RE: Sirius and XM radio apps

2013-01-07 Thread Jessica Diaz
Hi

I just signed up for xm yesterday and I got the strictly internet package. It
told me nowhere that I had to have a radio.

This was apparently a recent policy change and i think they will lose money on
it; there are a lot of people who aren't going to buy a radio when all they
want to do is use the app.

Hi Jim. Personally, I wouldn't listen to Sirius XM on an iPhone because
of several reasons. Firstly, as others have said, the app is almost
unusable. Sure, you can navigate to a station, but when you're in the
player, Voiceover doesn't work. Secondly, I certainly wouldn't
unsubscribe your radio receiver because if you want to listen to it
longer than 90 minutes, you'll need to be constantly at your iPhone to
start it up again because it times out every 90 minutes. That was my
biggest turn-off with the app and I like to sleep with the radio on and
when I had the app, it would always kick me off after 90 minutes. So
yeah, you're better off with your radio receiver.

If you want to listen to Sirius/XM on your phone, I highly recommend musicdock
as it is very accessible where as the Sirius/XM app,in my opinion, is not
accessible. With musicdock, you will need an online subscription to Sirius/XM.

RE: Sirius and XM radio apps

2012-12-28 Thread Joe
There are slightly different channels for the satellite radio than there are
for the Internet account. It's an interesting policy change if it's true,
because I took advantage of the free annual access promotion that went on a
month or so ago. That particular account is linked to Internet and not to any
receiver.

RE: Sirius and XM radio apps

2012-12-28 Thread Joe
What radio receivers are accessible? I thought that outside of the car
units, we were almost out of luck. I say, almost, because I know there are
supposed to be some workable models out there, but I've never gotten a
definitive answer on which ones these were.

Hi Jim. Personally, I wouldn't listen to Sirius XM on an iPhone because of
several reasons. Firstly, as others have said, the app is almost unusable.
Sure, you can navigate to a station, but when you're in the player,
Voiceover doesn't work. Secondly, I certainly wouldn't unsubscribe your
radio receiver because if you want to listen to it longer than 90 minutes,
you'll need to be constantly at your iPhone to start it up again because it
times out every 90 minutes. That was my biggest turn-off with the app and I
like to sleep with the radio on and when I had the app, it would always kick
me off after 90 minutes. So yeah, you're better off with your radio
receiver.

Re: Sirius and XM radio apps

It's because they get a cut of the profit from the sale of the radios. i
know that they used to have a plan for the PC. It was cheap, but you didn't
get a lot of the channels, i. e. the streams of sporting events.

Hi Jim. Personally, I wouldn't listen to Sirius XM on an iPhone because of
several reasons. Firstly, as others have said, the app is almost unusable..
So
yeah, you're better off with your radio receiver.

Re: Sirius and XM radio apps

2012-12-28 Thread BBS
Hi. Ok, maybe I was overexaggerating about how the app was
inaccessible. Yes, the app may need some improvements, and like I said,
the 90 minute timeout is annoying, but I guess it can be usable.
Debbie, I did try Music Dock when I had an online subscription but it
wouldn't log me in with my user information. That's because, and I
found this out from the Mac list, Sirius XM has blocked other apps from
using their services outside the US so that's why I couldn't use it
because I'm from Canada. Also, yes it's true that you can't subscribe
for online use without a receiver. Also, if you don't have at least a
reloadable pre-payed credit card you won't be able to subscribe. I've
been in your shoes before Robert and that's what Sirius Canada told me.

Re: Sirius and XM radio apps

2012-12-27 Thread Brent Harding
Hi there. It wasn't so bad years ago, but now Sirius is about $225 a year. I
think they inconveniently billed me for this next year early. I'm hoping they
still let you cancel and get the refund for the unused months. Maybe I'm stuck
with January, but I remember my cycle used to be the first of the month.

  Hi Jim,

I used to have a Sirius subscription in Canada, but got rid of it a couple of
years ago since in my opinion there are free services out there (e.g.
www.181.fm) which offer at least as good of a choice and satellite radio only
makes sense to me if you are using it in a vehicle. If you want to spend money
and mainly use it at home or on your iPhone via the internet I think services
like Rdio, Spotify etc. make more sense since you can at least listen to
specific artists and albums.

Anyhow, there have been many posts about Sirius and XM on the list, I do
remember from glancing at them that it appears the app is not really that
accessible, but since Sirius and XM are unique enough words you will
probably easily find good information by searching the archives for those
words. I also assume that since the service costs money that the app is free
which means that if you are still subscribe you have nothing to loose by simply
downloading the app and giving it a try.

  Regards,

  Sieghard

   Hi,
with all due respect I beg to differ with the statements that the
app is nearly unusable and that voiceover doesn뭪 work in the
player. I뭭e used it for hours on end this week. While it뭩
true that not all buttons are labeled and there뭩 definitely room
for improvement by no means did I find it unusable at all.
I think it뭩 always best to give an app such as this a play for
one뭩 self as one person뭩 inaccessible is another뭩 a bit quirky
needing improvement but definitely workable.

Just my two cents no one asked for.

I agree with you Robin. I use the app on a regular basis. I do have one
question though. Do you know how to get to the settings from within the app
itself? There are a couple of settings which I want to change, but I can’t
seem to get to the settings area of the app. Any ideas?
