RE: FantastiCal Adding birthdays?
Have you explored the native Calendar app in Month view lately? Fantastical has not worked right since they moved to version 3, and got worse when they came up with the subscription stickup. My wife uses it, but she is sighted. I hope you can sort out a way to use the free app, but certainly don't bother paying for it. Re: FantastiCal Adding birthdays?
Greetings. I have been using Fantastical for the last 4 or 5 years, and will continue to use the free part of the app for the future. I opted not to pay for the subscription since it doesn't really offer things that seem all that much better to me. In other words, I can still use the features of Fantastical that I love. I should also say that I hardly ever use Siri, but Fantastical still meets my needs. I've allowed it access to my contacts and I'm assuming it gathered birthday info from there. I haven't had to specify whether a date is a birthday, but would assume that marking it as an annual event would be sufficient. The company continues to release updates to Fantastical, so if there are issues, or feedback then please do send that to the company. There's probably a way of doing that through the app, or one could leave a review of the app on the App Store. I'm not aware of lifetime subscriptions, but I do know that Weather Gods recently went to a subscription model for new features. Regarding WG, those who paid for the app before are grandfathered in and don't have to pay for the subscription, so they in essence have a lifetime subscription. Anyway, I love Fantastical for so many reasons, but use what works for you. I'm glad the native calendar has improved. I don't use reminders very much , and like that they are included in Fantastical. I also like that I have a choice of whether to enter times or use the pickers for times when scheduling a new event. The new model can be tedious to move passed the month view calendar, but it can be done. Truly, even with anything like a reasonable life time subscription, you can do most of the actual Calendar features with the native calendar app now. And, I prefer a separate weather app anyway, so I use the native calendar and only load Fantastical to remind me why I don't use it on a regular basis. An every year is a reoccurring event, so I am glad that works. Yes, the ability to write out the details on one line and have it correctly place the information is what drew me to it way back in its earlier versions. And, having reminders and events together is nice. But, if you use Siri to schedule a reminder, you can also ask Siri, do I have any reminders today? Or, also do I have any appointments today. Or ask about tomorrow or a specific date... The good news is, that if you use Siri to set a reminder, it will show up in Fantastical and the same with Siri setting events, it puts it in the native calendar, and Fantastical displays it for you. So, the best of both worlds. When I was teaching and had complicated schedules, Fantastical was great. But now, the native calendar has custom scheduling that works quite well, but now I'm retired and don't need that. I'd keep enjoying Fantastical where it helps you and use the native app as needed. Re: FantastiCal Adding birthdays?
I'm just so torn! I love how FantastiCal works so easy just writing down in the command line to set an appointment up! and how when you tell Siri to Remind you of such and such, FantastiCal grabs it, and notifies you of it. Thus I guess then I could continue using FantastiCal like this? I agree with you'll that the costs of the subscriptions are a bit expensive! Here in Mexico mxn$99 for a month? for which if you've already have the native iOS apps, definitely I don't see worthwhile. What I'm miss if I were to uninstall and forget about the FantastiCal app, would be the integration in one app, of Calendar and reminders, at least to explore, and to alert you to these. RE: FantastiCal Adding birthdays?
Yes, and I'm not even sure you can do reoccurring appointments with the free Fantastical. It is such a shame that they had to go to the over-priced subscription model. But, since this is a business, I understand their need for an income stream that is somewhat predictable. I just don't see how any calendar function is worth paying for since Apple's native Calendar has gotten so much better. I used to use Fantastical and loved it until they went to the bloody subscription model and changed the interface. I'm not sure you can do what you want. After putting in the calendar event in Fantastical, open the native calendar and edit that event and set it as a yearly event as a birthday.
