You can also airplane games to your Apple TV from your other Apple devices. There is your workaround. Although, you will be using two devices to do this, so I see what you're trying to do. I purchased an MLB monthly subscription through Itunes and couldn't register it on my apple tv since it only allowed me to restore an annual subscription. The monthly subscription is unavailable.
