Re: Automatic update??

2016-09-28 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

If you're getting a new phone, it will be running iOS 10, so updating your
current phone is a good idea anyway. I would think there would be less chance
of something going wrong when your backup is made from a phone running the same
operating system as the phone you are restoring the backup onto.

Best,
Anna

Actually, what might have happened is when you get the software update and
choose to do it later, the selection is actually to download overnight.
Sometimes, you don’t realize that is the actual button and you double tap it. I

RE: Automatic update??

2016-09-28 Thread Jim Portillo
I guess that’s what happened. I thought I had no choice but to agree to the
terms, even when I chose to install it Later. It must have downloaded anyway.

Anyway, no harm, but it did surprise me.

I’m getting an iPhone 7 today, which I know will come with IOS 10 anyway, so I
guess I’m getting a sneak preview with this installation on my 6.

Hi Jim,

iOS does not upgrade itself unless you download the update and agree twice
separately to the terms and conditions. Once that is done then yes, iOS may
install at a later point without intervention. Anyhow, sounds like it's done,
but the good news is that there aren't any major bugs in iOS 10 which weren't
also in iOS 9 and there are some new features especially the ability to move
apps which are very nice.

Sieghard

Subject: Automatic update??

The weirdest thing happened last night. I’d left my iPhone 6, still running
version 9, charging while I was in a different room. After a while, I came to
my room, where the phone was charging and found that it had automatically
updated to IOS 10. I must have somehow downloaded the update, but I personally
didn’t install it. I just figured I’d wait till I upgraded phones. Has anyone
else had this happen to you?

Anyway, it updated, and I had no choice but to finalize things, going through
the upgrade and setup.
So far, I’ve just been using basic features the way I normally do, but I know
I’m going to run into things and questions.
For instance, every time I hear an icon spoken, I hear the iPhone say something
like SLNC800. What does that mean?
I also see there are more actions to choose from. Interesting.

Re: Automatic update and why Apple needs to take more steps

2015-02-06 Thread Wayne Merritt
There is an easy way to fix the autoupdating issue: turn off automatic
updates in settings/iTunes and App Store or perhaps in General. Also,
when you see an app update, double tap the name of the app and then
swipe right to read the information of what was included. You
apparently did this since you read the message about not updating the
Urban Spoon app. In general, just because you get an app update, don't
assume that it's fine and update it. I agree in part that it should be
easier to roll back to a prior version, but I'm not sure that
demanding that Apple do something about the issue is a good way to
approach it.

I just checked my updates in the App Store. One of the apps I have is urban

spoon. There is an update. Next to the update it says don't update to this
we have found a serious problem. Or words to that effect.this has nothing to

do with excess ability. Is just a problem that they found with the app after

it was released. I have seen this with other apps in the past. And then, of

course, there are the apps which went updated, result in excess ability
 loser time.
It seems to me that Apple needs to make it easier for us to go back to the
previous version, without relying on iTunes backups on our computers. They
have made it easy, and indeed they encourage, The use of over the air
update. That only works as long as the update works as well or better than
the application it was replacing. There are enough examples where that is
simply not true. So it is time for Apple to give us more power and make it
possible for us to regress to a previous version without resorting to the
complicated nonsense of iTunes backup on our computers. This is especially
true, given the inaccessibility of the latest iTunes for Windows. Lucky for

me, I have a Mac, so I don't have to deal with that. But there certainly
have been times when iTunes for mac was problematic. So, come on Apple. Let

us have more freedom to control our devices as we see fit and as may indeed

 prove necessary.
