Re: I have tried the hand writing feature on iOS 7

2013-09-21 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi thom,

use a two-finger swipe up or down to go through the list of apps which comes up
in handwriting mode.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful weekend!

Smiles,

Cara :)

I would think that flicking would be interpreted as trying to write.

RE: I have tried the hand writing feature on iOS 7

2013-09-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
A 3-finger swipe right goes to the next line, a 2-finger swipe right inserts
a space, a 2-finger swipe left deletes the previous character, a 3-finger
swipe up or down changes between lower case, upper case, numbers and
punctuation.

 Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for that blast from the past!

I can't remember his geeky nephew's name, (was it his nephew?) but I'd
love to see updated skits with iDevices and new tech! lol!

Anyway, I just thought that lil' tidbit might be helpful to some as

Hi Rick,

How to you move between the search results if you use handwriting to find an
app? For example, if I write an s and then a c Voiceover says there are
2 results and it mentions Scansnap which is an app I have for my Fujitsu

I personally like the handwriting feature. Although I would not use it for
email or text, I think it's fantastic when used on a home screen to find an
app anywhere on your phone. You can use Spotlite of course, but I actually
think the handwriting method is way faster. Great feature IMHO.

As a general Note, there have been a couple of great posts regarding
instructional material for the proper use of these features, so let's please
have an open mind until you read authoritative information on proper use.
For example, I believe one can delete a letter by using a 2-finger swipe to
the left. A large percentage of the posts you will read for today and in the
next few days will be from those who are for the most part playing around
with the features and not from individuals who have sat down and read a user

Hi all,
I've tried the handwriting feature. It's no big deal. First off it only
works with printed, lowercase letters. It does not work with cursive.
Secondly it has great difficulty discerning between things like the I and
the letter L. And thirdly you have to use the rotor to go someplace else in
order to delete letters. Personally I was looking forward to it but I don't
see any use for it at all.

As a quick additional note, you can also use the two-finger swipe up or down
even before you enter your first handwritten character. This will move you
through all of your apps on your device.

Just sending this one along for completeness. :)

Thanks,

Hey Sieghard and Kara,
Thanks for the tip.
You can also draw the first letter and it will shorten the list, right?
Then once you do this, how do you go through this list? Do you have to come
off of handwriting mode first?
I would think that flicking would be interpreted as trying to write.

Thanks in advance,

You can also draw the first letter and it will shorten the list, right?
Then once you do this, how do you go through this list? Do you have to come
 off of handwriting mode first?
I would think that flicking would be interpreted as trying to write.

 Thanks in advance,
 Thom

 Hi Sieghard,

Totally know / love the Red Green show! lol! :)

Thanks for that blast from the past!

I can't remember his geeky nephew's name, (was it his nephew?) but I'd
love to see updated skits with iDevices and new tech! lol!

Anyway, I just thought that lil' tidbit might be helpful to some as
 another
way of searching through their apps without needing to turn pages.

Talk soon and have a great day!

 Smiles,

 Cara :)

 Hi Cara,

That's is a good observation, if I turn the rotor to handwriting and do a
2-finger swipe down without having drawn a letter it starts moving me
through my apps in alphabetical order which would be the same way the
 apps
appear in the list view in iTunes.

Not sure if knowing this will come in handy, but it's interesting and, as
Red Green used to point out, If the women don't find you handsome, at
 least
they should find you handy *smile*
Of course most of you Americans probably don't know who Red Green is
although when I asked SIRI to Search Wikipedia for Red Green Mrs. SIRI's
new husband, Mr. SIRI, told me the Red Green Show also aired on some US
 networks *smile*.

Re: I have tried the hand writing feature on iOS 7

2013-09-19 Thread Wayne Merritt
Though I haven't used the new hand writing feature yet since I haven't
yet updated, I don't think that I will use it exclusively if I have to
write a lot of text. Fleksy and touch typing will still have prominant
places in my daily activity. However, I can see how the hand writing
feature can come in handy for loading apps from the home screen,
jumping to an element type in Safari and then moving by that element,
and so forth. To each their own though.

Wayne

I think I remember reading in the iPhone Life app that they had announced it

Hi all,
I've tried the handwriting feature. It's no big deal. First off it only
works with printed, lowercase letters. It does not work with cursive.
Secondly it has great difficulty discerning between things like the I and
the letter L. And thirdly you have to use the rotor to go someplace else
in order to delete letters. Personally I was looking forward to it but I
don't see any use for it at all.

2013-09-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You have to add it to your roter to activate it. Go into the usual
place, i.e. Settings - General - Accessibility - VoiceOver On -
roter and make sure hand writing is selected. It's at the bottom of the
list. Now you can activate it by turning your roter to that option.

You can read more about it at
http://www.fedoraoutlier.com/handwriting-in-ios-7-2/ as well as listen
to it on several podcasts.

I don't see any harm for you to have a go at it, perhaps not inputing password

Of course, for those who know how to hand print, you will get more accurate as
you practice.
I like the fact that now i can insert my 4 digit password using hand writing

I think, in no way hand writing is replacing the keyboard, but it is another

For me personally, i see it as a good way for me to keep my hand writing up to

Hi, the hand writing feature is another way for you to write, instead of
using the onboard keyboard, some other apps, or external keyboard.
I don't see any harm for you to have a go at it, perhaps not inputing
password if you are not sure. no harm to just have a play.
Of course, for those who know how to hand print, you will get more accurate
as you practice.
I like the fact that now i can insert my 4 digit password using hand writing
instead of typing.
I think, in no way hand writing is replacing the keyboard, but it is another
option for those who wants to use it.
For me personally, i see it as a good way for me to keep my hand writing up

Secondly it has great difficulty discerning between things like the I and

To get the handwriting option to appear on things like the home screen,
I went into Settings - General - Accessibility - VoiceOver ON -
Roter and added it to my roter. It was at the bottom. Note I had to do

Also I really like this feature. It didn't take me but a few seconds

It's also nice when entering your pass code. the numbers don't get echoed,
so that'll be handy for anyone worried about anyone overhearing their pass
 code.

For example, I believe one can delete a letter by using a 2-finger

 Hi all,
I've tried the handwriting feature. It's no big deal. First off it
only works with printed, lowercase letters. It does not work with
 cursive.
Secondly it has great difficulty discerning between things like the I
and the letter L. And thirdly you have to use the rotor to go
someplace else in order to delete letters. Personally I was looking
forward to it but I don't see any use for it at all.

A couple of things. To do punctuation flip 3 fingers up. Just curious what
is a tick?
Also I really like this feature. It didn't take me but a few seconds to get
the hang of it. It may even become faster than using a keyboard over time. A
stylus may also help if I can get one.

According to an article posted earlier on this list, You're able to switch
between writing modes by doing either a three-finger flick up/down. That should
toggle between uppercase, lower case, numbers, and I think there's another

is also a gesture to delete characters or words, but I'm not sure about that.

2013-09-18 Thread Alan Paganelli
I tried it as well. I had difficulty getting it to recognize the letter R,
and f. Of course all it means is I need to play with it more. As I said, I
did not notice any lag or slow-down wile using my iPhone.

All the tones I made with Todd Burnhart's ring tone maker as well as all the
default ring tones from my iPhone4 were retained plus a bunch of new tones
were added. Just trying them out and not really playing with them more then
just to sample them rather then to let them play out, they sounded
futuristic. No new sound effect tones like perhaps Big Ben or a NASA
launch. On the face of it, I like it. I was hoping for some new voice over
voices. Oh well, it won't be fore long. I just want to learn my way around
before I get my 5s.

Okay, I have gone back and try this again. A three finger swipe up will give
you the choice of lowercase letters, uppercase letters, punctuation, and
numbers.

A two fingers swiped right will give you a space, and a two finger swipe left
is like the backspace key.
I still think it is pretty slow, I think I'll stick with Fleksy.

Secondly it has great difficulty discerning between things like the I and
the letter L. And thirdly you have to use the rotor to go someplace else in
order to delete letters. Personally I was looking forward to it but I don't
see any use for it at all.

Re: I have tried the hand writing feature on iOS 7

2013-09-18 Thread Arianna
I'm glad they kept all of the default ring tones rather than just replacing
them with new ones. Although I actually don't use too many of the default
tones. I added the tones with the ones from my Nokia N75. Well, not
specifically from my N75, but you get the point.

Thanks,
Ari

All the tones I made with Todd Burnhart's ring tone maker as well as all the
default ring tones from my iPhone4 were retained plus a bunch of new tones
were added. Just trying them out and not really playing with them more then
just to sample them rather then to let them play out, they sounded
futuristic. No new sound effect tones like perhaps Big Ben or a NASA launch.
On the face of it, I like it. I was hoping for some new voice over voices.
Oh well, it won't be fore long. I just want to learn my way around before I
 get my 5s.

2013-09-18 Thread AppleGourmet
Does anyone know if there is a comprehensive manual with all of the new
features? I think that would go along way in answering all our questions
without having to read endless email :-)
