internet connection. This app works wonderfully with VoiceOver.

Do you know anything about this in general, but in particular if this kind of

the story seemed to indicate the only way around it with confidence was to
get a new Apple device, presumably one with a different and secure U D I D.

You mentioned you had 63 or so passwords within 1Password. I presume you

RE: New Tech Doctor podcast entitled 1Password and VoiceOver

2012-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Wow, you really have faith in Dropbox. I would not trust them with my entire
database of passwords. I thought OnePassword worked among various platforms
and devices, e.g. you use it on your PC and if you add a passcard or
whatever they call it it should be available on other computers you may have
and your iPhone. I personally use Roboform and the Roboform Everywhere
service which costs $20 a year stores all my passcards and SafeNotes on
their servers in an encrypted and secure way.

Hi,

This issue is covered in detail on the latest NOSILLA cast over at
http://www.podfeet.com

As far as 1password, I save the password database in DropBox so it would be
automatically available on a new device as soon as I installed DropBox on
the new device.

2012-09-12 Thread Scott Howell
Well I have to disagree with you on this one my friend. First of all the
1Password is encrypted and it would be nearly impossible for anyone to crack
the file even if they have it. THe fact is the file is encrypted on your
machine and not somebody's server. I'd be more concerned about my data being on
a remote server that is encrypted by that server instead of it being encrypted
on my machine and stored on a remote server.

The 1Password app includes a version that only runs on the iPhone for about
$9.99 and another that runs on both iPhone and iPad and is the pro version for
I believe $14.95. You might as well spend the extra couple dollars and go with
the pro version IMHO. I have been using 1Password for years and highly
recommend it.

2012-09-05 Thread Robert Carter
Hi All,

In this just published Tech Doctor podcast, Robert talks with Anne Robertson
who lives in France.

In addition to working as a translator, Anne teaches blind and visually
impaired people to use the Mac. Robert and Anne discuss her approach to
training and explore how folks in France go about acquiring technology.

They discuss the use of braille and the popularity of ebooks. Anne reads lots
of ebooks from a Canadian company called Cobo. These books are accessible on
both the Mac and iOs devices. Check out the podcast for all of the details.

Re: New Tech Doctor Podcast entitled From Angry Roar To Gentle Purr

Are you being sarcastic and pointing out that this is an off topic post
or are you really asking if Mountain Lion runs on IOS devices? If the
former, I'd say point it out to the moderators. If the later, I don't
know myself the exact relationship between Mountain Lion and IOS, but I
wouldn't be surprised if they have a lot in common. I'm guessing since
this podcast has to do with a USB bootable recovery drive, it would be
off topic, since such a drive wouldn't come in very handy for an iPhone.

I have to comment here and say that the TidBits site and the Take Control
series of books are excellent. If you want some really good reading material,
you will definitely find it from TidBits.

New Tech Doctor Podcast

2012-08-11 Thread Robert Carter
Hi,

This Tech Doctor podcast features a presentation that I gave at an access
technology conference for the Veterans Administration on August 9, 2012 in
Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I compare trends and paradigms that were developed in the early days of the
access technology industry with current trends and evolving paradigms in access
technology as we see them emerging today.

As always, the podcast is available in iTunes, on iBlink radio and at

2012-07-12 Thread Robert Carter
In Puerto Rico With The Caribbean Blind Man
In this podcast, the Tech Doctor visits with a most charming and fascinating
man from Puerto Rico named Ricky Gonzalez

You will get to know Ricky and hear the wonderful and relaxing sounds of the
Caribbean.

As we talk, you will get an idea of what life is like for people who are blind
and living on the island. You will definitely enjoy Ricky telling us about what
it was like for him to discover that the iPhone is accessible and what this
technology means to him.

Ricky's warmth and generous spirit is infectious. This is a podcast that just
might stick with you for a while.

However, when you announce them, could you add the title to the subject

Otherwise, one never knows if it is a continuation of the thread about the
last New Tech Doctor Podcast, or truly a New Tech Doctor Podcast.

Thanks,

Re: New Tech Doctor Podcast

Hi Chuck,

When you say the text sent to Dropbox, in what way are you thinking. Would you
want Fleksy to be able to save a file or would you want to be able to paste the
text in to a file in your Dropbox folder? I am unclear what you are wanting.
Fleksy doesn't create any files it is just an alternative keyboard that runs in
its own app. It allows you to have the text pasted in to a message or email.
You can also tweet the text. It can be copied to the clipboard and pasted in to
any app that can except text. I'm just not getting what you want Fleksy to do
with in the Dropbox context.

Thanks,

Robert Carter

I assume that when Fleksy sends an email or text, it creates a small text
file. If this is true I would like it to be able to send this small text
file to Dropbox.
If it does not create a text file, would it be possible to adapt the app to

There you could transfer the text file anywhere you need it.

 Hi Chuck,

When you say the text sent to Dropbox, in what way are
you thinking. Would you want Fleksy to be able to save a
file or would you want to be able to paste the text in to
a file in your Dropbox folder? I am unclear what you are
wanting. Fleksy doesn't create any files it is just an
alternative keyboard that runs in its own app. It allows
you to have the text pasted in to a message or email. You
can also tweet the text. It can be copied to the
clipboard and pasted in to any app that can except text.
I'm just not getting what you want Fleksy to do with in
 the Dropbox context.

 Thanks,

OK, great.

Perhaps you'd raise the qusetion though of caps when they occur elsewhere.
Being a typist, I just want to put them in!

Please also mention other countries for them to consider the dictionary

 Hi Carol,

I don't know anything about Fleksy and dictionaries for
other countries. You couldn't hear the key clicks very
well on the podcast because I had my mixer plugged in to
the iPhone's headphone jack and key clicks are reduced in
volume when headphones are plugged in.

Fleksy creats capital letters automatically at the
beginning of each sentence. Again, this is early days and
I am sure that the app will continue to mature with new
 features and capabilities.

You don't have to be very accurate at all. You just have
to emulate the qwerty pattern and fleksy will predict the
correct word most of the time even if you don't actually
get a single character correct. It is pretty amazing.

they will supply dictionaries for other countries so that
is truly as versatile as possible?

You didn't mention in your podcast how you create capital
letters. I'm just curious, of course!

My only slight concern is just how accurate you need to
be in going from letter two letter in order to get an
accurate output. No doubt I will find out and possibly
improve my writing technique as I use the app.

Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time and effort
