RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
Thanks, Lynn. Since I have two, I thought that must be standard. One, I bought new at Wal-Mart for $20.00, but the other, my husband found at the Salvation Army for 99 ¢, and they seem to be equivalent. Neither makes my phone or the charger om the Wal-Mart one hot. The Salvation Army one is connected to a port on my computer tower. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Lynn White Sent: Wednesday, September 16, 2020 2:44 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced Yes, wireless chargers are definitely slower. RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
I’ve had doctor’s and dentist’s use both wrist bands and finger cups to measure my blood pressure. Blood travels through more then just your arm, so I assume it’s possible to use other locations on your body to measure blood pressure. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Simon A Fogarty Sent: Wednesday, September 16, 2020 7:14 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced Yes you are correct, The cuff pressurises the blood flow through a vain in the elbow / bicept and then as the cuff releases pressure the flow starts which is what is listened for, And then as the noise of the flow stops that is where they get the end results from. blood pressure, was, RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
Well, after my wife did a little research, Sieghard, of course, nailed it. The watch does not do blood pressure on its own. It needs the Qardio Arm wireless cuff, or maybe another iPhone compatible cuff, to get the information and then the watch can speak it, etc. The app for the Qardio Arm can also speak it from the iPhone without a watch with VoiceOver. But having the new blood oxygen level combined with the other health data, can be a good argument to get the new watch. Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
Responding to the question of whether sleep tracking can be used on the older Apple Watch, I saw a reference on AppleVis that sleep tracking was apart of WatchOS 7. So you should be able to use it on a watch Series 4 or later. You could probably use on Series 3, but I think Series 4 is snappier and runs better over all, at least given the issues my wife has with her Series 2. One could make the argument for getting a Series 6 to charge the watch quicker and for the faster processor. I'm going to give my Series 4 to my wife and get a Series 6 for myself. Great! Well, would you mind saying how close the watch and the cuff are? I think lots of us would be interested. I know I am. That could be a determining factor in whether I buy a watch. Actually, while I have no idea about the Watch’s capability here, there are lots of wrist cuffs out there that while they may not be as accurate as the upper arm ones, what I’m told by several medical people, so long as you always use the same cuff, you can rely on those numbers so long as you follow best practice with any home blood pressure tool, which is to take it in to your doctors office and have them check your blood pressure with their cuff and then with yours to see how close it is or is not. Then you know, if your cuff is 20 points higher than the doctors, if you use that as your baseline, you can go from there. I would never personally rely on a wrist cuff, but I’m also not a doctor. I wonder if these watches could someday measure our blood pressure, maybe by some mathematical formula t¢that could combine our oxygen levels, with heart rate, or something to that effect? It'd save one money by having an all-in-one device! Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
Wouldn’t that constitute the same? Only because the adapter you might need for the charging Cable to work is about $19. So, the price wouldn’t go down as much by excluding the charger from the packaging. they might as well compensate by giving us wireless chargers or at least a bundle that includes such products that can charge wirelessly since most of their products have that feature Or even wireless EarPods as a discount. . RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
I didn’t see this in Richard’s summary, so I assume this was mentioned during the event. I personally like this move, since I don’t need any more of these chargers around my house or in my local landfill. It would be even better if Apple knocked a few bucks off the price of the Apple Watch and had a bundle that included a charger along with a few other peripherals. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Richard Turner Sent: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 7:16 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced They said during the event that as part of their plan to reduce their carbon footprint to 0 by 2030, they would not be including the charging brick because most people have all that they need. Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
I still have the original Apple Watch, which is now known as the series zero., and the battery is not to bad for 5 years old. I would say that it would be comparable to a 5 year old iPhone. Just like the phones slow down over time, so do the watches. I would not be surprised if you could get a new battery for the watch as long as you let Apple do it. It would be a good question to ask Apple. Hi, I'm sure they're all equally accessible. I've had a Series 3 for 3 years, and the battery is still fine, so it definitely lasts a while. Interesting. So they can’t be replaced even at an Apple store? I wonder how long the batteries tend to last. There is a history with Apple Watch. I know people that still have series 3 models. So that would be what? Three or four years ago? Three I guess. That’s not bad. RE: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
My hesitation in thinking about buying an Apple Watch is that I have not been able to confirm that the batteries cannot be replaced, which is what someone told me. If that is true, it means you have to plan on replacing it whenever the battery wears out, which granted, probably won’t be for 3 to 5 years and maybe more, but that just seems very odd to me and I have not been close enough to wanting one to call Apple to confirm if that is true. The Watch SE does not have the blood oxygen censor, but I'm not sure what else it does not have in the heart stuff. It probably doesn't have the ECG, but it should have the blood presure and the rest.I think since it can be ordered today, maybe the details are on their page? hi, I've not got an iPad but, I've thought about getting one since several people say the sound quality is better for consuming audio books, music and other things. Re: Brief summary of the apple Event, no new iPhone announced
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the new lower cost watch has the heart stuff either, does it? I know it has the fall notification, but I didn’t think it had the heart thing. They also announced the new bundle subscriptions, but I found that whole thing disappointing, because you get the arcade service in the less expensive bundle. For a blind person, that’s a showstopper in my view. It’s too bad. I would have preferred the news instead of the games, or something more flexible, where you could have a choice.
