RE: Please explore a wonderful gift by APH, GoodMaps Explore

2020-09-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is nothing new, many apps came out as paid apps and later dropped in price
or went free altogether because somehow the developer found a different way to
make money and I assume this will always be happening.
It's no different from buying a product you like only to find it elsewhere for
cheaper or to see it go on sale a week later.

Hi Amy,

Like you, I Purchased Nearby Explorer. I was rather surprised and disappointed
to learn that there was an update they could not be downloaded from the App
Store. I believe it is a PH is intention to only work on this app. That’s
unfortunate, because a number of us did buy that product and we can’t even get
the latest update for it.

Does anyone know if they will keep updating Nearby Explorer? I have
the paid version.
Thanks,

Hi,

This app might become valuable for me in the future but for now, in my small
East Texas town, Nacogdoches Texas. It is ten years out of date on several
businesses.

So far, I can’t figure out how to look around more than half a mile. All stay
safe,

Note, when it loads onto your iPhone, it will be called Explore, not Good Maps
or even Good Maps Explore.

If you want to send feedback or ask questions, the support address is
supp...@goodmaps.com <mailto:supp...@goodmaps.com>

Their phone is: (502) 845-3113

I found 2 out of date Points Of Interest within two blocks of my house in the
first 15 minutes of using the Look Around tab.

I sent them that information.

You can search for an address or POI from the location screen.

You can use a “getting warmer” method, or get directions using Google Maps or
Apple Maps launched from within the app.

For a first release, this looks quite impressive.

One more note, One of the out of date POI locations is a restaurant that has
been out of business for at least 3 years, so I searched for the name of the
new restaurant that went in about 6 months after the other one closed and found
it easily.

So, it is in their data base, they just have to update the info spoken in the
Look Around tab.

GoodMaps Explore, an accessible wayfinding app designed primarily for people
who are blind or visually impaired, which sets a new standard for indoor
navigation across the globe. GoodMaps Explore uses audio instructions to
communicate routing and critical spatial information as users move through a
space, whether indoors or outdoors, drawing upon GoodMaps’ state-of-the-art
digital maps. In doing so, GoodMaps has solved four problems that have
frustrated the field for several decades by:

1. delivering superior positioning accuracy with minimal infrastructure,
2. dramatically speeding the process to digitally map a building, which
provides the foundation for the app,
3. creating a way for building owners to securely control their mapping data,
4. providing the public with a complete package of maps with an app to actually
use them.

May I respectfully suggest that everyone contact APH directly. This is not
uncommon, but irritating for those who paid out the money.
Also, it is very common for APH to not support something for more than a very
few years.
But, after this note, I will shut up on the topic of APH.
Check out this new app, it is free, and probably takes the best of Nearby
Explorer and rolls it into this new one...

everyone from now on. So, eventually the paid version will not be updated,
just the free one. Not exactly sure when that will take affect.

I believe that the paid version of Near by Explorer is already frozen. The free
version of the app is called "Near By Explorer Online" and it is being updated
currently. I do not know what may happen to it given this new app.

2020-09-15 Thread Richard Turner
May I respectfully suggest that everyone contact APH directly. This is not
uncommon, but irritating for those who paid out the money.
Also, it is very common for APH to not support something for more than a very
few years.
But, after this note, I will shut up on the topic of APH.
Check out this new app, it is free, and probably takes the best of Nearby
Explorer and rolls it into this new one...

Amny, my understanding from them is that nearby explorer will be free to
everyone from now on. So, eventually the paid version will not be updated,
just the free one. Not exactly sure when that will take affect.

1. delivering superior positioning accuracy with minimal infrastructure,
2. dramatically speeding the process to digitally map a building, which
provides the foundation for the app,
3. creating a way for building owners to securely control their mapping data,
4. providing the public with a complete package of maps with an app to actually
use them.

Setting a new Standard across the globe, does not at all indicate that this
company will make it available across the globe. we can use the analogy of
Americans with disability act. ADA did set the standards and other countries
followed suit with their own laws.

Goodmaps will look for partners but as I said UK Appstore is unlikely to have
it anytime soon.

if that is true, they need to learn how to write accurate bragging statements
in the first paragraph.
They say,

which sets a new standard for indoor navigation across the globe.

That implies to me they plan on it being available everywhere.

2020-09-14 Thread Richard Turner
Malcolm,
I’d suggest writing them and asking when it may be in the UK.
It says something about around the world, so it could be just the first release
like some other apps have done is only available here in the US.
I would hope this would change so apps are more widely available from the start…

an accessible wayfinding app designed primarily for people who are blind or
visually impaired, which sets a new standard for indoor navigation across the
globe. GoodMaps Explore uses audio instructions to communicate routing and
critical spatial information as users move through a space, whether indoors or
outdoors, drawing upon GoodMaps’ state-of-the-art digital maps. In doing so,
GoodMaps has solved four problems that have frustrated the field for several
decades by:

1. delivering superior positioning accuracy with minimal infrastructure,
2. dramatically speeding the process to digitally map a building, which
provides the foundation for the app,
3. creating a way for building owners to securely control their mapping data,
4. providing the public with a complete package of maps with an app to actually
use them.

RE: Please explore a wonderful gift by APH, GoodMaps Explore

2020-09-14 Thread Richard Turner
Note, when it loads onto your iPhone, it will be called Explore, not Good Maps
or even Good Maps Explore.

If you want to send feedback or ask questions, the support address is
supp...@goodmaps.com<mailto:supp...@goodmaps.com>
