Re: reading books with phone or glasses

2024-05-24 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
VDScan is a brilliant app for iPhone which I have used to scan entire books! It is very accurate and straightforward to use. I use this Celeste glasses simply for shorter items or the odd page because I can't tell how much of the page has been scanned and stored in the glasses memory and so am stuck there staring at the book in case the glasses run out of scanned text and meet doing another check HarryOn 23 May 2024, at 16:42, dlmlao...@gmail.com wrote:I have the Envision glasses, and though I didn’t get them for this, I would love it if I could sit back and scan books. My first experience gave me very poor quality. I usually use a fast flatbed scanner, and I can continue to do so but would love to use phone or glasses. Has anybody successfully input books with either glasses or phone, and if so, how? My preliminary impression is that Seeing AI Ocr is better than Envision, but again, I haven’t tested a lot.

You cannot lock the phone and have it continue reading. If you want to do that,

Hi Fazil,

Go to reading Now or Library and double-tap the book. Normal VoiceOver commands
work. There’s also a Menu button at the bottom of the screen that gives you
options like Search and Table of Contents.

Best,
Anna

Re: Reading Books with Braille Display on iPhone

2013-10-03 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Ok I have downloaded one of these apps. I thought it could be a good idea for a
braille user, if the words would change themselves, but the problem is that I
can not get the words to change by themselves. There are a lot of these apps,
maybe I should try another one, but I think it would be the same result.

Best regards Annie.

The Kindle and iBooks apps do require a page turn. The problem with most
continuous reading apps is that with things like the native Notes app, it
isn't possible to set bookmarks. in Bard, for example, when first opening a
Braille book, pressing r will put you in the text window at the last
 reading position.

that speed-reading app is a fascinating concept.

For Kindle, iBooks, Kobo, and Nook (Barnes and Noble), the specific app is
your only option because the files are locked to the specific app.
Therefore, in these cases, you have no choice but to learn and work with
the specific quirks of these apps. I know that iBooks and Kindle work with
braille displays, but I do not know if the page will automatically scroll,
or if you will need to perform a dots 1 3 5 space, or dots 2 4 6 space
between pages in order to turn pages. For the sighted, it is necessary to
touch the screen on the righthand side with one finger and slide the
finger across to the lefthand side in order to turn the page forward. This
movement gives the sighted person more of the feeling of reading a book,
 so is preferred.

If the file is an unlocked PDF, unlocked ePub, text, or other standard
file format, there are several options for viewing the file. I do not know
which options provide continuous braille reading as I mainly listen. I
primarily use braille for reviewing / editing.

Interestingly, there is a speed-reading app in the App Store now that
flashes one word at a time on the display. Sighted people are reporting
reading speeds, with comprehension, of up to 800 words per minute.

It was a general question but I'm thinking, epub, kindle, pdf, or larger
.doc/.txt files. I'm more interested in an app that will allow for easy
scrolling.

2013-10-01 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

I have found an app, that I like very much, it has some lacks, but hopefully
the developer will listen.

It is called chm plus, it can read many formats html, txt, DRM free epub, PDF
etc. Best of all, you can use the search function, although it is a little
strange. I will explain if people wants me, it is a bit strange, how that
works. But I really like the app, and I wish that bookmarks would be fixed, so
we can use them with voiceover, when/if that will happen, we have a good
reading app with braille, as good apple will allow us to have it, I think. You
can read continuously in this app, it is the best I have found so far.

Is there any way to get the bard app if you are living outside the u.s. It
sounds interesting.

Best regards Annie.

 Richard,

I like kindle better than Ibooks and nook because it doesn't require as many
keystrokes. you just do the press to go to the next page and the text
immediately appears. with nook and Ibooks, since there are buttons on the
book screen, it's more clunky. also, I like the Read2Go app for reading
books. that one is very smooth. I haven't tried the BARD app with a braille
 book yet.

Re: reading books on my iphone 4 s

2012-11-04 Thread Chuck Dean
You can download and read Book Share books on your iPhone by using the
Read 2 Go app. $19.99
Heres a link:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/read2go/id425585903?mt=8

Also, you can buy, download, and read books through the iBooks app.
The app is a free download.
Heres a link:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibooks/id364709193?mt=8

Both of these apps are 100% accessible.

NLS does not have a way to read their books in mobile devices at this
time.

 Hello everyone,
I am so new to the iphone, and I ask questions as I go along.  I normally
read my books on my NLs player.  I get my books from bard and bookshare.  Is
their any way to transfer any of these books to my phone for when I go out of
town?  If so, I would need a complete explanation of how to do it.  You may
contact me off list if you like.  That is, if it is even possible to do this.
