I'm still trying to work out how I'll do it, since my version of iOS looks 
different than what's being described in both the Shortcuts book and the 
podcasts.

If I understand thins right, you're already using a Siri shortcut when you do 
something like tell Siri to set up a calendar event for you.
You're not having to manually open up the app and flick through all the 
different fields and fill in the fields yourself; instead you're giving siri 
verbal instructions and the iOS and Siri's AI capabilities are doing the 
legwork, opening up the app, and filling in the fields by using AI to work out 
what you're verbally saying.

iOS12 and up gives the iPhone user the ability to set up their own shortcuts 
instead of just having to rely on what Apple gives us. If I'm missing 
something, someone will fill in the gaps and correct my misstatements.

I'm still trying to work out how I'll do it, since my version of iOS
looks different than what's being described in both the Shortcuts book
and the podcasts.

If I understand thins right, you're already using a Siri shortcut when
you do something like tell Siri to set up a calendar event for you.
You're not having to manually open up the app and flick through all
the different fields and fill in the fields yourself; instead you're
