RE: A big update is coming to the Sonos app

2024-05-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Chris, it would be if it's true. I assumed it was, but usually Jonathan has
good information and if he heard that the accessibility of the new app is
terrible then I am sure he has good reasons to say this. If I hear back from my
Sonos contact I will certainly provide that information. In any case, we'll
find out in a day and a half provided you choose to upgrade. I have two
systems, one at home and one at my retail store and I may just try it first
there with an iPad we have before updating the app on my phone.

I just did a Google search for "Will the new Sonos app maintain Voiceover
accessibility" and the first search result was a link to exactly that question
which was asked by another blind Sonos user in the Sonos community. Here is the
reply given by a Sonos employee:

Welcome to the Sonos Community!
Apologies for the delay - I wanted to ensure I had a correct answer for you.
Yes, the new Sonos app has been tested with voice-over and will continue to be
accessible to voice-over users. We aim to keep improving this experience and
our ultimate goal is to have an even better experience for voice-over users
with our new app update.
I hope this helps.

I always get Leary when I hear about a pending update for the
Sonos app. So far the accessibility has been great, but I have well over $1
invested in Sonos gear and I can’t help but get a bit nervous wondering if some
major accessibility issue will come up and turn my speakers in to paper
weights. Having said all that, I’m excited for the update and just hope Sonos
don’t brake something major.

Subject: A big update is coming to the Sonos app

For all the Sonos fans who may not be signed up to receive emails from Sonos, I
just received the below:

Faster. Easier. Better - App update available May 7

Get ready for a fresh look, easier control, and new ways to personalize your
listening experience.

Your questions answered

Is this a new app to download? No, this is an update to the existing Sonos app.

How will this affect my system? We've taken great care to ensure that this
update only enhances your Sonos experience. Your products, features, and
services will work as they always have, and all your settings will be saved.

What new features does the update include? We’ll reveal more details when the
update is available.

The email did include a "preview" link, I believe there are some visuals on
that website which may show some of the new look, but the below information is
also provided, let's hope Sonos will maintain their excellent track record
regarding Voiceover accessibility and the new app will be fully accessible as
the app has been now for around 11 or 12 years. I used to be a beta tester for
Sonos, but stopped quite a long time ago so I have no personal experience with
this update yet and will find out what it's like on May 7 as everybody else.
Here now the info they do provide:
