Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-05 Thread Mike Arrigo
I also use a thermostat that uses the total connect comfort app, works great.
It's my first thermostat that can be controlled through the internet and I
would never go back to a thermostat without this feature. The current model
nest thermostat is controlled in the google home app and this app is also
accessible. None of the thermostats themselves are accessible so you will need
sighted help to connect the wires and configure the thermostat for the type of
system you have.

Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Cris Ali

Thanks for your clarification Sieghard,

My system is both a heating furnace and an air conditioner together. The
system runs on electricity. I suppose this should make it easier. I do
not know how many wiires extended from the furnace to the thermostat I
have, but I believe it should be four, two for the heat and two for the
Air conditioner. I do not like the idea of having my thermostat
connected to an outlet. In any case, I do not have any outlets close to
the thermostat area of my wall. I am leaning more and more to the nest
third generation because it does not need the C wire. I hope the nest
application is accessible enough on iOS.

Cheers,

pumps with a natural gas furnace as backup when it's too cold for the
heat pump to efficiently draw heat from the air. They are from
American Standard and the company was told by American Standard that
they have to use their smart thermostat because the other ones
wouldn't work correctly with these units. Fortunately their app is
also accessible except for the scheduling part and it si also
compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Thanks Richard. That really helps.

One of the things that makes it  difficult to decide is the fact that
I do not even if the wiring of my heating/cooling system has the
Common wire, usually referred  to as the C wire. So far the only smart
thermostat I found which does not need the C wire is Nest Gen3, also
known as nest learning thermostat. However, I do not know how
accessible the nest app is. Do you have any experience with this app?
How accessible is it?

We have a Honeywell thermostat that uses the Total Connect
Comfort (tcc) app which is completely accessible.

The physical thermostat isn't something I would want to deal
with on my own, but one could mark it to adjust up or down.

So, the real question for me is, is the app they use accessible.

Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I wanted to mention that I thought they'd made it possible to use older
models with the newer Honeywell Home app too that app is quite
accessible by and large I'd say and yes you can mark the unit for the
most necessary icons you'd need to interact with  in an emergency. I
have the Lyric t6Pro here.

Some of their newer thermostats are also home kit compatible.

Just last night for some reason no matter what I did in the Honeywell
app I'd change temperature it'd recognize the change and then put it
back to what it'd been and this is with no scheduling in use.  Whether
the temperature really wasn't changing or VoiceOver was just having some
sort of fit I don't yet know as I didn't have any sighted folk handy at
the time. However, I could just pop into the Home app and change my
temperature and it took hold and I was glad to have an alternative.

Take good care.

Robin

RE: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And of course you also have to consider whether you have only a furnace and
heat or if you also have air conditioning. When I renovated my new retail store
last year I had an entirely new heating system installed which consists of 2
roof top units which are heat pumps with a natural gas furnace as backup when
it's too cold for the heat pump to efficiently draw heat from the air. They are
from American Standard and the company was told by American Standard that they
have to use their smart thermostat because the other ones wouldn't work
correctly with these units. Fortunately their app is also accessible except for
the scheduling part and it si also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Thanks Richard. That really helps.

One of the things that makes it difficult to decide is the fact that I do not
even if the wiring of my heating/cooling system has the Common wire, usually
referred to as the C wire. So far the only smart thermostat I found which does
not need the C wire is Nest Gen3, also known as nest learning thermostat.
However, I do not know how accessible the nest app is. Do you have any
experience with this app? How accessible is it?

Cheers,

We have a Honeywell thermostat that uses the Total Connect Comfort (tcc) app

The physical thermostat isn't something I would want to deal with on my own,
but one could mark it to adjust up or down.
So, the real question for me is, is the app they use accessible.

RE: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am pretty sure the 4th wire is not required on other thermostats, but it is
what delivers power to the thermostat. I know our Honeywell T5 can also be
plugged into a nearby wall outlet with an adapter to receive power instead. In
our case the thermostat is downstairs on a wall where the furnace is basically
just on the other side of the wall so it was quite easy to pull a new wire
through which makes of course for a cleaner installation. I would leave this
for the installer to decide.

RE: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Keep in mind that any Honeywell ads I ever see promote the T9 or T10
thermostats which used to be in the so-called "Honeywell Lyrics" line-up and
the app used to be called "Lyric", but it is now called "Honeywell Home". I
can't say for sure, but it seems to me that the Total Comfort platform is older
and not where Honeywell's focus is.

Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Cris Ali

Thanks Richard. That really helps.

One of the things that makes it  difficult to decide is the fact that I
do not even if the wiring of my heating/cooling system has the Common
wire, usually referred  to as the C wire. So far the only smart
thermostat I found which does not need the C wire is Nest Gen3, also
known as nest learning thermostat. However, I do not know how accessible
the nest app is. Do you have any experience with this app? How
accessible is it?

Cheers,

We have a Honeywell thermostat that uses the Total Connect Comfort
(tcc) app which is completely accessible.

The physical thermostat isn't something I would want to deal with
on my own, but one could mark it to adjust up or down.

So, the real question for me is, is the app they use accessible.
