Re: New Aftershokz Aeropex bone conduction headset thoughts

2019-08-03 Thread Nimer Jaber
Hello,

I have them as well, but am using them on Android. I also notice the
behavior that you describe with them having to wake up because they
hybernate or something. I think the sound quality sounds a bit better to me
on Android, but I don't know how the mic quality is, except that it seems a
bit quieter to people I talk to. I don't find them to be more
comfortable... they tend to dig into the inside of my ear and give me more
ear fatigue than the older ones. I use mine all day. I also don't think the
battery will last as long because at the end of the day, the battery is at
a lower power level than my air would be. I am not hugely impressed with
these either, although I do like the magnetic charging as long as you don't
lose the two cords they give you.

Thanks.

New Aftershokz Aeropex bone conduction headset thoughts

2019-08-03 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
Hello list,

So, as quite a few of us are users of the different Aftershokz bone
conduction headsets, I thought I’d post some of my thoughts with the new
Aeropex headset that they just put out last week.

This isn’t a thorough review or anything. There are enough of those out
there on CNet or The Verge and similar techy sites for a super detailed
overview. More just my initial observations after having them for a couple
of days and using them with my iPhone and Voiceover.

In general, the Aeropex are lighter and thinner than the Trekz Air that they
replace. They’ve also got Bluetooth 5.0. For me and my 7 3/8 round head,
they do feel a bit more comfortable than the Trekz Air, but it’s not like
the Air were uncomfortable to begin with. Just an overall lighter feel to
them I guess you could say.

One of the big selling points along with a smaller footprint and Bluetooth
5.0 with the Aeropex is that there’s less noise bleed and less vibration
through the transducers at louder sound levels. Personally, If I’ve got my
headphones on and blasting, the sound bleed is kind of irrelevant to me.
Yes, there’s less vibration, but I can’t say the Trekz Air vibrating
bothered me.

One main thing I’m noticing is that with the Aeropex and Voiceover with the
iPhone, is that audio has a tinny and muffled sound quality to it. The Trekz
Air to my ears/cheek bones at least have a richer and deeper base feel to
them. For things like music and videos, the sound quality is fine, but for
me who is on my phone all day for this or that reason and always using VO,
this muffled tinniness stands out. Another thing I’m noticing is that when
dictating something with VO, there seem to be a lot more mistakes. I find
myself having to make way more corrections or erase everything and try again
than with the Trekz Air. There’s also this weird thing with VO where I’m
guessing it may be some sort of battery saving behavior, but for a micro
second, the headset seems to hibernate. This causes VO speech to sometimes
get cut off at the beginning of whatever it was going to say. This
hesitation is minimal, but enough to affect the flow of output speech by VO.
The Trekz Air pare that I have doesn’t do this and is overall very
responsive. I don’t notice any improvement as far as latency with Bluetooth
5.0 on the Aeropex and 4.2 with the Trekz Air either.

In short, I’m going to give it a few more days, but my first impression is
that I’m not really impressed with the Aeropex. Yes, they’re lighter, have a
longer battery and all that, but the audio quality for the iPhone TTS in my
opinion is less than the Trekz Air and the dictation mistakes are too
frequent and substantial to just be a random thing or maybe me mumbling etc.

The Aeropex are $160 and the Trekz Air got bumped down to $120.

Anyway, if anyone else grabbed the Aeropex, I’d like to know what they
think. Maybe I got a bum unit or maybe I just have a finicky ear/cheek bone.

No, I didn't get the ones that have the talking feedback. I sent for them

like the talking feature. Where did you buy those?

The fact that my charger was almost hot rather concerns me and I think I
might call AT Giys tomorrow. I really can't understand that. I've charged
devices using this adaptor for at least two years and never had a problem
 with it.

Thanks for your feedback and maybe I'll look into the talking ones. I'd
appreciate it if you could tell me where you bought them. Thanks.

I just received my new AfterShokz Bluez today and, as recommended, I
charged them. I used a standard USB charger, which I use for a lot of
devices, and, also as recommended, I charged the earphones for three hours,
or just a little more. When I went to unplug the headset, my charger was
very warm, which I thought was rather unusual.. The headset works
perfectly, however, but I was rather concerned about the warmth of my

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. By the way, I purchased
them from AT Guys and they are very reliable.

 Thanks much.

Re: New Aftershokz Bluez

2013-08-05 Thread Andy Baracco
It is contoured to fit your head, but if it fits too loose, there is a
adjustable tension band that clips onto the sides that will give you a tighter
fit. I guess i have a wierd shaped head, because I need the band to get a good
fit. You want the transducers to sit tightly against the bones in front of your
ears to get the best fidelity, and to better protect against audio leak, even
though you will get some anyway.

Re: New Aftershokz Bluez

2013-08-05 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, Andy and List!

I just received my new AfterShokz Bluez today and, as recommended, I charged
them. I used a standard USB charger, which I use for a lot of devices, and,
also as recommended, I charged the earphones for three hours, or just a little
more. When I went to unplug the headset, my charger was very warm, which I
thought was rather unusual.. The headset works perfectly, however, but I was
rather concerned about the warmth of my charger. It wasn't quite hot, but
almost. Is this normal?

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. By the way, I purchased them
from AT Guys and they are very reliable.

Thanks much.

I bought them directly from Aftershokz in late March. Mike May had a special
where you got 40% off. Actually at that time, there were 3 such specials going
at almost the same time. I received them in early April. Recently, there was
an issue where the right side audio got flaky. BTW, these were not the talking
ones. I called Aftershokz and because they were still under warranty, they
told me to return them and they would replace them. The replacements arrived
last week, and they had the talking feature. I guess these are the latest
model. I don’t know if they have a trade up policy.

Hi Andy,

Though I know the Windows world very well, I'm still somewhat new to all
this apple IOS stuff. :) While wearing these headphones, can one complete
various activities that require lots of vigorous movement such as moving
boxes around, sweeping, pushing and pulling heavy things, or navigating with
a light jog? I guess I'm asking if they stay in place. What about sweat?
Will sweat somehow make this headset difficult to stay in place? I don't
know if this is of any use to anyone else, so if I'm asking something I
shouldn't, someone please let me know.

I bought them directly from Aftershokz in late March. Mike May had a special
where you got 40% off. Actually at that time, there were 3 such specials
going at almost the same time. I received them in early April. Recently,
there was an issue where the right side audio got flaky. BTW, these were not
the talking ones. I called Aftershokz and because they were still under
warranty, they told me to return them and they would replace them. The
replacements arrived last week, and they had the talking feature. I guess
these are the latest model. I don’t know if they have a trade up policy.

Hi, Andy,

No, I didn't get the ones that have the talking feedback. I sent for them
before I knew there was such a thing and now I'm regretting it because I'd
like the talking feature.

Re: New Aftershokz Bluez

2013-08-03 Thread Lisa belville
Andy, thanks for this. I was thinking some audio output would be awesome.
I purchased my pair in May and didn't get them in June due to them being on
backorder. There's no audio output at all, though it's not hard to
determine what the series of beeps and tones means, still, the more output
the better with a product like this.

Lisa

I may have had an encounter with the ugly stick, but the whole tree is after
you!

Subject: New Aftershokz Bluez

Yesterday I reported that i had to obtain a replacement set of Aftershokz
Bluez. Well, i guess they must have recently came out with a new model,
because these include some spoken output. When you first turn them on, a
female voice says “Power on’. When turning them on for the first time, the
voice says “Pairing”. When they connect to the iPhone, the voice says
something like “Audio device connected”. When you turn them off, the voice
says, at least at present, “Battery high, power off.”. It is to be noted
that even when fully charged, in the iPhone status line, the phone reports
“Bluetooth battery 88%”. I think that this is perhaps an issue with the way
the iPhone reports on the bluetooth battery, and not with the Aftershokz.

I'm not wearing a diaper, so don't try to change me.
