Solved: RE: On-screen keyboard disappears or fails to appear

2021-10-17 Thread Richard Turner
When I got home yesterday, and continued to have the mysterious problem of my
phone seeming to think it was connected to an external keyboard, I triple
checked that my Bluetooth keyboard was not on, then turned it on and it worked
fine with the phone, turned it off, but the onscreen keyboard still would not
appear and I would hear the tones like I was toggling QuickNav.
So, I went into the Bluetooth settings and deleted the keyboard.
Then, the onscreen keyboard worked like it always had worked.

I then paired my Bluetooth keyboard again, and all is working well.
If the keyboard is connected, it takes over, if it is not connected, the
onscreen keyboard works perfectly.

I think right before we left for a few days I had tried to use the hide/show
the onscreen keyboard command that someone had given for keyboards without a
designated key. I think it scrambled the brains of the Bluetooth connection
and made the phone think the keyboard was connected when it was not.

I will stick with simply switching off the keyboard when I want to use the
onscreen keyboard.

I know this can happen when the keyboard is in bluetooth range ... however both
my braille display and my keyboard are 90 miles away right now.

Hi Richard,

Do you sometimes use a braille display? If so, connect it and bring up an edit
field. Then on the display, press Space with 146 (the SH symbol for Show/Hide).
This should reveal the keyboard. Then turn off the display. the keyboard should
remain.

I also suggest going into VoiceOver Settings, choosing Braille, and setting it
to always show the onscreen keyboard.

2021-10-15 Thread Richard Turner
Well, It is kind of working again for some reason.
But, I already have the braille display setting to show onscreen keyboard; but
I'm away from home and did not bring it with me.
But, like I say; it is working right now, though it still plays the sound like
QuickNav is involved.
very strange.
