Re: Can anyone recommend a good/accessible anti-virus app/programme for IPad/IPhone?

2015-06-25 Thread Steve
Well, this is an interesting issue at the current time.

There are several anti-virus programs for the iPhone--Aveira, AVG, Avast,
Integra Virus-Barrier among others come to mind.

There is a myth that because of the IOS sand-boxed environment, it is immune
from viruses. I wouldn't go that far, although the environment does give one
a lot more protection than Android or certainly Windows.

Last year, there was an app called wirelessLurker that installed on to iPhones
connected to MAC computers. And, many Hong Kong protesters got Xsser installed
as a Trojan Horse which got access to photos, text messages and emails.

But, you can potentially be infected by opening attachments in email messages;
and it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't web pages out there that could
execute something on the iPhone.

But, Apple is undertaking a marketing effort to remove all programs that
reference themselves as anti-virus from the App Store, so I don't know if
these programs are still there. I read an article somewhere a couple months
ago, that Integra virus-barrier had been removed by Apple.

I don't think there are any. Anyhow, I don't thing you can get a Virus on an
iOS device the same way as on a computer, if you could, you would hear more
about it.

Subject: Can anyone recommend a good/accessible anti-virus app/programme for
IPad/IPhone?

Hi all

Wondering if anyone can help with this. Was just wondering if anyone could
recommend a good and accessible anti-virus app/programme I could put on my IPad
and IPhone??

My reason for asking is that a friend of mine has just managed to get a
very very nasty virus on his Mac, simply while trying to access a perfectly
legit website. His Apple trainer came out last night to see if there was
anything at all she could do to fix the problem, but the virus had basically
trashed his computer. So she's had to take the Mac back with her, wipe it
completely and is going to have to completely reinstall everything!

Luckily for me I already have anti-virus software on my Mac, but having
witnessed all that first-hand it did get me thinking about protecting my
IPhone and IPad. So if anyone has any ideas of any good apps that will do
this suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

2015-06-24 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Apple doesn't make the API's available that malware scanning
applications would need to detect and remove malware, so I doubt you'll
find many antivirus programs that actually do much on IOS. Although IOS
has vulnerabilities, and malware has shown up on IOS devices, the fact
that you have to go through the App Store to get applications on your
system and the way each application only has access to it's own space,
keeps malware from being an issue on IOS.
