Re: Celular Data and personal hotspot?

2014-06-01 Thread Robert Doc Wright
The one thing we haven't asked you or I must have forgotten, are you speaking
of a phone or a different idevice? I think what might help here is if someone
can point us in the direction of where we can investigate which type of app
would tend to use the most data when the device is not on wireless.

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?

My personal hot spot is turned off already. Thanks.

The way it works is that the phone uses the data connecttion to access the
internet. When you turn Hotspot on the phone becomes a gateway to the
internet for other devices to connect to the internet through the phone.

Hi Micky and all,

Next Friday I will be going away for the overnight and will be staying with a
friend. Do I need to turn off my cellular data to just restrict it to wi fi
only?

My personal hot spot is turned off already. Thanks.

RE: Celular Data and personal hotspot?

2014-05-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Lori,

Whether you turn off cellular data depends on how much data your plan
includes. If you have 2 Gb which is pretty standard then I would not worry.
I never turn cellular data off because to a large extend I have an iPhone
because it gives me access to all the mobile technology and a lot of that
does rely on cellular data. If you turn cellular data off and are not on
WiFi you can, for example, not use SIRI at all. You are the only one who has
to decide based on your data limit and your usage. If you stream music all
day long I would not do that via cellular data.

Regards,

Sieghardfor me the iP

Re: Celular Data and personal hotspot?

2014-05-31 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I'm not sure what the situation is here, but you might want to turn
cellular data off if you're going to a place where you don't have access
to a cellular tower. You'll save quite a bit of battery in this case.
Also, if you'll be paying international charges for your cellular data,
you may want to turn cellular off to ensure you don't get such charges.
There may also be cases when you're running close to your data limit,
and you have access to wifi, where you may want to shut down your
cellular data.
