RE: Be My AI Mentioned Amongst TIME Best Inventions of 2023

2023-10-27 Thread Richard Turner
Scott, et al,
I wrote i...@bemyeyes.com to ask about offering texting for volunteers
especially for the Deaf-Blind community.
Here is Hans' response:
"We have been looking into how we can help the deaf blind community, but has
not been able to create a really meaningful solution. However, I know that the
BMI AI solution is something that you can use as a blind person."

I suggest everyone who wants to see texting volunteers for help also write
i...@bemyeyes.com and request it.
Clearly all volunteers are using a smart phone, so I would think a texting
solution could be found.

Well deserved, but I still wish BME would work on developing an interface so
that one can text a volunteer instead of calling. There are some circumstances
where a blind hearing person may find this of value, but they're not providing
as much access to as many people as they could be. I understand be My AI works
with braille, but what I also understand is that those who can hear are able to
make audio calls to volunteers. Why can't DeafBlind people be given the same
access?
All of that said, yes this tech is very revolutionary, I just wish people would
start thinking in more broad terms sometimes. I've passed along the feedback a
few times on the lack of texting, hopefully if enough people ask for it they
will take it into consideration!

Be My AI, the first-of-its-kind digital visual assistant powered by GPT-4, was
mentioned amongst the Time Best Invention of 2023
<https://time.com/collection/best-inventions-2023/6326986/openai-gpt-4/>
thanks to the collaboration between Be My Eyes and OpenAI. The annual list
features the most groundbreaking inventions, including new products and ideas,
that TIME editors have identified as "life changing".

"Be My Eyes is proud to be mentioned among the brilliant innovations included
in TIME's Best Inventions 2023 list with Be My AI. This new tool is providing
people who are blind or have low vision with a better way to address everyday
needs and acquire tools and visual descriptions never before possible," said
Michael Buckley, CEO of Be My Eyes. "We are grateful to TIME for this
incredible recognition, as we work to create a more accessible world for people
of all abilities."

This acknowledgment comes after a week from Be My Eyes' celebrations for
officially reaching 1,000,000 chats on Be My AI. As of today, over 5,500 blind
people are accessing Be My AI every day, asking over 30,000+ questions daily to
the AI-powered tool.

"The new feature of having an AI assistant, specifically Be My AI, has truly
been a game-changer for me. It allows me to experience the world in a whole new
way by providing detailed descriptions of various things," says Malak, who has
been beta testing Be My AI since March. "Thanks to Be My AI, I now have the
ability to enjoy visual experiences and share moments in ways that were once
unimaginable. Be My Eyes' contribution has made a significant impact on our
lives, and we are incredibly thankful for their invaluable support."

Be My AI is currently available for all Be My Eyes users on iOS. We have
already started closed beta testing Be My AI for Android devices and our goal
is to move it to broadly-available open beta status in the coming months. It is
already possible to sign up on the waitlist for Android beta testing in the Be
My Eyes app.

2023-10-26 Thread Rob Armstrong
Be My AI is just one of the features of the Be My Eyes app. If you already
have the Be My Eyes app, you already have Be My AI.

If you need to install it, go to the app store, search for Be My Eyes, and
download it. Yes, Be My Eyes is free.

When you first use Be My Eyes, I think you have to enter your email address to
create an account.

Re: Be My AI Mentioned Amongst TIME Best Inventions of 2023

2023-10-26 Thread Scott Davert
Well deserved, but I still wish BME would work on developing an
interface so that one can text a volunteer instead of calling. There
are some circumstances where a blind hearing person may find this of
value, but they're not providing as much access to as many people as
they could be. I understand be My AI works with braille, but what I
also understand is that those who can hear are able to make audio
calls to volunteers. Why can't DeafBlind people be given the same
access?
All of that said, yes this tech is very revolutionary, I just wish
people would start thinking in more broad terms sometimes. I've passed
along the feedback a few times on the lack of texting, hopefully if
enough people ask for it they will take it into consideration!
