Hi. Since there's no braille on the touch screen itself, the deafblind person have to get some output in other ways. So yes, this does require a Braille display since a deafblind person is unable to hear the speech. Re: [Maccessibility] The Humanware Communicator for iOS
It does have a few advantages, but not worth $99. I beta tested this over the summer. But you're right that most of the features already exist in apps like Notes. For example, you can set up the app to send longer fraises with the press of like 3 keystrokes. You can do that with auto correction. About the only thing unique to this app is the fact that the sighted person must tap on ok to acknowledge the fact that they understand what is being asked of them. I guess what bothers me as well is the fact that Humanware is really pushing their products in such a way as to not acknowledge other companies. The app description talks about how you can connect an iDevice to either the Brailliant or the Apex, instead of saying that it can be connected to any iDevice with any display. But there's a reason. Recently, the FCC has alocated a total of 10 million dollars to go toward funding telecomunications equipment for low income individuals who are deaf-blind. Each state was given a certain amount of dollars. And since the deaf-blind communicator which only worked with the mPower was not being even acknowledged any more, this is their answer. Just like FS and all the other companies, they think they can make some quick $$ by marketing this to the government. Scott On 9/8/12, Kevin Barry krba...@gmail.com wrote: It wasn't a press release. Re: [Maccessibility] The Humanware Communicator for iOS
If you're low income and live in the US, you may be able to get a device, but Im afraid they're not just giving money away. Sorry. LOL. But if you're really wondering, let me know what state you're in and I can give you the name of the agency that you can contact regarding this. Each state has a certified state that is supposed to be running the program. Perkins School for the Blind is doing this in states where no agency has applied. Re: [Maccessibility] The Humanware Communicator for iOS
I'd be happy to get an I thing. They've been out for like four years and I've never had one. I'm ashamed and all red in the sheepish face. So, yes, whatever I can get, I'm below poverty for the US, and live in Oregon; whatever info you have would be curiously followed up on.
