RE: instructions for setting up an iPod

2013-07-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Paul,

I don't think it changes anything with respect to how you get music onto the
device. As far as I know you still have to manage them via iTunes and in
some ways maybe even more so than a Touch because I believe you can't
install apps on a Nano and definitely not on a Shuffle. Actually, I think
the Nano allows for some apps, but since it hasn't got the capabilities of a
Touch I don't think you can install just any app. With an iPod Touch at
least you could use Dropbox or apps like PhoneDrive or Tonido (there are
many more out there) which allow you to tramsfer content from a PC to your
device without iTunes.

Now, keep in mind that this is not really like copying stuff like you can
with a Stream or Booksense and personally I don't like any of these apps
except maybe for Dropbox or Skydrive because really you are just syncing
content between your computer and that app rather than using iTunes and most
of these apps require you to install an app on your computer as well.

Sieghard

Hi Paul,

You will have to manage an iPod Touch exactly the same way as an iPhone, it
is basically an iPhone without the phone (and GPS receiver).

So, no you can't put music on it from Amazon Cloudplayer, yes, triple click
Home should work provided you do it first thing after you take it out of the
box and turn it on and as for using iTunes, well, you don't have to use
iTunes ever if you just buy music from the iTunes store, but if you want to
put music on the iPod from your computer then you can only do so via iTunes.
If you have MP3 files from Amazon downloaded to your computer you should be
able to put them on the iPod Touch by first adding them to your iTunes
library (use File menu, Add Folder to Library, then browse to your folder
where the music is stored). Only thing I don't know since I never bought any
music from Amazon is whether the MP3 files are somehow protected, if they
are not then you can transfer them to your iPod Touch no problem.

If you are using Windows 7 and Jaws 14 along with iTunes 11 everything is
very accessible. Jonathan's 2-part Podcast about using iTunes 11 with Jaws
14 which you can find at www.FreedomScientific.com/FSCast is a very good
resource if you want to become more comfortable with iTunes.

Sieghard

Hello, we are looking into purchasing an iPod; are there specific
instructions for setting it up?

Do you have to set it up using iTunes?

Can you move songs to it that are not part of your iTunes library, from
Amazon cloud player or from an amazon MP3 folder on our computer?

Also does it use something similar to the tripple click home button to turn
on voiceover or should this be done in a store?

Thanks.
