I agree. I would very much like to have my bard books be able to transfer from
my iPhone 8 to my iPhone 13 pro max. The only reason why I'm keeping my iPhone
8 is because of all the bard books on it.
Once I can get my bard books moved to my newer phone, I'll see if I can sell my
iPhone 8. However, who knows how long it will be before we can get our bard
books on different devices. I'm glad we are getting bard mobile 2.0. This
seems like a step in the wright direction.

Version 2.0 includes a number of new features, including in-app search capabilities: -Search inputs are more intuitive. Author search supports First Name, Last Name format; Last Name, First Name; and Last Name only. Quotation marks are no longer required. For example, input “Mary Clark” (without quotations) to find all the Mary Higgins Clark titles. -Keyword search supports searching all indexed metadata and can help users looking for multiple criteria. For example, to find a Terri Pratchett book narrated by Nick DePinto, a user can simply input “dePinto Terri“ (without quotations). -After a user inputs a search, they can amend the search type, the inputted term itself, or the format (audio or braille), and sort results alphabetically by author, title, or latest publication date. -In-app search now includes NLS Music collection holdings, allowing users to access the variety of musical appreciation and biography books, scores, and music instructional titles.  -Users can switch between audio and braille searches. For example, input “learn guitar” (without quotation marks) with the search defaults to find audio instructional titles, then select the braille format and the search button again to find braille titles. Version 2.0 also includes enhancements to searching and sorting Bookshelf and Get Books listings. Bug fixes include: -Rewind controls skipping further than intended -Sideloading books  -Downloading and reading non-ASCII foreign language book titlesI found this in the app store a little while ago.It works great! Richard“What we think or what we know or what we believe is in the end of little consequence. More or less the same sentiments here. I will add that they do offer titles
that are pretty obscure and that you’re not likely to find in recorded format
anywhere else. The app itself had gotten better, but it’s in general just meh…
I too would not pay for the service now, but being grandfathered in, I do still
use it from time to time.

At the risk of going too deep into thread creep, I would only use Learning Ally
as a very last resort because their readers are poor to terrible for the most
part. IN college, 50 years ago, I had to use them exclusively for audio books
because in the day, they were the only source for text books. I was reading a
book for my Freshman Fiction class, Sons and Lovers by D. H. Lawrence. The
book started out with a fabulous British reader! I swear, in mid paragraph,
but it was probably at a page break, a woman with a very, very strong southern
US accent took over. I had to jump up and stop the player, which BTW was a
real-to-real player and calm my outrage. I won’t repeat what I likely said …

There were at least 6 other readers before finishing the book.

But, without them, I would not have been able to get through college, so I am
grateful. I am also grateful they Grandfathered those of us into the Learning
Ally from Recordings for the Blind because I absolutely wouldn’t pay for the
service even if that was the only source for a book. I’d scan the book myself
first.

OK, back to focusing on BARD, 

I only use Learning Ally when I can't find something somewhere else. There app
is terrible. It doesn’t use the magic tap to start and stop playback, you can't
increase the speed without going into several screen levels deep, and the thing
that's the search says magnifying glass. It's definitely usable and accessible,
but not efficient or nice.

I particularly like the idea of being able to download directly from the search
results. Sometimes, I want to download a book immediately, not put it on the
wish list and then download it.

The improved search results will also be welcome.

Oh, if you have a huge volume of books on your old phone, I can see why
you would like to do an easy transfer. I am not tech savvy so I don't know why
BARD books can't be backupped then transferred to a new phone using I Tunes.
Does it have to do with their formatting? It would take a very long time to
transfer an entire library, wouldn't it?
libray down
As for me, since BARD has a record of all the books "previously downloaded" I
don't fret about it. I don't need to have them all sitting on any given phone.
Luckily BARD downloads don't take that long.

direction.

Announcing BARD Mobile for iOS 2.0

We're excited to tell you that NLS has released version 2.0 of BARD Mobile for
iOS. In this version, the BARD Website option is replaced by a new and powerful
search engine that has the following abilities:

" Search by keyword, title, author, or annotation.

" Search for either braille or audio content.

" Use the Keyword search to search for narrators.

" Search for items in the Music collection, including music
appreciation and instructional materials as well as music scores.

" Access all the options available from books in your wish list,
Recently Added Books, etc., such as downloading directly from the search
results page and viewing all the books by the same author or in the same series.

" Enter an author's or narrator's name in any format and without
quotation marks and get reliable results.

" Enter words from a title without quotation marks and get reliable
results.

" Enter multiple types of information in a Keyword search, such as
part of a title and an author's last name or a title and narrator's name, and
get reliable results.

" Change the type of search after you conduct the original search.

" Sort search results by title, author, or latest (the publication
date).

To conduct a search, choose the Search option at the top of the Get Books
screen, just above Wish List. Keyword is the default search type, and Audio is
the default format. Change these settings if you like, type or dictate search
terms in the search field, and choose Go or Search. To change the format or

RE: BARD 2.0 is coming soon!

2022-09-16 Thread Richard Turner

It's definitely usable and accessible,
but not efficient or nice.

search results, choose Title, Author, or Latest. To access options such as
Download and viewing other books by the same author with VoiceOver, touch the
title of interest, flick up or down to the desired choice, and double-tap. If
you don't use VoiceOver, select the More info button to the right of the title,
and then choose either Download, Add to Wish List, or More Actions.

Additionally, Version 2.0 fixes problems with:

" Rewind controls skipping further than intended.

" Side loading books.

" Downloading and reading non-ASCII foreign language book titles.

The update should be available by Friday, September 23rd. We hope you enjoy it.

RE: BARD 2.0 is coming soon!

I particularly like the idea of being able to download directly from the search
results. Sometimes, I want to download a book immediately, not put it on the
wish list and then download it.

The improved search results will also be welcome.
