind people I know have a
sleeping problem and the medications that enable a blind person to
have a normal night’s sleep cannot have an accessible label from the
CVS mail order pharmacy.

Re: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-15 Thread Richard Turner

I know about ScriptTalk being free, I was referencing Amanda's comment about
the ID Mate bar code device.
I find Seeing AI works great for me.
If my pharmacy ever gets on board with ScriptTalk, I will go that route.
I think I'll stop contributing to this thread, since I have nothing more to
offer.

There are 2 common styles of bar-codes. 1st is a QR Code or also called 2D

Richard, the script talk machine for reading prescriptions is on free loan at
least for those of us in the US. As for the ID Mate product, it does the job we
wish it to do easily and without much effort so we paid the price. We gave up
complaining about the price of blindness technology years ago, smile. If it
says “blindness” it’s going to be expensive and we know it. EnVision does have
a payment plan which will break the $1300 into 12 payments.

Canadian pharmacies that participate are Walmart, Shoppers, Loblaw banners,

Give us a call 800-890-1180 and a customer service rep can help get you set

I'm wondering if you take the label off the bottle, whether it be a soup

Re: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-14 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Tony,

I agree there are times when there are problems that exist. I switch to them
when the local pharmacy decided it was A-OK to lose controlled substances and
not report it to anybody. So we have worked with CVS/caremark for about a year
and a half now and things of been going much better. And always know that if
you have a problem with them you can report it to Medicare through your
insurance company or directly to Medicare. They really should be on top of
chemo drugs and other drugs that are life-saving.

RE: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-14 Thread Tony
I had nothing but problems with CareMark when my wife got her chemo from them a
couple of years ago. CVS was OK but when they combined the bottom fell out of
services.

They didn’t have anyone to talk to evenings or weekends and it took days to get
a return call.

The reading device is only available thru the company and you can sign up
over the phone in Conn.

Walgreens also has this.. I use digit eyes and does a great job. You can
record information you need...of course you all probably already know this.

I believe that CVS Caremark is available everywhere. It depends on whether your
health insurance covers it. They are nationwide distributor of medications.

So, I wrote to Seeing AI to ask if they could add a medication database to

universal based on the medication.

I'll let folks know what response I get.

Seeing AI appears to try to recognize medication, but it will only get
up to the really fast beeps and no farther no matter what I do. So I'm
not sure if it's Seeing AI or my lack of skill with a camera.

Re: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-14 Thread Richard Turner
That is good to know, but that pharmacy isn't available everywhere.
I just tried the three medication bar code apps in the app store, but none of
them seemed to work, even for my sighted wife.
So, I wrote to Seeing AI to ask if they could add a medication database to
their product channel. I do not know if bar codes are manufacturer specific or
universal based on the medication.
I'll let folks know what response I get.

I unfortunately haven't had much luck getting Seeing AI to read medication
bottles, although it can usually get some of the text on the outside.

RE: An App to read medication bottles?

2018-03-14 Thread Tony
Many pharmacies are using Script Talk labels. They have a RFID chip and use a
small reader. It will tell you every thing that is on the label. There is no
charge for the labels or the reader.

There are one or two other talking label system in use by some pharmacies but
Script Talk seems to be the most widely used.

If interested I can give you a contact for the manufacturer and some pharmacies.

Tony
